I've read a lot of posts and they've given me some things to think about but nothing that fits my issue.

My focus has just developed the same issue, have you managed to get yours fully sorted? I can jump start the car with no problem as I did last night but trying to start again today it's doing the same thing.....

Hi,

I am trying to find out what engine oil should be used with a peugeot 307 rapier.
There is no clear information in the handbook, just a generic chart trying to cover all the peugeot models.

I have so far got 3 candidates from friends and a garage
15W40, 15W30, 10W30
I understand either of them will do.
Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks Read more

Or look in the car manual where it lists all the grades of oil you can use, I use a 307 1.6 petrol for running about in Germany and I use Total 5 40 fully synthetic only because I have a 80 gall tank full of the stuff but we have harsh wnters and hot summers were - 30 to +35 is not unusual.

The low-speed fan cut-in coolant temp on that engine is 119C. (The CHT sensor will be reading 140C+ by then.) It will feel hot....

I have recently taken delivery of a Ford B-Max 1 ltr ecoboost 120ps and not very impressed with the MPG, after going back to my Ford dealer the service manager took my vehicle out for atest drive and came back saying the vehicle was ok but suggested that i should use Shell petrol, I see from your answer to other question that you favour the Vpower so all i want to know is the difference in price per litre worth it between Vpower and Fuelsave

FCOL man, you said the petrol companies do not claim fuel economy improvements - my quotes are claims of exactly that from several fuel companies, they may be worded in such a way that lawyers can weasel their way out of law suits after quoting acres of smallprint, but that is not what you said. They do make claims of fuel economy improvements – even if they are not worth the paper they're printed on.

S I made my decision. Citigo it was going to be....until I went to the dealer. Apparently they're running a special offer and the two models are the same price. Any suggestions? I will be using the vehicle for city driving and want something with a high MPG. Thanks! Read more

I would think heavily before I bought an obselete car from VAG,

I quite liked the looks of the Mi, UP and Citigo until I realised, just in time that none of them had centre air vents but only side ones and that would mean inadequate centre ventilation in the recent hot Summer months....

My car has done less than 99,000 miles and drives beautifully. BUT when starting from COLD there is quite a loud rattle from the top of the engine which lasts for a second or two at the most, and then vanishes. There is no problem when starting the engine hot, only when cold. It has been suggested this may be worn variable valve timing units. Do you have any experience of this problem, and what may be the cure. Read more

Mine's been sorted out.

I have what sounds like this exact issue, can you please tell me what the problem was and how you got yours sorted out....

My Golf wouldn't start in the mornings (although will start later in the day) and i took it into a local (non VW) garage for diagnostic. They told me it was a camshaft sensor fault, and in order to get to the camshaft sensor, they would have to remove the timing belt. They advised me that the timing belt should be changed, as the car is 4 years old and they don't reccommend re-using a timing belt. I called a VW garage to check that this was the correct advice and they agreed that the timing belt should also be changed. The starting fault remained and i decided to get VW to do the diagnostic (at a further cost of £70). They told me that the ECU had a fault and would have to be replaced at a cost of £1250.

Surely it is not the norm for a 58 plate Golf with 49k on the clock to require a new ECU?... Read more

If you can't rely on a VW main garage then who can you trust?!

You search hard and find that make specific indy workshops that never ever need to advertise, and enjoy the results and the money saved for years to come....

Although there have been failures not every car has suffered. Its like the threads that will tell you every BMW suffers timing chain failure and every Nissan Micra suffers timing chain failure and steering column failure. Some do, most don't.

Whatever car you decide to buy could be a money pit, its the luck of the draw. A lot of people only change cars when they are troublesome and most of those cars end up on forecourts. Judge each car individually not on the predjudices of a few forum members.

I have been loking on auto trader for a cheep sub £1k car just to drive to work and back. T here seems to be a fair amounts of false aderts on there regarding price of the advertised vehicles.
