hi people. what would you guys do

i was searching for a focus st. i found one at lookers/vauxhall when i went to view the car it had a private plate on. i spoke to the sales women we was both happy to do the deal. i put a deposit down on the 17/8/13 but i said to her what happens about the private plate. she said dont worry the guy who ownes the plates has allready sent the paper work of to dvla for retension. she said dont worry by the time you sign for the car we should have the paper work back from dvla to say what number plate goes on your new car then we can tax it at the same time.. so after a couple of days i phoned up asking if they have recieved the logbooks. they said not yet. but then she said dont worry if the worse comes to the worse you can drive of on them plates. so i thought ok lets sort out the finance. so on the 30/8/13 we brought the car financed signed for. i drove away with the st with lookers 5 days insurance. she said dont worry by the time your 5 days insurance is up we will have the logbooks. 5 days have past, still no logbooks. so i phoned my insurance up to take insurance out on the st. i insured the car on the private plates. i phoned up lookers/ vauxhall told them what ive done, they said thats fine. i asked them if theres any news on the paper work. she said she has spoken the the bloke and he has recived the paper work from dvla and when he gets chance he would drop them in to lookers. so i thought ok its only a matter of a couple of days now and ill have the original plate on my car.. couple of days past not heard anythink. this was getting me angry. so i said im phoning head office.phoned head office explained to the guy what the problem was with the plates. he said. let me have a look on the computer. he got the guys details on the screen he then said he lives 150 miles.away so ive been lied to all the time. so i said well he wont be dropping the paper work in. he then said give us till 12oclock tomorrow if we dont get the paper work in the post at 12oclock we will have to sort out plan b. i phoned next day guess what no paper work. he said plan b was to give me a courtesy car.he said i would advise you not to drive your st untill we recive the paper work from the guy. because his saying if the dvla has put his private plate on retension my st is not registerd. to that plate anymore. so im paying car insurance and car finance for a car i carnt use. what would you guys do. as no one nows how long its gunna be. sorry about the rabbling on and the bad grammer. am i entitled to ask for a like to like vehicle. or my money back. ive had the car over 2 weeks now. thanks liam Read more

Curiously, the tax disc, new MoT and 'authority to make up plate' that arrived today were post marked DVLA Beverley, presumably an outstation at one of the old regional offices.

Beverley was, IIRC, the County Town for the old East Riding.

My 940 has an intermittent fault, dodgy starting, then runs OK, until about 20 miles later it will start missing at 2500 revs, and the tacho misses also. If I can get up to 3000 it will sometimes be OK, but can cut the ignition completely, tacho to zero although the engine is still turning, if I lift off the throttle the engine fires up and the tacho comes up again. One hot day crawling about town it got so bad I couldn't get over about 1200 revs, had a job to get along, stopped for ten munutes and then back to what passes for normal, OK up to 2500 revs.I can cruise on light throttle openings but floor it and it misses/cuts out immediately. Not much fun towing a trailer uphill. Went to the main dealer diagnostic but nothing found, and now they won't respond to my phone calls. As you may imagine this is frustrating and I would scrap it if I hadn't just fitted a new clutch. Read more

for what its worth I removed the flywheel sensor, the insulation was badly degraded, the third uninsulated core exposed, and the white wire was kinked, it parted at the slightest pull. Temporarily repaired, new one coming, £35.

I do my own servicing too with genuine parts were possible. I know i can do a far better job than the main dealer and it costs a third of the dealer price.

The last time the Fiat dealer did my service they fitted the wrong sparkplugs but charged me the price of the considerably more expensive correct plugs.

Dimebag

Ive had a gap in my car insurance of about 3 years, i sold my car to buy a van but when insuring it they would not honour my no claims on the car so it started from scratch. Im still insured on the van (with another driver) but dont use it on a daily basis.

Does anyone know the best way to go about this, i just bought a reliable old banger for £300 and the insurance is either £180 with 10 years plus claims or £500 without!... Read more

they will restart where you left off, assuming no convictions etc in the mean time

Direct Line didn't do this for me! The operative could see my previous policy on his screen but confirmed that this would not be taken into consideration! "Now, have you had any convictions in the last five yuears...?" $%&~#

If an insurance claim is made within the manufacturers new car warranty period, the simplest stance would be to have the insurance repair carried out by a manufacturer-approved or main dealer bodyshop. You should minimise the chance of non-manufacturer parts being used, but at the end of the day, there is no way you can ensure that non-manufacturer parts are used in insurance repairs.

Hi all, had Landrover Discovery on rolling road couple of days ago, once it was taken off immediately the gear changes seem much more jumpy, is there anything that the driven rear or front wheels can damage inside of the transmission if the other set are stationary, the diff lock was not engaged.

thanks, mike. Read more

Ask a friend/family member who already drives to get insured on it for the day to get it back to yours.
I think when I went to get my first car my dad got insurance out on it for the day for something like £20.

My first car, a 2002 Vauxhall Corsa just died so I'm in need of a replacement. Even before it died I was searching for a new one but the situation has accelerated the need for a new car.

For my next car, I ideally would like to get a new or at least almost new condition car. It would mostly be used for town driving with the occasional motorway drive a handful of times a year. The mileage would be relatively low at around 5000 miles a year, on average less than 10 miles per day.... Read more

Have to agree with Barney above, but do you really have to have brand new? You can save yourself literally thousands by choosing nearly new, for example at my nearest car supermarket you can have an i20 Active 2013 reg for £7999 or a 2013 reg Fiesta 1.0 Turbo Zetec for under £11k. Think about it!
