My 06 fabia's rear passenger side door is jammed shut. Any ideas to get it open?
Hi, I'm a 19 yr old young man about to go to uni. I been on autotrader to see a few cars as I just passed my test. On some of the ads, they put in the description "px to clear". I been on Google to find out what this means but I'm getting various answers. Does this px to clear actually mean the car won't last long and they just wanna get rid of it or is it just they wanting to sell it quick for various reasons not necessarily to do with the condition of the car?
Also with a budget of 2000 pounds for the car and insurance, what would be the best car to get. I been looking at the vw polo 1.0 and Vauxhall corsa 1.0. Any recommendations or advise please. Really need help on this. Thanks Read more
Many thanks, Twitcherman and Andrew T, for getting us back to the point, which is of course to help and advise Jaysm. Some people need to read my 'sticky' thread at thetop of the page (Spelling and grammar - let's not get excited).
There are some good specific suggestions above, but what's important is condition (and if you're lucky some service history). If you want some kind of a 'steer' I would suggest a Ford (because there are lots of them about) or a Toyota (because nothing soldiers on quite like an old Toyota).
Hi there. Been lurking for a while and I'm wondering if anyone can help. I have a 2011 Fabia Monte Carlo and I have an annoying problem. In the winter months the windscreen mists up very quickly to the point that I can't see out. If I turn the A/C on or open the windows it goes away quickly but in my mind I shouldnt have to. It happens to a lesser extent over the summer too. Anyone have any clues as to how this is happening or what I can do to fix it? Read more
Some cars don't fog up at all even if aircon isn't used, my old MB doesn't have aircon and is one of most condensation free cars i've ever had.
Can't understand why you must have the aircon switched on to prevent misting on any vehicle, flawed design....
My Yaris started this fault in May. It starts fine and most times pulls away fine, then at a junction when I go to pull out there is no power and being an auto just creeps and then after about 20 seconds (a long time when you are creeping out into a junction) it picks up. It can go for weeks without happening then all of a sudden it does. It is really scary and I have annoyed a few drivers who wonder what the heck I am doing. It has been with a garage, who are trustworthy and good with diagnostics, for 5 weeks and they are at a loss. They have felt it a couple of times but when they get it back and plug it in it has cleared. It doesn't do it once the car has warmed up, just for the 1st mile or so after starting. But it can do it again even if I have only left it for an hour. The technician doesn't think it is the MAS because it wouldn't behave like that and would do it even when warmed up. It doesn't have a MAP so that is ruled out, and he doesn't think it is the fuel system or accelerator for same reasons as MAP. He can only think it is the main control unit which he doesn't want to replace because it's expensive and he's not 100% sure. Has anyone ever experienced this and been able to solve it? I am too scared to drive it until fixed or I'll have to scrap it. Read more
Looking at the facts so far, this could be a fuel supply issue. So filter is probably a good place to start.Could even be a fuel pump problem.
OK, thanks for your help. I'll get the garage to check out all to do with fuel supply.
Hi. I own a 2010 C5 2.0 Hdi (160 BHP) tourer. The car has 59,000 miles on it and it was used for family driving about town. I have owned it for 2 years (at 40,000 miles) and it was about to get it's 20,000 mile service until disaster happened nearly 3 weeks ago.
The car was on the local bypass when the stop light came on the dash and the engine stopped. My mother in law was driving so she pulled into the hard shoulder. She tried to start the car again and nothing happened. Her husband came out to get it towed to a local mechanic and when it was being towed, he said that the dash came up "Oil Pressure Low" warning when he turned the key. I left the car to the mechanic as the engine would no longer turn over. He stripped the engine and said that it was completely gone. There was massive damage to it. He thinks that the oil pump failed on the car and there was no oil pressure in the engine causing substantial damage to the pistons as there was no oil. He noted that the car was one of the C5 models that was supposed to be recalled to have it's oil pump replaced by Citroen, and he contacted the local dealer to confirm this. It turns out that I should have been contacted by Citroen for this, however, they sent the letters to the previous owner and not to me to get this work done.... Read more
The car has a 20,000 mile service interval ....
Which could be a contributing factor. In my humble non-expert opinion, it's foolish to run a diesel (however hi-tech) for 20K miles without servicing. I have never gone longer than 10K with the several PSA diesels I have owned, in fact I have just switched to 8K. Fresh oil looks black after 100 miles, never mind 200 times that....

Twice this year (at 4 month interval) I have experieced loss of power. Once on the flats and once on a hill.
The RPM hovers around 2500 with slight engine vibration . If I switch the engine off and then back on it clears the problem. However today it kept repeating the problem and then suddenly cleared.... Read more
If you have dpf there will Be a sensor to the left of the battery.it has 2 thin pipes that drop down towards the exhaust (to measure pressure). If car OK sometimes, unplug sensor and see if symptoms rrecur. If so indicates sensor fault, rather than blocked dpf. These bad boys are about a hundred notes, which is cheaper than new dpf. You can also try removing existing one and drying it out in a 40 oven overnight as they can get moisture inside from exhaust gasses. James
I drive a 2005 MINI cooper (Getrag gearbox). For 1 year, my car has been making a grinding/whirring sound under load whilst in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. The sound sounds like a bearing, and begins at 20mph and it gets louder the more I accelerate, but then disappears at exactly 50mph. My car sounds healthy and normal above 50mph. The car also sounds fine at tick over, and at idle when I am 'revving' my car out of gear. The performance of my car is not affected, and my gear box shifting and clutch feel fine.
I have been to a garage who have replaced my gearbox bearings, O/S drive shaft, and Diff (costing me £800!). The garage also replaced my gearbox with a reconditioned one (at no extra cost), but still the sound remains. The sound does not occur when the car is out of gear, ONLY when under load.
Does anybody know what this sound could be? - The gearbox has been ruled out Read more
Hi LUKETEE,
Did you ever got to the bottom of the transmission noise problem? - I've the exact same symptoms - a grinding noise only when in gear. I am at a loss as to what it is. I would be very grateful for any advice you may be able to give. ...
I’m losing the will to live now, so hopefully someone can help, or at least give me some advice.... Read more
Apologies, mine is actually a MK6 on an 03' by all accounts. Alloys and tyres are standard (apparently)
Can anyone explain why Ford's quote such very, very low towing weight limits for both the Tourneo Connect and Grand? They appear to vary between 750kg and 1200kg when an average loaded caravan weighs circa 1500kg.
These are van based cars and as such are surely built very strongly and appear to use powertrains that handle much higher weights in other Ford cars.... Read more
The problem is that the Tourneo Connect is a car derived van derived car if that makes any sense. What I mean by this is that the Tourneo van is based on one of the smaller Ford car platforms (probably a Focus, might even be a stretched Fiesta). This is why (in van form) they have very low payloads compared to your average Transit type van.
Once 7 passengers are in the 'Car' version of the Tourneo, and the extra weight of the bodywork is taken into account, you already have something which is probably about 400kg heaver than a fully loaded Ford Focus. This then leaves very little left for towing capacity....
In the past I have had good results with the following method.
