I have a focus with ac issue. The air con doesn't work although light displays on panel. Gas is full to max as filled it. Something I have noticed is the cooling fan is on even on cold start. A colleague looked at it and said the acon pressure sensor could cause this, anyone agree? He said if cooling fan stays on and Acon gives poor reading on pressure may not allude ac to operate
Any help would be great Read more
On this Focus model, when the a/c is switched on,the sytstem will automatically bring on the cooling fan/s.A few seconds later, once the engine has stabilised, the a/c compressor is engaged.I doubt if the pressure switch is at fault as the fans would not operate in this cycle .Take it to an a/c specialist.
The head gasket on my 54 reg, 53k miles 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa has 'blown' after the engine overheating due to a water pipe coming loose.
I have the car under a third party warranty company, which came with the car from the dealership I bought it from. The initial quote I received from my local garage was around £100 for new spark plugs, oil filters etc, as warranty will cover the head gasket and all of the labour. They did not start the work as they needed to agree a price with the warranty company.
After not hearing from the garage for 4 days, I phoned up, and now they are quoting me over a thousand pounds for a new water pump, timing belt, skimming, spark plugs, oil change etc, aswell as £200 for a 'pressure check'?!
I'm a 17 year old boy with a good part time job, so £1000 isn't completely out of my price range, however would be a significant set back!
Essentially, my question to the forum is, is it worth paying an extra thousand pounds to get this job done, or are the garage trying to get me to pay for work that doesn't need doing?
Also, is there any merit in pursuing the dealership that I bought it from only 3 months ago?

1.2 defo has a timing chain not belt
I bought the car two years ago and it's runing very good and passed the MOT.
I had it converted to run on LPG,changed front and rear disks , pads. What do you recomend to maintain it with my experience garage. The main dealers are very expensive and what to take care about.... Read more
The most important thing is regular filter and oil changes, when they are being done things like brake pads and discs can be checked but apart from that do things as they become necessary.
Hello
My lpg tank is 40 litres judging by the dimensions.
The most I ever filled up the LPG tank is with 32 litres , I usually fill up when the last of the 4 green lights has been flashing for some time. Not sure how much further I can drive , does anyone know if there is a red light to say that the tank is empty?
Anyway. I noticed that the mileage I am getting is approximately 160-170 miles per 32 litres lpg tank doing city driving. Does this sound right given the car is 50 litres max petrol tank and I get 340 miles doing city driving on full petrol tank. This means per litre petrol tank I would be getting 200 miles approximately. Ignoring the cost of petrol and LPG , does this sound right and how does it compare to a deisel car in terms of fuel efficiency?
Price of petrol is approx £1.28
Lpg price is £0.6 from local lpg station which is cheaper than big stations.
Deisel approx 1.35
Thanks Read more
GB is still waiting for the OP to reply to the other thread he started.
In reply to you MT, my experience so far is that the MB returns just slightly less mpg on gas, that conversion has been a complete success, despite being regarded by those in the know as a cheap Polish made system doomed to failure 3 days out of warranty, it has in fact been completely reliable, i wouldn't hesitate to convert another Benz....
Hi there
I fractured my femur in two places in January while skiing and have not driven since then. I'm attending physio and orthopaedics at the hospital and I am now at the tail end of my recovery. Do I need to tell my insurance company about breaking my leg, taking into account that I am not going to drive until I am 100% back to normal. The Orthopaedic Consultant did say that I could drive short distances on quiet roads but this sounds too ambiguous for me and I am just going to wait until I'm completely clear. Read more
Back to the OP question, one issue I can see is if he is the named main driver on his insurance. If his incapacity changed that situation and another person is now the main driver (even if previously named as another driver) then he should tell the insurer. While any risk of their finding out is low (and hopefully there will be no claim!) I would call them just to avoid the worry should a claim arise before he is back to fitness. I can't imagine it will cost much if anything to do this. Might be best not to mention it's been the situation since January. Most people would probably keep quiet on the whole issue but I like to avoid problems even if unlikely.
Old diesel engines are what I have read not fuel self primers. If I run out of diesel how would I start them? Read more
Most old Diesels (and some newer) will have a primer pump on them, might be a plunger on top of the filter casing, might be a rubber bellows in the fuel line (PSA group).
Some don't have anything, surprisingly the W124 MB Diesel didn't have a primer, (don't know about W123) was supposed to be self bleeder so wind the starter over for up to 3 or 4 minutes to pump the fuel up, blow that for a lark on any amusingly called self primer (eyewash, they saved cost by not fitting a primer), it'll take years off the starter and do the battery no good at all....
MILs Corsa-C suddenly developed a oil light and lots of rattling on motorway. She stopped straight away and on restart the fault was cleared.
What could be causing this and is it linked to the chain which I think needs changing anyway as it's getting a bit dieselly? Has anyone experienced this problem before? If so what was the solution? ... Read more
Yes, as far as I'm aware, the oil pump is also run off the chain on these.
My air conditioning is not working due to a perforated Condenser caused by stones going through the grill. At first BMW refused to repair under warranty and at a cost of £600.
I have since found out there is an acute shortage of Condensers (design fault?) and supplies are taking at least four to six weeks.... Read more
There seem to be several suppliers on ebay ranging from around £100-250 for a 520D. There are a few variants in design and fitment so this would need to be checked - I assumed a 2015 car.
Fitting would be on top + I assume an aircon recharge. But lots cheaper than BMW and could be done in a few days.
Hello Readers, I have a question about air con servicing on my 11 year old Golf, it has the Climate Control option installed.
Although the aircon is still delivering usefull cool air its been 4 years since the last service. I recall at the last air con service the local garage mention a small filter on the dashboard could /should be changed. When I asked why I did,nt get a sensible answer so I declined. In my workshop manual it is identified as sunlight pentration filter which is fitted on the bottem left of the aircon control section.... Read more
Looking at the evidence so far, there is nothing wrong with this car.If it ain't broke ,don't fix it.
>>> Sounds to me as if you are actually saying, dont buy a Hyundai out of warranty. Thats a lot of failures.
Not really "failures" the shock was a bit squeaky on the worst speed bumps so they just replaced it. The alloys were ever so slightly bubbling from the rear of the wheel hubs, only noticeable with a keen eye close up, all 4 replaced not refurbished. The footbrake/handbrake was slightly grabbing intermittently, they found the shoes were faulty (known problem) and replaced discs/pads/shoes. ...
