Hello guys. I was recently stopped for making a food delivery from the kebab shop I work in. On the day one of our driver did not turn up on time because his sister had passed away so the boss asked me to quickly make a delivery which was very late and it was a big delivery over 50 quids. As I was about to do the delivery two constables walking by stopped me. I did not lie to them. I told them I work in yeh kebab shop half a mile away and boss asked me to make a quick delivery. He contacted somebody over the phone and they told him to seize my car. Now I am probably looking at 6 points and 300 pound fine. I need some advice please. Should I take yeh case to court and get letter from my work place that I work inside and also I only work there 3 days a week. Part time. Thanks. Read more
I do approx 5500 miles a year and using the calculator, the insurance would be £170 more than i pay now.So a bit of a gimmick i think.. Read more
There's some element of this in some policies anyway - most insurers want an estimate of your annual mileage and adjust the premiums accordingly
Hi
I bought a 64 reg vehicle from a national dealership 19 days ago, it has 26k on the clock. It was serviced immediately prior to its sale to us.
We've done 198 miles since purchase and now the spanner dashboard light comes on and the power cuts to about 10% apparently indicating it needs a service very soon. This could easily have caused a major incident as it happened on a busy main road.
Clearly this car has some sort of a problem. It does have a 3 month warranty but I have totally lost trust in it.
After 19 days and 198 miles can I demand my money back?
Thanks for your advice! Read more
I think in cases like this is rejection really the best option. You will now have to go through the whole finding/choosing/haggling/buying/insuring/taxing process again and for what, another car that could again develop an issue???
We don't know what the fault was but given the age and mileage its unlikely to be something serious or expensive. The loss of power is almost certainly a switch to limp mode and it will probably be put right at the manufactures cost. The car will be back on the forecourt by now and any costs incurred by the dealer will be passed onto the next buyer as part of the deal if at all possible....
I may be able to save Bill Smith's problem with his P38. If you can put him in touch with me before he spends a lot of money I'll certainly try.
I just wish somebody had put me wise before I spent a LOT of money.... Read more
Hi all
I've sold my last car and decided to go on my company's closed car scheme. It's an unusual list and only contains 4 that I think I can spec up to a level to be acceptable - the main manufacturers are Mini, Toyota, Renault, Audi/VW. I think with all the stop-start I do in London the time is for automatic, so with that in mind it's down to:
MINI Cooper auto media pepper
Audi A1 1.0 DSG7 Sport + tech + comfort pack
Toyota CHR hybrid Icon (basic)
VW polo r line 1.0 dsg/1.4 BlueGT DSG (+opts)
I've test driven the CHR in a higher spec but didn't like it on the motorway and thought visibility was poor so it's trailing a bit but I do love the look and reliability. The Polo I drove was the 1.0 with the dsg and that seemed smooth enough so made me question whether I needed the bluegt. The mini I drove was a manual so any experience with the auto would be appreciated - also I thought it a little noisy and hard but the salesman said if I didn't trace the 17 inch wheels on the test car it would be a lot different. Does anyone know whether that is that true? The A1 I've not tried as I assume it's the same as the polo and they only have 1.4s in my local.
I drive about an hour around London everyday, and then do an hours motorway journey on top of that twice a week to see family.
Or should I just accept manuals and all the changing that goes on in London? In which case I can get Merc A180d Sport or an A3 1.0 Sport?
Thanks in advance. Read more
Diesel Range Rovers can manage just under 30mpg in town driving. I drive an older Disco auto and manage similar. I've driven around London in normal cars and it's no comparison. Not had any issues with white van drivers, i'm guessing discos have less snob appeal. As for reliability... well I had my last disco for 8 years (99 model year) and it never let me down despite me adding 120k to it. I'm sure others will point to reliability surveys but these factor in too much 'perception'. Strangely enough Jaguar are near the top for reliability these days and have been for a while, whereas their JLR stablemate LR with same components suffer a bad rep. The older P38s were a nightmare though, too far ahead of their time. Still, i'd rather buy one of them than a reverse engineered Japanese import, or a German vehicle which is just as likely to have major electrical issues..
The machine hasn't been run for two years . It did run perfectly , but due to my age , and the bike not being with me , ( garaged elsewhere ) it now won't start. Do i sell it as scrap or pay someone to look at it . I could fix whatever the problem is , but can't due to age , kneeling and so on . It has , for the past two years been on a optimate charger . I just saw this bit of news:- www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38775559
All I can say is about time too! When I was a regular commuter I used to be delayed more than once a year by lorries hitting the same low bridge. And the number of lorries including artics (many on foreign plates) that you encounter in the lanes is beond belief.... Read more
If you don't use your satnav, you'll no know they can warn of traffic delays, rerouting accordingly - and sometimes necessary to dive off the usual route if something unexpected occurs.
A few weeks ago me and the Mrs had to go into the city early(ish) one morning. I knew the way (been hundreds of times) but not sure about the exact location of the address so I popped the post code into the built in sat nav in the Nissan but the route it suggested was miles out of the way. So I ignored it, went my way and forced the satnav into recalculating. About 1/4 of the way there we ground to a halt and then the local radio told us about the reason and the 50 minute delays....

Then I changed driving position and kept moving my arms around every 10 minutes or so..Problem disappeared....
When I connect my smartphone to the car via bluetooth, music on the phone starts playing automatically through the car audio suystem as soon as it is connected. It usually plays the last music that I played on the phone.
I have tried everything I can think of on the phone - shutting down the music app, emptying the queue etc. There appears nothing on the car system that I can set to stop it.... Read more
I have the bluetooth on the car activated so I can use the phone hands free, and also have the satnav app on the phone through the car system.

As a basic rule ,cats only smell if there is an engine running problem.Misfires would cause a smell as there is unburnt fuel in the system.Again small holes in the exhaust would not cause a problem.Anything bigger and you would hear it.There is only one cat on this model. The mot emission test will pick up any deficiency in the system.
Exactly. It would not be unheard of for the UK to “gold plate” a European Directive when subsuming it into UK law. However, the number of successful prosecutions for No Insurance in these circumstances would seem to indicate that they have not. The offence is driving without the necessary insurance cover required under S143. As I tried to explain, if an exclusion clause was declared void by virtue of the Directive then the policy would be valid. Not only would cover be provided but no prosecution for No Insurance would succeed. There’s no halfway house; you cannot have cover by virtue of the void clause but then be prosecuted for having No Insurance. Such a situation would be absurd.
