VW are currently promoting £3250 list price cuts across the Golf model range on their website, including through the new car configurator.
Thanks Skidpan. Fair enough - I beg their pardon.
I have read much archived comment and advice concerning the ingress of water into the passenger footwell. I have suffered this problem, seriously twice , since December. Initially I checked the pollen filter cover which seemed o.k so I assumed it was a result of being obliged to drive through deepish water and so I dried the area with copious numbers of "Daily Telegraph" thinking all was well. The recent snow proved me wrong for once again the footwell was saturated and I could see water drippng from behind the facia. I once again removed the pollen filter to discover the drain facility, a rectangular section channel from the drain holes secured to the underneath of the cover, had come adrift. This obviously allowed draining water to drop immediately into the car. This channel is secured to the cover at manufacture by either thermo-plastic welding or some adhesive. I cleaned and dried the surfaces the secured the channel in place with Superglue. I am hoping for the best.
Hi
Just looking for some advice on changing fuel filter on above car. It is in behind battery and ecu. Do you need to remove the air filter box, battery and ecu to get access. Appreciate any help.
Thanks

To keep the valuable 7 year warranty on a Kia intact any maintenance should be carried out either by a Kia garage or a VAT registered garage who will use genuine Kia parts.
DIY will result in loosing the warranty on at least the part of the car worked on should there, in this case, be an engine related issue resulting from the filter change....
Hi all, any advice is greatly appreciated please.
Our 2008 cmax 1.8 zetec petrol with duratorq engine has had to have a new alternator and battery along with an alternator belt. The car came back fine (6 years of owning and no other problens). Within 24 hours the car was in limp mode with engine management lights on and warning lights.
The garage took it back and put it on the diagnostics we had 12 faults, they repeated the test 3 further times with only the accelerate pedal position sensor coming in every time. This was all deleted, the car came back and then we couldn't start it at all, it was dead with no sign of choking into life. I left it for 10 minutes, it started went into limp mode again. Upon starting the car next time there was nothing on at all.
Now the engine light is on constantly and it's not started several times but then when it does it drives perfectly.
The garage have run final dignostics still free thank god and they have found the following.
Eml light on limit speed
5 ECU faults
P2121 accelerate pedal sensor
P1260 immobiliser malfunction
P0571 brake switch malfunction
P0231 electric fuel pump open circuit
U1900 can bus data malfunction
the others were not listed.
There was nothing wrong with the car prior to the alternator change. Has anyone any ideas what's wrong, the garage are advising getting rid of it ASAP but I love my Betty Car and don't want a new car. Any help please ?. Thanks Han Read more
Hi, Your problem will be a faulty cluster ie the dashboard. The solder joints dry up on the connectors and cause many errors. The cluster is the centre of the canbus system so any faults here will send the system loopy. The cluster needs to be sent away for repair. This isn't an expensive repair.
Hi, hopefully someone can help.
I'm looking at buying a second hand SUV (£23k limit) and have two cars in mind, being the Santa Fe and the X-Trail. My preference from a shape perspective is the Santa Fe, which also appears (on paper) to have the stronger engine, although the X-Trail seems to offer better value for money (equipment and MPG).
I'll be averaging around 10,000 miles per year and will generally be transporting four passengers, but need the ability to carry luggage as we drive to Switzerland every year on Holidays.
I'd welcome the thoughts of people on this site, do you have any real world experiences of either / both cars that you could share and I'd particularly interested in how those with the X-Trail find the performance under full load.
Thanks in advance. Read more
Thanks, I did look at the Kia and the 7 year warranty is appealing however at the price range and the age / mileage I was looking at the only models I could find were a step down again in terms of equipment.
The government has got this wrong every time. First we all had to go to diesels, then petrol, then electric. Meanwhile in my working life we do more travelling to stupid meetings than we ever did. My brother-in-law works for the Environment Agency. They're never happier than when they shoot off to international conferences on global warming. Thousands of envirinmental "experts" not putting their money where their mouth is. Whatever happened to video conferences. The government is deeply hypocritical. They just want more money from us. If they can do it by divide and rule, all the better. Read more
Would is not be better to now take road tax on all these cheating cars that have got away scott free while some of us are having to pay the increase each year.
This then might make people think about having a large car for short journeys.
Too easy for the govenment to go back and rethink about the emissions sandal if only they knew how many Taxi's are removing the DPF filter. Maybe these should be pulled up in a spot check
Iv been driving automatics for decades so had my share of problems but learned early that the fuid does not last for ever ,a lot of people seem to think it does ,
As far back as the 60s a service did not include changing the fluid and these days its still not part of the service as units are either sealed for life or as the manufactures say, or in the case of renault when it breaks and we fit another unit it will have fresh fluid ,... Read more

Looking around car dealers I've noticed quite a few put thirty day warranties with option to purchase a third party warranty. I am aware of legal obligations on dealers and am dubious about this practice.
Am I right to ignore such dealers, or could I miss a good buy ? Coulsd some just be unaware ? Wouldn't really fancy the hassle of trying to enforce regulations on a 'dodgy dealer' Opinions welcomed. Read more
I recently purchased a nearly new Guilietta, agreed a price with the dealer who also quoted me for finance. On the day of collection I turned up with my own bankers draft to pay having sorted out my own bank loan. He was most annoyed and refused to take it until I pointed out the they never told me the price depended on taking finance with them. Saved me £45 per month for the same amount. Also loan is not tied to car so I can swap and change without penalties. Turned out the Guilietta was a bag of s*** and swapped back to a Leon. An expensive mistake!A trick I regularly suggest to people is to allow the dealer to quote a nice juicy (for him) finance deal when negotiating even if you plan to pay in cash or have finance already in place. If they believe a nice finance commission is coming their way they'll be more inclined to be generous with discounts. It was always one of the first questions my manager asked when I was asking for approval on a deal. They cannot force you to pay in a way that doesn't suit you so any deal agreed is not legally dependent on you taking their finance unless it's a cash back deal of some sort but even at that you can simply pay it off after hoovering the cash.
A friend has just realised he had forgotten his MOT, due sept 2016 and taken it to be mot'd today.
He was amazed not to have been stopped/fined as he lives near watford and M1/M25/ and routes to eye in suffolk frequently.... Read more

+1 for MIG welder
ps Cheapo option is gas-less.
£4 for 0.9mm gassless 0.5kg roll of welding wire.
I've just done some body repairs 1.5mm by tack welding and cooling.
Previously, I've welded a hole in a Catalytic converter, which would've been a MOT fail .
Off Topic,
Yesterday, I was welding a generator frame..
the generator was cheap because the frame was tatty.
(Honda E3200 for £80 - 1900watts,
ps this will run the welder on some settings - I didn't try them all
and a 1.5hp air compressor)
MIG welders are easy to use and it is cheap for the wire...

ps I've got a Clarke 151EN, for £70 from cash converters..
