Hello all, I was hoping for some advice/opinion on what could be the issue with my Meriva '04 Semi-Auto Easytronic as it's been giving me a lot of trouble recently.
The problems started early one morning a week or so back when it was freezing. I left work at 5am to go home, when I tried to start my car it wouldn't turn over at all. Power was going to the car via the battery but the engine was competly dead and not a sound was coming from it except a clicking sound as if the starter was failing every other attempt or so. I also heard a clicking sound from the passenger side. I though it might be down to the cold weather so I left it alone after a couple more attempts. I had to remove the key and reinsert several times and to get it to finally start which it did. At the time I wasn't paying attention to the dash so I'm not sure if the F or engine light came up but it got me home perfectly fine and I even drove around for a few days after that with no issue. I though perhaps this car dosen't like the cold/damp and left it at that.... Read more
Pedal test is unreliable on these as you've found out.
Only trust Vaux tech II or similar,...
So after 97,000 miles and 4 years I've parted company with my lovely DS5. For all those who have issues with French cars you might be interested to know that nothing went wrong - not even a blown bulb. 4 pairs of front tyres, 3 rear, 1 set of front pads and discs, 4 services, apart from screen wash no fluids ever dropped in level let alone needed topping up.
So today was my 1st 196 mile round trip commute (although I only do this journey once or twice a week) in my partial replacement. So what have I learnt? Keyless, EPB's, ambient lighting and cruise control - only when they've gone do you realise how good they are! New stuff, DAB radio is fantastic as is filling up with petrol again! ... Read more
Stang and Aygo... good combination in my eyes. Just don't overpay for the big Ford though, supply is likely to outstrip demand in the long run, especially after the disastrous two star ncap result. Cars ordered after May are said to be an updated design with improved safety features so older cars will see residuals dented. www.euroncap.com/en/results/ford/mustang/26063
Am I alone with this problem, when reading the forum on my iPhone if I tap onto some headings, usually those with a single name as the title, the app quits and I have to restart. Anyone got any idea how to prevent this? Read more
Nothing to do with hardware, it happens on my wife's iPad Air and my new iPhone 7
Was driving along the other night and saw a nissan in the middle lane of the motorway with a wheel sideways and dragging at the back. My eyes nearly popped out my head till i figured it must be the spare wheel hanging off. It had somehow wedged itself between left side of rear bumper and the road. The driver seemed oblivious. Not wanting to put them in a rage (which might make them accelerate) I tried to get alongside, but then what do you do? I overtook and flashed my hazards infront of them in intervals whilst gradually slowing down but they took no notice. All I could then do was make sure I wasnt behind it when it eventually gives way.
How do you go about warning other motorists in this situation? It's so hard not to look like you're having a go at them. Read more
Qashqai's spare is not under the car, if they have one its in the boot.
Got a question about this round about and need someone knowledgeable with the rules to help.... Read more
Hello,
I currently PCP a 2015 polo GTI, which is approaching the 2 year mark in March. ... Read more
Your Polo GTI has done remarkably well (assuming it's a 3-year PCP) to have only £300 negative equity after less than 2 years: clearly a good choice in the first place. You could have a bit of positive equity in it nearer the end of the contract, but bearing in mind what SLO76 says (and he's in the car business), there probably won't be much in it.
The Octavia vRS will be a good choice, particularly the petrol version: either the hatch or the estate will be far more roomy than your other two choices. New parents are always surprised by how much stuff a baby needs when travelling....
Ok--so most people have their cars SERVICED once a year--but apart from the oil and filter change, top ups, maybe new plugs and an air filter--most of the stuff that's listed is purely a CHECK--as listed in service books. No actual " go for it" servicing carried out at all.
Being a sceptic--I can now easily argue that this (annual?) event is even a "come on in and let us give you a list of expensive items we should be doing providing you pay more" .... Read more
You have it there. I get an oil and filter done when needed and my indie does a safety check. Like you say it's all check check check, the MOT does all the safety bits again so how is mega bucks for a 'service' arrived at?
Between £50 and £100 per hour or part thereof, depending upon the establishment's overhead costs. And if every couple of years or so you want them to do stuff that they ought to do, but don't, e.g. clean and grease brake pipes; chip, scrape and grind rust off brake discs, ensure brake pads can move freely in their mountings, apply rust prevention to incipient areas of corrosion, you will pay a lot more. That's why our cars never have a garage 'service' - I do it myself. And if the oil, coolant and brake fluid don't need changing, I don't change them. That way I expect our cars to last for at least twenty years. And they do....
Hello all, I'm new here on the forum!
I recently got my license and want to buy my first car soon. I am looking for something that is very cheap to buy (probably <£500) and to run. I don't really care about age or mileage (I like old stuff anyway), just for it to be a nice cheap starter with some character. I've gained an interest in the following cars:... Read more
It's all down to condition. I'd sooner take a well cared for Clio over a rough Micra but the wee Fiat is very limited both to drive and with regards to crashworthiness so it's not something I'd buy or recommend but personal choice combined with a tidy car may overrule.
Hello guys. I was recently stopped for making a food delivery from the kebab shop I work in. On the day one of our driver did not turn up on time because his sister had passed away so the boss asked me to quickly make a delivery which was very late and it was a big delivery over 50 quids. As I was about to do the delivery two constables walking by stopped me. I did not lie to them. I told them I work in yeh kebab shop half a mile away and boss asked me to make a quick delivery. He contacted somebody over the phone and they told him to seize my car. Now I am probably looking at 6 points and 300 pound fine. I need some advice please. Should I take yeh case to court and get letter from my work place that I work inside and also I only work there 3 days a week. Part time. Thanks. Read more
Exactly. It would not be unheard of for the UK to “gold plate” a European Directive when subsuming it into UK law. However, the number of successful prosecutions for No Insurance in these circumstances would seem to indicate that they have not. The offence is driving without the necessary insurance cover required under S143. As I tried to explain, if an exclusion clause was declared void by virtue of the Directive then the policy would be valid. Not only would cover be provided but no prosecution for No Insurance would succeed. There’s no halfway house; you cannot have cover by virtue of the void clause but then be prosecuted for having No Insurance. Such a situation would be absurd.
Problem with euro dashboards /electrics = the Euro health wealth and safety biodegradable lead free non violent laws on the solder used theis has a high alloy content they dont like lead as such so you end up with premature dry jointing you can see this if you get a piece of euro solder and a piece of old school lead solder the Euro one is a lot stiffer but dry joints are a common feature on french cars /electrics lucky for me my Renault main dash still works but most of the illuminated switches have gone out, so at night i have to find them with brail not the best !
