I have lost faith as this new car with only 3660 miles has failed me 4 times without any warning as driving in traffic - once approaching a roundabout and twice whilst overtaking. It doesn't restart for some minutes causing me great anxiety as the the traffic jams grow. No faults show up on the cars computer listings. So far Peugeot have carried out an ECU and gearbox update and next are to fit a new petrol pump. I have been without the car for 7 days which include an aborted trip to Calais and the courtesy car they tell me does not cover me in France. Feeling very frustrated as have no faith in my car. Any advice please very welcome. Perhaps the petrol pump will resolve it but what if not as my first year under warranty expires on January 29th. I have written saying I will not take it back again if no improvement. Read more

Above car when cold has an engine shudder at idle and causes the engine revs dial to flutter but never looks like cutting out. It also feels like the engine is kicking on an engine mount as you can feel the little jolt whilst sitting in the car. Seems fine when warm and car drives perfectly. I should also say this is an Automatic and this shudder happens when sitting at traffic lights in Drive (D).

Appreciate any thoughts or things to check.... Read more

Thanks for reply. I own the car two years and I never changed the fluid. Car has 117,000 KM so may be due - not sure of the interval. My auto box is 4 speed.

Hi

I live in central London and am gearing up to sell my Volvo V40 D2 SE Nav 62 plate with a variety of option packs (Nav/Winter Illumination/Sports) in the next 3 months - I've recently ordered a company car more suited to London (Mini Auto). There is a small scratch on the front wing and I've kerbed 2 wheels. It has a full Volvo history and has done 55k miles (or will have by the time I sell) but is otherwise flawless.... Read more

Print out an honest description of the car and a realistic price and tape it onto the back window with your phone number. Costs nothing and it has worked for me a couple of times. You can't be in a rush this way. It could take several weeks and you can't tell a potential buyer that you want to keep it for another week till your new car gets delivered. If you can put up with those inconveniences this method can work well. Not recommended for ladies to do unless they have a man with them when the potential buyer comes round. It is sad the world is like this but that is the way it is.

London has the LEZ- low emmisions zone -and keeps going over the limit, but also keep being affected by polution from abroad, this makes you wonder what the point is of having limits that are not in our control

which is happening a lot? according to this...... Read more

It might be true (I don't know) that the energy equivalent to refine a gallon of petrol would take an electric car that distance, but refineries don't take their primary energy input from electricity. So the requirements of electric cars are all new load and do not replace any demand on generation and transmission.

Going off at a bit of a tangent. If your tyre gets punctured by a nail close to the sidewall and you then fill the tyre with the manufacturers sealant and drive off. What would be the reaction of your insurers / police if you then lost control shortly after due to an under inflated tyre?

I would guess they would be within their rights to say the car was being driven in an unroadworthy condition....

What sort of real life mpg figure have you been getting?

The M25 was closed in part of Essex today due to a lorry fire (luckily for me, I didn't need to use that section, as I came off at J2 for the A2 just before the tunnel).

The reports on the radio were talking about a "lorry fire". It seems to me that this is a fairly regular occurance, and it always seems to be lorries: never cars or vans.... Read more

the premiums would make it more worthwhile to make sure such incidents never took place!

How will that work then? Fires will always happen and insurance will not stop it.

Well folks, some very sad news indeed. My trusty old Skoda is on the verge of going to the great motorway in the sky!!

Apparently a convenience module has failed and the brake lights no longer work, plus it has caused other niggly faults such as sticking locks etc. A new module is about £700 plus fitting, so it's goodnight Vienna! I have ordered a new car but delivery is not until March so I have time to think about how to give it the best possible ending.... Read more

The car was serviced by a Skoda dealer up until 2013, after that I used a VW specialist indie, then an indie when I moved to Kent who seemed familiar with VAG vehicles. The area in question around the battery compartment was drained only last year when a new battery was fitted. But there was water there when examined last week. The only electronic module affected is the 'convenience module', everything else on the vehicle works fine. I am sure an enthusiast could fix it cheaply, but I no longer wish to because I now want a more reliable form of transport for towing. I used to ask the dealer at service time to examine the panel in question and check for water ingress, this must have been done up until 2013. Also I garaged the car every night when I was home and lived in North Yorkshire. In Kent it sits on the drive. No mention of a design fix was ever made or offered. As far as I am concerned this module is the only fault and a good vehicle awaits someone who is prepared to put a bit of time and effort in for cheap motoring. I suppose it is all academic now because come hell or high water I will dispose of the car before the new one arrives.
