Hi, have been looking for a new car and think I've settled on a fiesta ecoboost mainly for the cheap running costs and decent power. Planning on buying through the ford direct scheme as the warranty is appealing, but have noticed a lot of the best prices are nowhere near me. Would I be mad to buy the car based on the word of the dealer and have it delivered to me? The cars I have seen are all less than a year old and no more than 2000 miles on the clock, infact some only had a couple of hundred. Also, from what I hear Ford Direct cars are usually in great condition, has anyone bought one of these before?

I think there has been discussion on previous threads about this subject, but here goes. The new vehicle I have ordered comes with a tyre inflator kit instead of a spare wheel. The option is a spare wheel and jack for £150, which seems reasonable enough. I have no experience of the inflator kits, and frankly they sound pretty 'heath robinson' and a convenient get out by manufacturers not to supply or accommodate spare wheels within the vehicle. I have used my spare only once in the past 12 years, but at least you know you can get home or to a repair garage. Any comments and experiences would be welcome.

I am weary about leaving anything on display in a parked car ... my understanding (may be wrong) is that anything not secured out of sight in a locked boot is not covered by car insurance for theft - certainly it is an invitation for someone to break in and steal the item.
I have privacy glass which helps discourage prying eyes, and always carry a large rug which I throw over any items on the back seat that I can't fit in the boot....

"Council operated waste sites quite rightly will refuse (geddit?) to accept trade waste as it's our council tax paying for them!" Our local site is quite relaxed about it after initially being quite heavy handed but they've seen a huge decrease in fly tipping since they relaxed the rules. Any sign written van has to pay but otherwise it's a free for all.
There are a few other sites in my area that aren't quite as draconian. The one I mention has also taken away the top soil and hardcore facilities, but as you say these things are more likely to end up in a layby somewhere.

It does seem that drawing BSI and the medical standards issue into this debate is grasping at straws. What I know about the medical standards that were agreed on, could be written on a postage stamp. However it has been compared to the BSI/ISO issue, of which I do know something. The construction company I worked for also manufactured some patented products and systems for the industry. I remember distinctly at management meetings many years ago the issue of harmonising standards. The comparison was made between the current ISO European standards and the equivalent BSI ones. There was not much in it as I recall, some BSI were superior and some ISO were, so we harmonised to the highest standards that could be implemented. I never thought of it as negotiating with the EU, rather simply expediting our legal requirements under current legislation, while ensuring we improved matters. I am in favour of harmonising standards on an international basis, it makes perfect sense to raise everyone to the highest standard and use similar systems and measurements to achieve this. There is no need whatsoever to join any formal 'club' such as the EU to ensure this. In fact quite what this has to do with the referendum is not clear at all.

I own the above car with low mileage, 3000 genuine, when pressing the clutch on the downward stoke there is a sound, like a click noise, as the car warms up the noise becomes gradually less, dealer says its normal... Read more
the short verison
ive checked two other of the same vintage (mark 1 facelift) and yes they all make the same noise, which becomes less and less as the car warms up, I guess they are all like that. In my opinion this is a very poor design and how it made it out of pre production i never know, still the road noise should cove up most of the noise. Do all hydraulic clutches do this?...
Hi,
Looking for some insight from you guys for my next car purchase.
I did consider buying another car last year, but after suffering 'paralysis through analysis' decided to stick with my 07 plate GTD Golf (no-dpf).
Sadly the Golf's electrics/central locking is playing up and I'm concerned it may lead to a more serious, show stopping issue.
I'm caught in two minds whether to buy something roughly 10 years old - petrol, FSH, maybe 1 owner, a brand/model thats generally considered reliable or go for something like a 3 year old Auris (maybe a Civic) and keep it until it dies - I've always kept my cars a long time, better the devil you know! I like the looks of Toyota, Honda due to the perceived reliable with these brands. I only do 4 or 5k miles a year (rarely ever in over 30mph zones and normally bumper to bumper!) and this won't be our main family vehicle. We have one 8 month old and are planning another arrival in the next couple of years, so something like a small family hatch seems abour right to me.
My budget is up to 10k, but I don't want to spend more than I have to as we're looking to buy a bigger house in the next year or two and I'd rather use money to overpay on that than spend more than I have to on a car. Basically I'm looking for something that will work out the most economical 'investment' over time, even if it means a bigger initial outlay.
I like the sound of buying an old reliable brand and not being hit by depreciation, but as my car skills stretch to topping up oil and washer fluid, it may be risky/false economy compared with buying a Toyota thats still under warranty.
I like the look of having a reliable 3 year old 1.6 petrol Auris thats still under warranty - anything under 120BHP seems like it will be too sluggish for a car that size. Personally I like Golf's but I don't want to pay more for their badge and a1.4TSI engine that introduces a bit more risk with a turbo charged engine.
When looking at vehicles not spending much on an older one seems appealing as hear stories of people buying 10 year old cars for 2k and them lasting another 5 years with minimal expenditure - then you hear about other having to spend another 2k on them within months. Similar with 5 year old cars or newer, but then initial purchase is higher as well! This is the part where I get overloaded and don end up making a decision. What do you guys think is 'generally' the most cost effective way of motoring with the sort of cars I'm looking at?
Many thanks, look forward to your replies! Read more
Excellent choice and well negotiated with £600 off! I'll give you a call next time I need money off something.
Our last Civic was 12yrs old when I sold it and never let us down and the next owner still has it.
I currently get my phone (landline and mobile) and my broadband via BT and my Sky TV direct from Sky and I seem to be paying an awful lot of money per month (about £120 in total (without any movie Channels - just Sky Sports). I am being inundated with offers from Virgin Media to supply the whole lot (and more) for about £20 per month less (in fact £50 per month less for the first 12 months). Do any backroomers have experience of Virgin for these facilities. I am reluctant to go through the rigmarole of changing everything over only to find that I am getting an inferior product. Comments (both positive and negative will be most welcome). Read more
I had Virgin for years but their service gradualy got worse, drop outs every day on tv and broadband, transfered to BT and found them to be much the same except CS was allmost impossible to get through to.
so changed to sky for all and had no problems since, now have sky Q and it`s great, they are having teething problems with Q box but I wouldn`t go back to any of the others regardless of how cheap they are
