FIAT Doblo Cargo 2006 - Rear engine mount - thepoolguy

HI there,

Newbie to this forum and normally, I hate people diving in with zero posts and just asking questions but I promise to try and help elsewhere to make up for doing so myself!

I have a 2006 Fiat Doblo Cargo van with the 1910cc 8v td unit in it and it seems to have broken an engine mount as I'm getting a clonking sound when on/off the throttle, which does not seem to occurr (as often) when going over bumps.

Having watched the engine jumping about when starting, and doing some research, I'm fairly confident that it's the lower engine mount at the rear of the motor.

To be fair with this van, fixing it is beginning to feel like a game of "whack-a-mole" and as soon as i nail one problem down, another pops up. However, things dictate that I have to stick with it for now, so fix it I shall.

Can anyone advise me if there's any special trick to changing this lower mount? any problems I may encounter, or is it a simple case of slacken off, support the motor on a jack stand and swap over before tightening it down?

Also, does anyone know a workshop manual type set up that's available for this van that's better than the pony CD ones on ebay?

Many thanks

Phil

Ok, I'm jumping in on something which I know nowt about! But I do know how that bottom engine mount fits on my Fiesta, and the Transit connect van has a similar mounting, because it's the same PSA make of engine, so I would hope that your Fiat van has the same sort of mounting.. Then again... it's a Fiat, so they may have made it overly complex to suit the Italian temperament.

Mine has a very simple mount fitted in with four bolts, each one removed with a 13mm socket. Refitting the new mounting just needs a second person to move the engine whilst you locate the bolts in the first couple of holes.

Having fitted a new mounting on mine (actually, I let Oily Mick from the Garage down Kay Brow do it, 'cos I haven't got the facilities to get underneath), I looked at the broken rubber of the old mounting and realised that it could be repaired - at a cost. I cut two small rectangles out of the sidewall of an old bicycle tyre, coated them in a black mastic roof sealant which I had left over and pushed them down both sides of the alloy centre boss where the rubber had broken away. I then filled the rest of the rubber section with the mastic, smoothed it over and it's set nicely. If or when the replacement fails, I will refit the repaired one. Just a thought for you in that it isn't always necessary to buy new if the faulty item can be repaired.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply Mr Eckerslike. Unfortunately, this doesn't use the 1.6 litre unit you mention. It's a 1.9 litre 8 valve turbo diesel unit, which (apparently) isa basis for some of the CDTI Vauxhall units.

Good performer (if a little peaky in the power delivery), very economical and, in essence is let down by the fact it's in a Fiat bodyshell with associated wiring and other maladies to compete with.

Overall, its thumbs down from me on the fiat, but would like it to be otherwise as, theoretically at least, its a good van..
