I have seen in a local discount store a brand of oil called VISCOL. The 5W-30 full synthetic claims to meet the BMW LL04 specification. I was wondering if this oil is suitable for my 2008 BMW 520D. It is selling at a third or less of mainstream brands. Thanks. Read more

It will be absolutely spot on. Viscol are part of the company that makes Rock oil, a very well known bike brand.

If car judders if it was about to stall by making a creak noise will it ruin the clutch, transmission, gearbox in this situation?

I drive a manual car and my car is parked in a incline road so when I stick it in reverse and I would usually apply minimal throttle to make the car move because I don't like to rev the car while my foot is still on the clutch as I heard it isn't good for the clutch but sometimes I don't apply enough throttle then the car will judder or make a creak noise as if the car is about to stall. ... Jamie, may I suggest you part ex your 'sportscar' Fiesta Zetec S for an automatic gearboxed vehicle that'll be more suited to your needs !

No worries about riding the clutch when manoeuvring, no danger of destroying the suspension or wheels on the massive pothole you kindly Google street view linked to in your other post....

C4HDi

Hello people

I have a 2006 Citroen C4 1.6HDi. A few times recently when the headlights are on, the fof lights have come on of their own accord, usually the fronts, but the backs have done it too. They can either come on and stay on, or flicker on and off. Switching them on then off with the switch doesn't seem to help. I have squirted Servisol switch cleaner into the switch and the problem persists. Any ideas where to look first? I had thought maybe a relay? Which one...? There doesn't seem to be a fog lamp fuse going by my handbook - and really need to sort this with darker nights approaching. Is it going to just be an auto electrician visit? I'm near Carlisle if anyone has a recommendation.... Read more

A friend has a 206 and suffered a clutch cable breakage recently. Or are some variants cable and others hydraulic (we don't know what variant we have here though)???

It does sound like it might be the clutch probably a pressure plate failure, but have the cable or hydraulics (whichever it is) checked first.

Just a quick update for those interested.

The filter of the tank was quite dirty (some sort of build-up of anti-freeze chemicals). I cleaned it, and now it all works perfectly fine!...

Looking round for a jolly old motor once again, in the lower reaches of the well-used market, the world seems to have turned upside down. In days gone by I found Parker's always over-estimated prices and dealers were generally fairly reasonable if you looked round enough. But this example below - he wants £2495 for it and Parker's says he should be asking just under £1100!! YES I KNOW there is an adjustment for miles to be done which I can't see unless I subscribe, but I do know the difference will be marginal. I am seeing this a lot now. HELP ME LORD.

I had an '03 Santa Fe 2.7 Auto from new. Traded it in '06 because of its thirst. Regretted selling it many times - NOTHING went wrong on that car.

Did wallow a bit on the bendy stuff tho'
