Hi All,
My alfa 147 is starting to pack itself (damn thing is eating up the suspension components for lunch), so am starting to look at buying another motorway horse to lug me around.... Read more
Hi, owned a Peugeot 508RXH (12 plate) since last August. When we bought it, it had done 37K. We have just picked it up from the garage for the 3rd time since purchase. The latest major fault has been established as a failed rear shock absorber. There a couple of queries which I am hoping other people will be able to answer.
1. Is it normal that a rear shock absorber fails after 46k? Is this caused by the weight of the battery pack in the boot? Anyone similar problems?
2. Car is under warranty. Peugeot recommends that both shock absorbers are replaced at the same time. What would anyone else suggest? Unfortunately the warranty will only pay for the one faulty shock absorber to be replaced so we need to fork out for the other one. Will replacing just the faulty one solve the problem?... Read more
Peugeot are totally disinterested and the customer care totally lacking any concept of customer care.
I don't think you mean this. Peugeot cannot be 'disinterested' as it is one of their cars. Your local dealer is most likely 'uninterested', i.e. fobbing you off in some way. There will certainly be an interest in the outcome for them :-(
This could possibly fill the gap vacated by Hyundai when they took the Santa Fe into BMW and Mercedes pricing territory Read more
We have a Rexton but have not been able to drive it recently. The nearest specialist is 25 miles away. The parts have to come from abroad. The diagnostic software is not accessible by the AA so if you breakdown you may well be stuck. Had we known this before we bought the car we would not have done. SsangYong need to have a good, user friendly network of garage support who SsangYong work positively with for customer satisfaction.
Is it because SsangYong are so difficult to work with that there is no dealership in the Bristol area?
As a lifelong worrier, I have naturally been worried about the forthcoming MoT on my Corsa D 1.4SE auto. The brakes have started making a grinding noise once they have warmed up in stop/ start traffic. There looks to be plenty of life in the pads. The discs and pads were replaced by the dealer prior to the MoT in March last year, and I have done 14,000 miles since, mostly a mix of town and motorway driving. I'm not hard on the brakes, but they make a horrible noise once warmed up.
Click the links for photos of the discs, which are not shiny.... Read more
That's a vocational professional at work keeping the brakes cool at all times and utilising auxilliary braking to the max and providing a smooth steady drive, well done, you don't see vehicles being driven like that these days where the new normal is to drive on the brakes, and the results can be seen every day on the road.
Thank you, most kind. Today's drivers would be put off by a six-speed cable change with a splitter gearbox, let alone two auxilliary braking systems. Definitely a 'one man motor' though.
I realise that fashions and tastes change, but recently, I have noticed various newish cars with colour coded door mirrors in a different colour to the car.
This seems to be a latest fad but my initial impression was "They have had the door mirror knocked off and have got a replacement from a scrap yard." Read more
I'm one of them - had both door mirrors vandalised more than once, replacements purchased from Ebay, (have you seen the price of new ones - someone is making a mint, and I won't fund it) presently both are matching different colour from the car ... petrol flap too, yet a 3rd colour!. At least for the passenger door I found a spare the same colour......
(Fog lights comment - these are designed to come on when turning, "corning fog lights" .... I'm surprised it's legal since these are not supposed to be used except in fog)...
Hello wise sages !
I had to replace the battery in the wifes car today as the old one was dead and it just "clicked" when i tried to start it.... Read more
I've just had a very quick look on Ebay and you can get a Keycode for a Ford Radio "V" serial number for as little as £1.25! Most sellers are probably OK, just check their Feedback before doing a deal. It's really not a great deal to risk, anyway, is it?
Edit....This one's even cheaper, 99p!...

Thanks i'll check it out.
Hi, this is my first post as I'm new to this forum, and in fact new to buying cars! I hope it's ok to ask for a little advice... basically, should we be worried about a few small 'warning signs' below?
My wife and I narrowed down our options to a Toyota Avensis, we hired a car and viewed a few yesterday. I don't drive (eyesight), she was previously driving abroad and now has a UK licence. Without any mechanical knowledge between us I'm mostly going on impressions of the seller and car. I'm planning to get RAC inspections done on the best two, but that costs over £300 for two and takes nearly a week.... Read more
they even managed to source the tyres elsewhere and fitted them,I'd be very suspicious and suspect they'd either fitted Chinese ditch-finders or wheels off another car. I suggest you look very closely at the wheels and tyres.
Wouldn't be worth their while or reputation for a Toyota main dealer to switch wheels. I doubt the tyres are a premium brand though.
Asked my neighbours to clean up after their dogs as i was sick of doing it. They both got aggressive so I called the police.
When the police came round they stated he has accused me of dangerous driving, has footage but won't be pressing charges!... Read more
My eldest is a police officer and has given me some insight into this case. Domestic disputes are the bane of their lives and use precious resources on situations that cannot be solved. The police will not put very much into this unless violence or thretening behaviour is used. Legally their is hardly any evidence, apart from heresay to mount any sort of case. However, interestingly the dog fouling could be an issue the local authority environmental health department would pursue. If you could provide photographic evidence of this they could well issue an enforcement order on your neighbour. Private land is not exempt if members of the public have ready legal access to it. i.e rights of way, rights of access, shared use driveways etc. This may be something to keep up your sleeve if the mediation fails to produce results. Cheers Concrete
I bought the car at the beginning of the week and I'm trying to fix the known faults. Can anybody advise me where the fuse is located on this? It may not be the fuse but as a place to start it seems obvious. I know its not in the below dash, in the cabin or the engine. So were could it be hiding and also the relay if there is one in the circuit?. Failing not finding them to be at fault, how does the switch come out.. Any help would be appreciated.

Trouble is that there seems to be a lack of precise info on this aspect i.e. where is the fuse located? is there relay in the circuit & if so where etc, etc?
Lexus IS is a good choice but go petrol, not diesel. If you can't afford the fuel of the petrol buy something else.
The IS diesel isn't all that nice to drive IMO and the 2.2 has a reputation for eating headgaskets....
