Am selling our Chrysler Voyager 2004, and have a set of winter tyres, on rims, for it in the garage. Will I be able to use these tyres on a different car? Am possibly buying a Chevrolet Captiva...is this not made by the same company, and therefore likely to fit my winter tyres?

Any advice greatly recieved.... Read more

If the tyres are the same size and the same speed and load ratings are teh same they are usable on any car you buy.

Rims are more unique....

I've looked online, but I know there's a wealth of knowledge here, so I thought it worth posting to ask:

Is it possible to make a replacement inner door membrane from sheet rubber or plastic?... Read more

Perfect day for fitting the sound-deadening mats.

Does anyone know a good way of removing the glue residue for the membrane?

So far I have tried:...

pullgees

I'm struggling to get the new bush in on the trailing arm. So far I've stripped the thread on my home made bush puller and bent a g-clamp. It is stuck solid two thirds in.
A garage owner told me he usually grinds a bit of the outer body of the bush.

So with the other new bush I tried doing this by holding a drill bit through the centre hole and running it back and forth across the bench grinder but after an hour there was barely any difference, it still needs more taken off, in fact I took more off the grinding wheel then the bush.... pullgees

Although these bushes can be removed and replaced in situ, and there is a service tool available to do it, it's a long slog and very slow. I find it's easier to remove the complete axle and remove and install the bushes using a bearing press. A second pair of hands will help too.

Well I'm glad to hear it's not just me that finds it a tough job. As I haven't got that kind of gear I had to make do with what I had and borrow.
What is the point of making them so tight when you can get poly ones which can be pressed in with a g-clamp and they are suppossed to last longer and give better handling?

hi to all,
I have just purchased my grandads car for £300 it has 70,000 miles on it and is a toyota carina e 1.8 cdx on an N reg. it has been sat for 2 years my grandad lives in thailand so it hasnt been touched. sorned obvioulsy and mot expired. charged the battery overnight and ticked it over for ten minutes on my dads advice. started first time. i have not moved it or taken the wheels off so i am unsure if the brakes are ceased hopefully not they should just be sticky. it has been 2 years. a taxi driver told me i should check the clutch not sure how to do this. to my knowledge everything works except the radio/cd. which i can replace. was considering putting in a k&n air filter is this worthwhile. any advice other than try not wrapping it round a tree will be appreciated with thanks. i have read that castrol sms is the best for gearbox oil change which i happily take on board. will consider worthwhil modifications if its worth it for the car. i havent driven for 5 years and the car is 18 yrs old. i would imagine there are things on the market i do not know about and i would imagine there to be technology improvements in 20 yrs since the car was manufactured. i read that platinum spark plugs is an option but as far as i know this car has had bosch.
kindest regards guys
thank you

My MD has an Audi A4 on business contract hire. He recently scraped the side on a gatepost, scarring part of the nearside rear door and wheelarch down to the metal, with minor denting too.

It's over a relatively small area of metal (perhaps 12 inches x 4 inches) but I believe the damage is too deep for the like of Chipsaway. ... Read more

Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered before but I have searched and can't see anything.
I'm looking to purchase a new nissan qashqai and have searched local dealerships, dealerships further afield and online. The best prices are with online car supermarkets and brokers... The dealerships just can't match the discounts offered.
I was just wondering if anyone has used broker4cars? I have chatted to them and can pay my deposit by credit card and the balance can be funded by a further down payment and HP with a company called motor finance.
The car will not be ore reg and I will be the first reg owner and not car of.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have not bought a car since 2006 and I purchased that from a local dealer.
Thanks everyone Read more

So it is! Note to self... read properly before commenting.

Good shopping skidpan, credit doesn't come cheaper than 0%.

Always amazes me that people will shop around for a good upfront price on the car but then give away every penny and more by not shopping around for the finance.

Evening all...

I'm after some pretty basic advice regarding my cheap as chips old A Class. I picked it up simply as a bargain hack, and for an S plater it's not bad; the arches are still there in all four corners and it's no more wooly to drive than any of these that I've come across (they're handy little tools but I'm no illusion that an early W168 is a 'good car') with just the usual lurching handling and spine breaking suspension characteristics!... No more than £150 for new Mintex disks and pads fitted, but with a car that age caliper issues cannot be ruled out.
