Rear fog lights not working bulbs and fuses are all ok no actual fuse for rear fogs only front

Are the contacts for the bulb feee of corrosion? If not sure clean up with emery paper. Are the earth connections to the car bodywork free of dirt/corrosion? If not then more emery paper.

Failng that it's wiring diagram and multimeter time. My Xantia of similar vintage (2000) was prone to breaks in wiring that ran thru' trunking into tailhatch. Reversing lights, segements of tail light array and hrw were all affected at different times.

Is Xsara's wiring similarly stressed?

Is there a tow-bar fitted or any evidence of a previous fitment?When the rear fogs are switched on,does the warning light illuminate on the switch/dash?

There is a tow bar, fitted by citroen dealer. Dash light comes on to indicate lights on

As it has a tow bar fitted ,it is possible that the electric 7 pin socket is fitted with a rear fog light inhibit switch.This switches off the rear fog light on the car when the trailer is coupled.This may be your problem.hth
