I had a frorced Regen on my Focus yesterday along with a DPF replenish, after the EGR valve was replaced.
The Garage warned me that the PAT fluid pump was pumping too much fulid into the car, as a result of a dodgy repair done on the car before I purchased it. This resulted in copious amounts of white smoke.... Read more
Anyone catch Watchdog on BBC1 last night? I don't normally make a point of watching it but I switched on after dinner to witness BMW Mini getting a serious kicking from actor Richard E Grant about the power steering failure on his daughter's car, a petrol R50/53 made in 2004.... Read more
Your problem is going to be getting anything out of BMW when the cars involved - the pre-facelift Minis - are all over 6 years old. Manufacturers (to an extent understandably) are very reluctant to pay out compensation to cars well out of warranty, because sadly customers indulge in bandwagon-jumpery and take advantage of a precedent.
Fully agree Avant, If power steering failed in warranty, get it fixed by BMW/Mini, but a majority of people will always believe what the service receptionist ( who often has zero knowledge of problems) tells them....
Hello All,
I am hoping for guidance towards the legitimacy of getting a ticket after a year of perhaps having committed a driving offence in Italy.
Last year on Aug 27th (27/08/2012) I had flown to Pisa and had rented a vehicle for 4 days.
All I can recollect about the car I rented was that it was a White small sized car.
I returned the car on the 30th at Venice Airport, from where I flew back home.
However few days back i.e. (14/09/2013) after more than 1 year, I have received a letter in the post from the Municipality of Pisa, stating that I had entered into a restricted traffic zone without authorisation. I am not able to agree or dispute on having committed this offence as I cannot really remember if I had been in the side street that is mentioned in the letter (Via Camozzo).
I also found it strange that the Italian authorities have dated this notice to me to have been written out on August 2, 2013 although the cover in which it came clearly has a posted stamp of Sept 7, 2013.
In the letter, they have also provided link to a site which is supposed to be photographic evidence; however this actually only shows the photo of a car and not the driver. Hence I cannot really tell if this is the same car as what I had rented and if I was actually the driver.
I have uploaded the notice, the envelope and snapshot of the evidence to the below link, with the hope to get advice on what should I be doing next.

I am currently expected to pay a fine of 121 Euros within 60 days of receiving this notice, failing which it would be increased to 198 Euros. ... Read more
2013? It's deja vu time all over again.
Send the Italians a picture of wads of Euros and tell them to keep the change....
Coming up to oil change time again, but this time a little confused as to which oil to use.
I have read that if doing a short term change (Every 7k/yearly in my case) its better to use 5w40, rather that the more expensive 5w30 longlife stuff.... Read more
you will always get divided opinions on oil so go with what you can afford.
around £25 for 5 litres was the norm when i used to buy from a factors (5w40)
I purchased a New Nissan Note in March 2013 from Glyn Hopkin Ltd, Romford, a main local Nissan Dealer. It was soon noticed that it pulled to the left quite badly. We notified the dealer of this problem within 2 weeks of taking delivery and it was 27 days before they were able to have the car back for checks. So far they have had the car back 3 times, each time saying that it is within Nissan specification and no problem exists. I have over the last 5 months had 5 independant checks all recognised garages including 1 other Nissan Main agent, they all confirmed that it pulls to the left unacceptable in a modern car and one stating that it could be dangerous. All these checks I have paid for myself. I have also contacted Nissan Customer Care and have a case number of my complainr but have got very little help from them as they will only accept the findings of the dealer. The car is not now in use and I feel that my only course of action is to proceed through the court to get a resolution to this problem. Any suggestions please.

Avant gave you a simple answer on Sept 18th.
Why are your expecting the dealer to do the right thing here...do you expect a politician to honour a cast iron guarantee once he's got your vote?...

I had this prob soon after purchase of c5-2007 vintage. Update at dealer sorted it, it was the audio system. If your car is this age do some research, call dealer and see if its missed an update. Probably unlikely this mis ypur prob but worth a try.
My Mrs has a Mondeo, and when the engine is turned off, it emits this "moo" or groan for about 7 seconds, It sounds like maybe a cooling fan or somethign like that, but I cannot pinpoint it.
Also sometimes, but not always, there is a very faint whistle coming from behind the dashboard, again i can't find where from, the only thing that affects it slightly is turning the steering wheel when its Idling.... Read more
As mentioned, it's the solenoid valve that controls the VNT mechanism on the turbo. As soon as you start the engine, the vac pump creates vacuum in all the lines. When you switch off, atmospheric pressure bleeds into the valve through a small hole, to return the vac actuator to a resting state.
Over time the small bleed hole can get part-blocked, causing the sound....
My friend had just bought a Honda civic cdti 2008 lovely motor but is thinking of running it on red diesel, I've tried talking him out if it cause I've heard it ruins your injectors can you confirm this so I can show him he's an idiot, he knows its illegal but doesn't care, thanks ever so much Read more
I will say it again, red diesel A2 is not the same as DERV with dye in it.
The EN50 is the same as DERV....
The handbook says not to use a cycle rack hung on the back. I assume the lightweight construction and plastic bumper cannot cope. Has anyone tried it for one bike, on the assumption the manufacturers are covering themselves against anyone hanging three on the back ?
I would go for a towbar mounted carrier except my latest Jazz is a Hybrid with a battery in the boot and towbars banned, presumably because of fixing problems. Read more
We also have a Jazz and found that by taking off the front wheel of the bike and folding down the rear seats that we could easily get a bike inside the car. Depending upon the size of the bike frames it may be possible to get two bikes I side. Don't underestimate how much room there is with the seats folded and the bikes front wheels removed.
Having had a blocked fuel filter within 5000 miles from new and with my car now on 11000 miles, I am concerned that with colder weather, I will again experience what is apparently "clouding" of the diesel fuel and blockage of the fuel filter. Three times earlier this year the car engine suddenly stopped, the last time unfortunately when following the hea*** for my mother's funeral in April when the temperature was not excessively cold.

I fill up at Asda [diseasel]...now, whenever the opportunity arrises. Largely due to Asda's overall pricing policy [I don't 'shop' there]..
I achieve consistently, the same fuel consumption as obtained if I happen to fill with Shell, BeePee, Jet, etc....
Quite horriffic, from my own experience I am planning on getting shot of this car as soon as possible. The total bill comes short of 1.5 grand to sort this problem out and that is only because I have sourced the required parts myself.
I will never buy another car with a PSA engine, I will also never buy another ford again as the build quality is in my opinion very poor, in the past couple of weeks I have drived quite a number of hire and courtesey cars that cost the same as the Focus and are far better in both build quality and performance....
