Hello,
So I got Toyota rav 4 2006 t180, which is high spec, with flatrun tyres (235 55 r18).Surprisingly it seems to be a problem to have flatrun tyres. Today Ive got puncture on one of my tyres and unfortunetely none of toyota branch is able to change the tyre, because lack of equipment. We spent about two hours in the toyota branch and they are unable to find any branch in the uk to change flat run tyre. After long discussion in the branch the advisors unable o find any solution, suggesting me to call all toyota branches to find out if they have facilities to change the tyre.... Read more

Basics first. When was the fuel filter changed (might never have been, these things are often changed every 100k or more).
Now, what might be a stupid question (but it needs to be asked) ... how often do you get it serviced ? I note you say you can't afford to get the main agent to have a look at it, are you also skimping on servicing too ? If so, then you might not be getting air filters/breathers changed, and they can all affect the idle on the car....
Hi,
Am thinking of buying a family MVP 2003 Toyota corolla verso or ford focus cmax.
Any suggestions or advise will be appreciated.

We had a 2005 Focus C-Max 1.6 TDCi for 5 years. In that time all it had was an annual service, MOT, tyres and an alternator belt. Probably the cheapest car to run we have ever owned. Never let us down. Superb drive for a tall(ish) car with a comfy ride and plenty of space for 5 people and a sensible amount of luggage.
When we changed we tried a Toyota Verso. It was a horrid wallowy drive and the 2.0 litre diesel was very little (if any) quicker than the 1.6 in the C-Max....
I have had this car for 8 years and 125k on the clock. Has been reasonably reiliable but now problems really starting..... the barrle of the driver side lock has gone - I have yet to be quoted for the cost - told it is not expensive - anyone know?
The clutch has started to slip - I think..... it will sometimes over rev when accelerating but it is not bad - yet. It does not slip at slow speeds/starting off etc... so could it be something else? If it is a clutch Honda have quoted £700 plus to provide and fit..... surely I can get it cheaper?... Read more
It's true - Hondas don't go wrong! The 1.7 CDTI engine is an Isuzu lump-not made by Honda.
I had one and ran it for a year or two - not bad, a bit crude and lumpy, engine mounts were suspect and started making cambelt tensioner noise when cold so chopped it in for a 2.2 ctdi civic, which I've still got.
Hi, I have a Nissan Micra K12 2007 (35,000 miles) which has recently been off road. When I start the car on cold, after a few seconds the engine warning light comes on. It is misfiring badly, with noise from the exhaust. When it gets warm the rev counter goes to 10, from 12 previously, and the car revs up, by itself without touching the accelerator, to 20 revs then back to 10. When it is revved to 4 or 5K and kept steady, there is still misfiring. There is no smell or smoke from the exhaust. I have checked the spark plugs – they look good – and I have cleaned them. I have cleaned inside the throttle body which opens and closes. Please can anyone offer help/advice. Many thanks... Read more
I wonder if soaking the new chain in melted wax lubricant like I used to do with my bicycle chain would help? We used to buy a large round tin of solid wax chain lubricant which we melted on the cooker and soaked the chain in it for a few minutes.
I had to laugh at that one-the old trick of boiling the chain up in Lynklife and getting a telling-off from your mum because of the smell and the mess!...
hi all, my blower on my vectra cdti 15, 55 plate, only works on no. 4 setting, i changed the resistor pack, but still the same, i changed the switch pack but still same. I removed switch and put a 12v feed to each terminal and i got fan working on settings 1, 2 and 3. These 3 terminals also made the green light show on my power probe, meaning earth (obviously) however the 4th termional (red wire) showed nothing, no earth, and powering it made no difference! so i know the motor is fine and the resistor pack is fine, i also hear the telltale click of the relay, but no fan on 1,2 and 3 setting, on neither of the switch packs i use. I even opened up the switch and the terminals/metal lines are fine. Please help! Read more
all sorted now, was loose blue relay, was behind glovebox not in engine bay. Thanks man. i also have non working front fogs and reverse lights, bulbs and fuses are good. Do these run off relays too?
My daughters Car has a problem with its DRW. Turn the ignition on and the throttle constantly try to set itself, the EML and Spanner lights flick on and off simultaneously with the throttle body moving and sometime the fuel pump works to. There's no codes stored other than an immobiliser fault code. When it settles and I press on the accelerator pedal gently the same thing starts to happen...the more I press on the pedal the more frequently it happens until I reach full throttle when the throttle body just goes closed to fully open constantly.
When the engine is running, ticking over nicely, I do the same with the pedal and when the revs build up to roughly 2500ish the engine stumbles (when driving the speedo drops to zero) but recovers and goes higher. When I press down quickly on the pedal, the engine stumbles, warning lights come on and a loud sucking noise can be heard from the air filter box...then when it recovers the warning lights go out.
The car worked fine a couple of days ago, but is very noisy when hot, which is why I was able to get the 1612 fault code. Then I changed the oil and it's as described above.
Just can't figure it out, any ideas welcome please.
Thanks

Nothing to do with water..Temperature very possibly,as the pins to the ecu and connector expand and contract.,and as you say,the ecu is bolted to the engine. The box next to the battery does not contain the fuel injection relays.
Hi,
My FIAT 1.2 has a dualogic gearbox, it was fine in the last few years and recently all went down hill. First broken down in March this year, dashboard flashing with 'transmission failure' and car got tow to local garage to be fixed. They do a diagnostic test on it and found failure on hydraulic pump, so replaced that part, but they can't reprogram my car, so tow to FIAT dealer for reprogram, 4 days later it broken down again with dashboard flashing 'transmission failure'. Took car back to FIAT, they have a look and found a dodgy cable, claim it's damaged while hydraulic pump being installed. Cable got replaced, after driven for about a month, car broken down again with 'transmission failure; on dashboard again! Fuse got blown off and I want to know why this happening so frequent, what caused this and is that garages' fault or dealer's fault ? Very annoyed about it as all my salary just gone into fixing this car!!!... Read more
I would just add to the above that it may be worth seeking out an independant gearbox specialist and talk to them. A neighbour has an auto Mini with the notoriously bad CVT box and he was able fix the thing at much more reasonable cost. As GB says, awful things, to be avoided at all cost. May well be much cheaper for you to change the car.
Does anyone know if the rear sare wheel on the new Ford Ecosport is detachable? I know this car was developed in South America, but it seems starnge that Ford are happy to offer most of the rest of its range without a spare wheel as standard, yet with this car it is literally bolted onto the rear which makes it look a bit bulbous and unwealdy. I presume the spare wheel could easily be removed, but am unsure what it would leave on the car and what it would look like. Read more
It seems strange that a manuafacturer as big as Ford don't have any other options on ths model. If anyone has one of, cars I would be grateful for a comment, thanks.
Maybe they think most people will want to leave it where it is.
We are considering changing our Renault Clio 1.5dci 68hp 2007 for either of the above cars, mainly because the Renault engine is very demanding and expensive on maintenance, partly due to Renault's policy of making access to the ecu exclusive to Renault dealerships with dedicated equipment.
By choosing either of the above, either petrol or diesel, am I going from frying pan to fire or are these makes more accessible to readily available OBD software?... Read more
Have owned both.
Surely the space wagon will be a lot older than the matrix?...
Owned my Rav4 T180 from day 1 (brand new Oct 2006) and never had a problem with the run flat tyres, (until now 2014)
First puncture in 2007, Toyota dealer damaged the inner band and tried to charge me for it! Questioning this with Bridgestone, got a refund and knowledge who in my local area were equipped to change my tyres. Thus did have punctures repaired and the tyre kept for me, for when I needed a new tyre...
