I notice quite a few cars are now supplied without a spare wheel does this mean there is an epidemic of stranded motorists ? I seem to suffer about 1 puncture every 3-5 years. I also notice the local tip is often strewn with old nails and screws etc so try to be a bit vigilant.

In the last 20 years I have had 8 tyres with punctures. 5 were repairable. 2 couldn't be repaired because the nail/screw was too close to one of the sidewalls. The remaining one couldn't be repaired because there were actually two punctures close together. The tyre guy said he thought it had been caused by something like a large staple.
So in my sample 37% could not be repaired.
I'm trying to get to the bottom of issue with climate control in this car: basically it all seems to function other than that it is always hot air that comes out. Doesn't matter what temp it is set at or if a/c is enabled or not.
I don't know if it's the flaps that aren't operating to switch off the hot air supply or if there is a sensor in the cabin that is malfunctioning.... Read more
Sounds like a fault with the temp blend motor.Access is from the drivers side .It is a small plastic case motor with a plug in connector. If I recall , it is held to the heater box with 2 x 7mm headed screws.
Hi, i would like to request some advice for my car , it is a 2002 406 2.0 hdi 110, a couple of times in the last 2 weeks when i have come to start it in the morning it turns over fast but the engine doesnt fire then after a few attempt it eventually starts , i`m not sure if it a coincidence but the radio had to put on standby before it would fire , any how it can then be ok for a couple of days then it will struggle again , when it does finally start the idle is a little lumpy similar to if there was a glow plug down and then it will settle , yesterday it did the non start thing and eventually fired up but when it came to turn the car off the engine kept running for about 4 seconds then turned off , ive been out today and there hasnt been any problem , started first time and turned off fine , there are no power issues , when it is running it is perfect , its just the ocassional difficult starting and the run on after the key has been turned off , i am going to try and get it scanned this next week but as the engine light hasnt been on i`m not sure if anything will be found , i hope someone can assist and advise , thanks in advance , simon Read more
Hi all , thought i would post an update , last week i had the car in with a peugeot / citroen specialist and gave him the symptoms , 3 days later and 300 quid lighter i had the car back , he said he had done diagnostics on it and checked the live data and all looked normal but he couldnt find anything wrong , he noted that the engine was turning over slower so he changed the starter motor , any how for 4 days the car worked fine until yesterday morning , it struggled to start , was cranking over fine just wouldnt fire and took a few minutes to start it , got to work and it ran on again for a few seconds , but wouldnt restart , i had the rac out to me last night and he put his diagnostic scanner on it and it came up with 3 faults , maf sensor , cooling fan fault and although these 2 wouldnt cause a non start , the third however he said would , P0215 - injection system relay , i cant find much information on this , maybe someone knows what i am looking for , also once the engine is hot and idling it seems to drop slightly and rev back up so it stays at idle speed , i am getting to the end of my tether and due to last weeks waste of time and money i am now short on funds , i hope someone can help me , thanks in advance , simon

I'd appreciate the benefit of BackRoomer's collective advice - my son has a 2006 Vectra Estate 150 CDTi which needs replacing with another estate of comparable space, petrol this time as his annual mileage has dropped.
He and I are looking at new, or nearly new, and have spookily both independently narrowed the shortlist down to a Skoda Octavia Estate. Being sensible, I've suggested the 1.4 TSi 150 SE but being younger, he's suggesting the 2.0 TSi 220 vRS version despite the higher costs for purchase, insurance and fuel.... Read more
I spend my time on the Briskoda site nowadays so not been posting much here since my retirement..
I have recently gone for a manual 1.4TSI Combi SE 150 bhp after a 2l diesel PDI.....
I jumped in my car this morning and turned the key and nothing. Looked at the dash and all fairy lighs were lit so tried turning the key again and nothing.... not even a click or anything. This happened about three times.
I waited a few seconds then tried again then it started...... ... Read more

I have the xenon lights on my BMW and can't find any info in the book about driving abroad and whether or not you need "deflectors" whcih I know are a pain the rear to fit. My Audi A5 had a setting change on the menus but again can't seem to find this on the BMW? Any advice experience of this? Read more
Whenever I have taken my Nissan Primera overseas I have stuck beam bender plastic gadgets on the plastic lens cover - this car has factory xenon lamps, works well. The lens pattern does change, the left side upslope of light no longer blinds oncoming motorists. Nothing in the users handbook about adjusting the headlights for continental driving, xenon or haloglen.
Hey guys, just looking for a bit of advice, on Sunday I was driving to work at 4.30am and I got pulled over, they police said "because of the time I'm going to have to ask you to do a quick breath test".
I hadn't done anything else and was within the speed limit when they pulled me over, so I complied and it came out as zero, so they let me on my way and thought nothing more of it. ... Read more
As said above, see if it happens again. As Ian Fleming put it in 'Goldfinger', once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time is enemy action.
In your case, if it happens a second time, I would actually point out to the police that you start work early, and ask why you've been stopped twice in a relatively short space of time....
I've never had a problem deciding on my next car but I have now.
I currently drive a Volvo S60 on a 61-plate and have to change it within the next few months as it has hit my company's age limit - I'm on the company car opt-out so receive a monthly payment towards buying and running my car. Possibly why I'm having trouble to decide what to get as I have to rather than want to.... Read more
>>I'd have a look at the Mazda6/CX5 as the 2.2D 175 is better for your >>mileage and is very well received in the media.
I would steer well clear of Mazda Diesels - petrols yes, but their oil burners do not have a terrible reputation of problems. Google mazda diesels & see!
My car is a 2005 Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi which is fitted with the Ford DuraTorque "Puma" engine and I believe it is a late Euro 3 version as it is around this time that Euro 4 version became available. The injectors fitted to it are 601's but I also have a new set of 701's which came out of 2006 Mondeo 2.2 TDCi (Euro 4). Please can you tell me if the two types of injectors are interchangeable and what is the difference between the two? I have looked at them side by side and I cannot see any difference in the body of the injector in fact the only difference that I can see is the spray nozzles are ever so slightly different.
Thank you very much for your help.... Read more
Thank you for your reply. Are you able to tell me what the difference is between the two types of injectors? I appreciate what you are saying but I don't understand what the differences are between a Euro 3 and a Euro 4 models.
Regards...
