I'm sure that the bodywork is no more or less good than any 11 year old car. Simply saying that the 'bodywork is commensurate with the age of the car' would do; if I was tempted by the vehicle I'd come and look anyway.

Hi all, My previously 100% reliable car has developed a misfire. It is very intermittent, ie one minute the car's running as sweet as a nut, then it misfires for anything from 5 secs to 20 secs, then it runs fine again. It doesn't seem to happen when the engine is cold, only when it's thoroughly warm. It has just had new plugs and HT leads but this hasn't made any difference. The distributor cap was dusty but this has been cleaned out and it has no signs of cracking. The pins in the distributor cap do show signs of wear but they are all intact. The rotor arm is a little rough but intact. The car is regularly serviced and has a FSH. Fuel filter (I think) is about 10,000 miles old. I have tried a new tank of petrol from a reliable source and even some STP petrol injector cleaner but the problem persists. I would be grateful if anyone has any advice! Thanks. Read more

UPDATE: I googled similar problems and these pointed to a dodgy fuel injector. The next time the car was misfiring, I put a long screwdriver to my ear (the blunt end!) and put the pointy end on the top of each fuel injector in turn. This acted like a stethoscope and I heard 3 of them ticking away nicely and one wasn't.

I bought a second hand part from a spare parts dealer and this was relatively straightforward to fit. Have done 100 miles since and there has been no re-occurrence, so it looks like it's cured now. Thankfully a cheap fix and a return to a trouble free commute.

This car occasionally fails to start first time. Engine catches and immediately dies. Occasionally needs 2 or 3 goes, then runs no problem. Does this sound like the immobiliser not reading the key transponder? Had similar symptoms on a Golf (same engine) using a key that was a cheap copy with NO transponder. Of course that key never started it! Is there an easy fix (loose wire) or an expensive replacement needed? Read more

Hi everyone,

I've just joined the forum. I have a question about the 140BHP diesel engine in the Golf Sportline estate and the 141BHP diesel engine in the Seat Exeo estate/ST. Basically are they the same engine please?!... Read more

Is there a list of VAG diesel engines and the potential problems, as someone looking at an Exeo/A4/Octavia/Golf diesel estate its a minefield.

I know the 1.9TDi PD engines are pretty good, but later ones throw con rods, 2.0's have an oil pump problem with no chain drive, now I hear chain driven ones also have a problem and the orientation of the engine can also affect the reliability of the 2.0CR's ??!...

Hi folks. I've just had the Stop light and brake light come on. According to handbook it's maybe fluid level but the level is fine. Since it came on its went out but then 15 minutes back on. My mot last week put front pads and discs as advisories. Would this be the cause? Pads not grinding yet Read more

As it has a tow bar fitted ,it is possible that the electric 7 pin socket is fitted with a rear fog light inhibit switch. This switches off the rear fog light on the car when the trailer is coupled. This may be your problem.hth

Hi folks newbie he looking for some advice.
Bought a 2005 diesel mondo from a local small dealer, good mileage on it only 60000 - cost 2400 gbp and he gave me a 3 month engine only warranty.
Problems ever since. Flywheel had to be replaced after a month - dealer said that it wasn't part of the engine therefore does not apply. Then 3 weeks ago after getting that fixed for 600, the car gave more issues driving. Turns out it needs new injectors and a pump - the mechanic says it was being used with laundered diesel - will cost another 1000 to fix- the 3 month warranty has now expired.
Planning to back to dealer, what do you think my approach should be please.
Any advice gratefully received

Explaination of the sale of goods act 1979..

"The onus is normally on you rather than the trader to prove a claim (that is, to prove that the vehicle is faulty in some way). However, the law states that if you are claiming repair, replacement, full or partial refund within the first six months of ownership, the onus is on the trader to prove that the vehicle was sold without faults when you bought it. This is called the 'reversed burden of proof'. After six months, the burden of proof reverts back to you to provide evidence to support your claim that the vehicle was faulty when it was sold."...
