My daughter has a 1.2 8v Punto on an 02 plate. The car has 60k on the clock and in the last year has had a full major service including cam belt change at a fiat main dealer. It drives fine and appears economical on her 50 mile daily commute. For the last few months though her MIL light has been on. The code suggests a mixture problem and I thought I’d found it when I discovered that a coil pack connector wasn’t pushed fully home. When the engine is warm I can get the light to go out and stay out if I start the car without throttle. If it’s cold or you touch the accelerator starting the lamp comes on and stays on. Forums seem to suggest anything from ECU to battery, to leads and plugs, though the plugs should have been changed in the main service. Mr Clutch swapped the Coil Packs out but it made no difference so they put the originals back (and didn’t charge). I want to sell the car as my daughter has now got a Micra but obviously want to fix this first. Any thoughts?... Read more

A 'Saint' type Volvo has just clocked up three million miles in the USA. That is pretty incredible, the owner...Irv Gordon... has had it for 47 years. How many cars do we get throgh in 47 years. 15? 20? more? Read more

100,000 gallons@£6.26=£626,000.00 fuel bill=gulp

Don't think he'll be paying £6.26! Gas was about 25c/gallon when that car was first registered. It's now about £3/gallon, I think. Still a whopping dent in the pocket though!

I'm happy with my X Trail but a series of short journeys is not good for modern diesels and the X Trail is no exception.

I predict that you will become very familiar with the EGR valve before too long and these sites are worth book-marking...

hi all,

i have had problems with the starter motor on my daughters car, i have replaced it with a second hand motor after having to clean the ground terminal on the solonoid etc, the stupid thing is now doing the same thing as if the spade connection is not making good contact and its just clicking when trying to start. can anyone tell me where the other end of the contact from the spade on the solonoid contact is on the car, im guessing it must be to ground on the body somewhere but have tried tracing it to no avail, would appreciate some help, thanks, dave Read more

wrongcarordered

Hi, was looking for some guidance/advice please. I ordered a company car in May a factory order titanium x business edition estate with a few extras. Drove to ford dealer in Manchester today saw the car and heart sank was a hatchback!!. Turns out that ford have got the order wrong. So my options are sack the order and get another make, take the hatch and some compensation or reorder the estate and wait till December/January.
Now the car is cracking and could do without the estate if they put a tow all on. My dilemma is what kind of compensation should I be looking for? The nice chap who was at ford said it would be a nightmare for ford to shift as they would have to de-register and then lose on it because of the spec and extras?

If somebody could offer advice on how much compensation in addition to a towball and/or how much of a problem is it for the dealer to try and resell the car?

Thanks in advance

If it's a leased vehicle how can you gain from any monetary compensation, surely that will go to the lease company. What has the leasing company said about it? I know very little about leasing but I would assume its their car and not yours until you settle up the contract at the end of the lease.

If you are able to gain monetary compensation then it should be the difference between them selling the car new and them selling it as a pre-registered car (which is what it will be if you refuse it and it is already registered to you) I would have thought this would be at least £3k.

I am getting some nasty clunking noises when driving very slowly and turning the steering e.g. parking. There is a bit of play in the steering but I guess what I am hearing is the noise of a worn steering rack. Maybe some one could confirm that for me.

My main concern is that I have to drive about 20 miles home on city and country roads would any body know if its safe to make a journey with this problem. The noise only started today although I have been aware of play in the steering for some time.... Read more

One of my engineers was involved in an accident on the A20 in Kent. He was turning left into a house entrance and was hit on the nearside by a car that was undertaking.

The road is (at that point) single carriageway, although it is around 6m wide. Perhaps 10m after the entrance the road widens to form a right lane filter and the main carriageway.... Read more

Ideally, if your driver stayed in the left lane, indicating left, until reaching the junction, and then slowing right down before swinging out, his intentions would have been more obvious, and the undertaker may have passed on the right, before the junction.

Hard to call unless one was there.
