R56 2006 Mini Cooper - Mini Cooper Randomly Cutting Out - scamp206

Hi folks,

I have a Dec 2006 model R56 Mini Cooper with approx 48000 miles done. In the last few months I have found that randomly the engine cuts out when stationary at traffic lights etc. It only seems to happen once every week or two but this week it actually cut out as I was coming to a stop at traffic lights.

Anyone else experienced this or know where to start. I can't afford to put it to Mini Dealer for inverstigation.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Basics first. When was the fuel filter changed (might never have been, these things are often changed every 100k or more).

Now, what might be a stupid question (but it needs to be asked) ... how often do you get it serviced ? I note you say you can't afford to get the main agent to have a look at it, are you also skimping on servicing too ? If so, then you might not be getting air filters/breathers changed, and they can all affect the idle on the car.

If all that is up to date, then it could be one of any number of sensors. Really, you need to get a garage to have a look at it. There are a lot of independent garages that are good, and a lot that specialise in certain marques. Join an online mini owners forum, see if they keep a register of specialists.
