We need a full set of A/T tyres for our farm/winter vehicle (Shogun sport 2007). A lot of retailers and e-tailers very expensive, though.

Saw the link on HJ home page for Event tyres. They come out to your home or work, pretty keen pricing too. Then the HJ code makes it even more so. Hankook 245/70 R16 111T A/T worked out at £90 per corner, if getting 4.... Read more

Handy to know Rob, thanks for the update.

All you've got to check now is that he's balanced them well.

Is the kompressor oil needed to be changed? If yes, how often or what is the mileage intervals for changing the kompressor oil.

Thanks in advance. Read more

I dont think Mercedes state an interval, but all oils degrade over time. Unless you are doing starship milage I would change once then forget about it.

So, regards the MOT and mileage, have I read this right: The car was laid-up before it was 3 years old and is estimated to have done less than 5000 miles?

And, curiously, the mileage had had to be estimated because the instrument cluster had been removed?...

My car has a 3 bar rated fuel filter which I'm changing soon. VW no longer make the original part so I can only get at 4 bar one (the guy at the dealership said it'll be alright, but seemed unsure). According to the Haynes manual, the pressure runs at 2.5 bar.

The fuel filter doesn't have a built in regulator...that's on the pump in the tank. I was just wondering if the higher 4 bar rating will cause any problems with fuel pressure etc.? Read more

You need to be careful here. The fuel pressure rating on the filter is actually the pressure the system runs at.There is no pressure regulator on the engine ,it is incorporated in the filter. It is important to get the correct filter. If VW say the filter has been replaced by a different item ,then this should be ok,but I would double check. The pressure rating on the filter is not what it is capable of withstanding.

Car has been back to Seat main dealer today. This time I took it,instead of my daughter. Miraculously, the technician could hear the noise, straight from the off!

After having it in the workshop for an hour,it seems that it is one of the transmission bearings( as diagnosed by an independent garage, last week).... Read more

I've now spoken to Seat UK, Customer service. They agree that this is not good,& have requested that the car is booked into a Seat dealer of our choice, where they will investigate this problem. They will appoint a "Case manager" to liase with the chosen garage.

I have developed and tested a simple method of imrpoving the overall fuel economy of my 1248 cc, NA supermini by around 5 mpg (10%) from 49 mpg to 54 mpg - based on careful 'brim to brim' measurements and meticulous petrol logs kept since purcasing the car from new over a 3 year period. The 'benefit' was also demonstrated, albeit with a milder version, on my 8 year old, 100 kg heavier, 5 door hatchback (improving from 38 mpg to 43 mpg) running from 85,000 to 100,000 miles before part exchanging it for the new car in Sept 2011. In both cases I was the sole driver and my driving patterns were very similar from the same quarter of one year to the next.

I am surprised at the magnitude and scale of the improvements - I was expecting the fuel economy improvement to be much less than 5% - which would be barely distinguishable from the normal variations one might expect due to changing traffic congestion and/or personal driving patterns, so a clear 10% improvement (with an estimated measurement uncertainty of less than 3%) must be worth having....
