Put the reg' no' into We Buy Any Car website. This will give you a guaranteed purchase price. In my experience this is also a fairly accurate trade price. Up to you how much you offer your friend over that - you both win.

Wouldn't have thought Renault and Fiat woul be too worried as between them they only sell the Fiat 500 in the US. But maybe under the Chrysler Jeep badge they may have a problem What a great source of income for the US authorities and in particular their lawyers.

FCA, as Fiat-Chrysler is now known, fit the VM 3.0 V6 diesel in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and RAM 1500 truck - 104,000 affected vehicles in the USA.

It won't affect FCA, but the Opel/Vauxhall diesels used by Chevrolet in the USA are derived from the Fiat JTD as a carry-over from the now dissolved GM-Fiat Powertrain Alliance....

I have been asked for advice and my opinion!. A friend is currently driving a 2014 Polo, bought on PCP -due to come up this spring. He is not absolutely sure whether to trade in, upgrade & renew his PCP or simply to pay off and fully own, but at the moment is likely to go for the former. He is happy with VW and his current car, but would feel more secure with a newer model. He is not totally in love with Polo, but the Golf is too big and the UP is too small for him -thus another Polo probably calls?

What negotiating tricks can he employ to ensure he gets the best deal? in 2014 he got free insurance for a full year, a couple of free services and a very good trade in ( £1500!) for an old Rover that's book price was only around £600. Wow!... Read more

Hi, bearing in mind this is what I do day in day out hopefully I can provide some qualified advice.

With the Polo on PCP a key thing to do is determine market value of the Polo. If it is greater than the outstanding or gmfv then it may be worthwhile selling it, pocket the equity once finance paid off and then make approaches as a buyer with a cash lump.

If your friend always wants a new car (I.e. Had no intention of keeping a car long term it may be worth considering contract hire deals moving forwards. There are often silly deals on contract hire if you look around or use a broker who knows what they're talking about.

If your friend is fixed however on PCP I would definitely recommend he investigates selling his car to get max return (unless gmfv is greater than market value which is unlikely), pay off the finance and have equity to put into his next deal.

Re negotiation tips, perhaps wait until late Feb for a stock 66 plate deal.

Also look at car he's interested in and see if car tax will be cheaper over the contract term under the new or old car tax scheme which changes on 1 April, then of course get car either side of that date depending on outcome.

Hope this helps,

62.8 mpg from a 230 ps petrol engine? Really? Read more

Good spot. That should be 2.0 TDI. Not TSI. And the actual figure should be 64.2mpg for the hatch. 62.8mpg is for the estate. So we got that wrong on several levels...

I have put the details of the 61 plate Civic you linked on Auotrader earlier. Its confirmed as an 09 model registered 02 Septemer 2011 thus it had clearly been made quite a while before registration. Its a Euro 4 car so if its true the Civic did not have a DPF for Euro 4 this car does not have one.

Checked up on a 2011 11 plate Kia Rio CRDi and guess what, it appears to be another 2009 car with Euro 4 emisions and presumably no DPF since I know for a fact Euro 4 Rio's up to mid 2010 did not have a DPF....

I sell about 18 cars a year and have often thought about having my own website, most of the places like Autotrader are expensive and then I found this www.motortradersales.com for £325 per year it's less than £20 a car. Worth a go? what do you thinkg?

Firstly, you have to think where you buy your stock from - if you haven't looked at a particular website, or not had much success with them, then the chances are that your customers aren't going to find any joy there either. Likewise, having your own website is probably a waste of time unless you're already a well established trader - you have to think how people will end up at your website, and in the case of most potential purchasers, this would be via a link from wherever your vehicle(s) is/are advertised, ie Autotrader, Ebay, etc.

Autotrader is expensive, but has a lot of viewers, which unfortunately also means there's a lot of competition in terms of cars for sale. I've never heard of motortradersales, which suggests that it would be a gamble as to how many potential customers would see your vehicles. A website analysis search shows it to have virtually no traffic, which doesn't bode well......

Nothing major, drives in a straight line until you dip the clutch to change gear, and you feel the car pull slightly to the left, but rectifys itself when your back in gear. Steering wheel slightly of centre, so could it be the tracking? Any help of advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Read more

Sounds like a sticking caliper/piston, check the pads are free and not binding the disc?

2014 Ford Bmax Titanium 1.6 powershift.

i am presently wondering if i might have made a bad mistake. My wife and i, retired, had been looking for a small car , easy to get in and out of, and we saw a Ford Bmax powershift, took it for a short drive, seemed fine, purchased it from the dealer who could'nt have been more helpful. Purchased 10th Dec last, he included 3year service in the deal. I wondered why he serviced the car before delivery, i said why not wait till the first MOT is due in March 2017, but they serviced it anyway, the car had done 12,000 miles.I picked it up on 16th Dec, everything seemed fine. Over the next two weeks , the car had a few shudders, transmission i thought, but my main concern was the heated windscreen that only cleared one side. The car is booked into the dealers this Thursday.... Read more
