Hi Everyone,
I am after some advice here. Long story short: 2 months ago we bought a car advertised on Gumtree. We met the seller, who looked genuine, had all the right things to say. -This was our first car buy in the UK.- Agreed to purchase the car in 2 days and had it dropped off at our address, where we paid by bank transfer. We didn't check the V5C when signing, (he wasn't the registered keeper) also didn't enquie about a receipt as we thought with bank transfer we don't need it.... Read more
Incidentally if the rogue gave you a current MoT, you can check its MoT history since 2007 on the Gov website (use the MoT 'certificate' serial number). That could be interesting.
Andrew, I checked it previously, based on that it is valid, although Mycarcheck only validated the mileage up till 2010, when she had her accident. The later mileage is not included there. I have found small discrepencies like failing an MOT then passing it in 2 days with the same mileage- this I thought was interesting... Or when it failed an MOT then in 6 weeks passed the next one, but did 610 miles in between......
I am currently toying with the idea of buying a <1 yr old Auris Hybrid from Motorpoint. There seem to be lots of glowing reviews about Motorpoint however I understand that they import most of their cars which then do not come with a standard warranty. Would I be correct in my reasoning that as the Auris is a UK built vehicle, any cars on motorpoint shouldn't be imports and will therefore come with the standard UK spec and warranty?
Or do imports even come into the equation with used cars as I would imagine Motorpoint's used stock consists of trade ins and ex rentals/fleet.... Read more
Not all of the first generation Auris (2007-2012) were UK built - three door Auris were built in Turkey, and five door Auris/Auris Hybrids were built in the UK. The second generation Auris (2012 onwards) are all UK built.
It is possible that the pre-registered Motorpoint cars may be imports (from Eire, Cyprus, etc).
HI there,
Newbie to this forum and normally, I hate people diving in with zero posts and just asking questions but I promise to try and help elsewhere to make up for doing so myself!... Read more

Was looking at a Golf Plus to buy but noticed headlights had something on them. Further looked and founfd it to be dulling of the plastic.
Can they be restored?... Read more
It will polish out (if its outside and such dulling usually is, tell by feel and try a test patch), some people use various very fine grades of wet and dry followed by T cut type stuff.
I used Peek (similar metal polish to Autosol) on my sisters MB, brought the headlights up like new again....
I have had this car from new. It now has about 113000 miles on the clock . In the last few thousand miles oil consumption has become every high - about 1 litre per 800 miles.
Servicing has always been on time /early and only BMW recommended oils have been used... Read more
Thanks for the info.
Hi,
I have a 2011 SMax that i purchased in April 2012 from a dealership (ex-demo), since the 22nd of July I have experienced an issue with a "Steering Malfunction" message on screen that renders the car unstartable. Car was relayed by the AA to a ford dealership and "fixed" under warranty and i had the car back within a week. The following week the same issue occured, again it was relayed and again it was "fixed". This has now occcured 6 times and ford seem unable to fully resolve the underlying issue.... Read more
Try another Ford dealer who may have more skill.
Hi, my daughter has a 2002 Clio 1.4 Auto. It runs fine for about an hour, then an engine light comes on and it drops power completely... very dangerous on the highway. If you stop and restart the car it seems to reset and run OK for a while then does the same thing... could be related to temp?. There is a strong petrol smell when it does this. The Renault dealer has charged a fortune to have this diagnosed previously, it has been back to them on several occassions, at one point they claimed it was the rear lights that all needed to be replaced along with wiring... they based this on the fault indicator 'tool' showing a short somewhere in the system. They kept the car for several weeks testing it (which was good of them to do...but) and claimed it was fine. I suspect it had not been run for long periods, just short hops around the town. So when she drove the car again for a long highway trip it went into this limp type mode after an hour, then continued to do it every few miles. I have read articles/blogs that talked about lambda sensors, UCH's MAP sensors, Coil Packs and the like, but the symptoms, although similar, were not the same. Has anyone come across this before or know what a likely fix might be ... especially as it seems to ok when the engine is hot. Many thanks. Ian Read more
