I would like to help anyone having a problem with a 2.2dci bleedless hydraulic system with a low pedal. Usually with these the clutch gets replaced with a lot of life left in them which can make engaging gear even worse. As I found out! Renault dealers will tell you it cannot be bled and you will have to replace it at a cost of 300quid plus labour (5hours, because of dashboard removal!) I am NOT a mechanic and I had the dashboard out in well under an hour (its really only around the steering column, and glovebox removal), the clutch pedal still connected to the the master and hydraulic line (4 bolts and a rubber bung in the bulkhead) and the slave cylinder. (I dont know what the lads at Renault do but they dont do it very quickly!) The slave comes off with two easily got bolts and simply disconnect the hydraulic line (i used a screwdriver). Once the slave is in hand push the push rod into the slave, if it moves then there is air in there. Simply fill the connector with fluid and get screw driver and gently push down the outer black part, if it drinks it all repeat until the push rod is solid. You may need to gently work the push until all the air is out. Part 1 complete, do not put back on the car yet! The other part with with the pedal is more tricky but only because its easier with two people. I clampled the clutch pedal housing to a vice and fixed the male connector to a long stick with.... sellotape, because we need somewhere to put fluid a piece of rubber hose was put on the male connector and the the same process was repeated until I was confident I had expelled the air and there was no movement in the pedal. Well done you now have a lovely feeling clutch ( unless there is leaky seals). The hardest part of the job is the rubber bung ( do not give up or it will sound like a tank when driving!) Feed the male connector back through the bulkhead and attach to the slave BEFORE you mount the slave in place (the slave will engage the clutch a bit with enough pressure to stop you reconnecting the pipes!) Again... I found out! Rebuild dashboard and hopefully your ready to roll! I only used 1 flat scewdriver, one torx allen key, 1 small screwdriver (for the connector plungers) 1 13 spanner. Minimal fluid, a stick, some sellotape, a vice and a pice of rubber pipe! :0) Hope this helps anyone with the same problem. If I had to do it again I reckon I could in an hour and half with a couple brews in to boot. This job is quick and easy.... apart fron the rubber bung because if you get giddy poking it in with a scewdriver you could rupture an air con pipe attached to the bulkhead (renault technicians have done this, I didnt but I did have to take the dash out again to do it better!!) Yes... I swore a little bit but you dont learn if you dont do it wrong :0) Read more

You don't remove the structural part of the dash, only the coverings etc, so no need for special tool.

A bit late, the OP might have got the tool 7 years ago

I was looking into the reviews of the Mazda2 and one of the bad points states: ASM Module and gear actuators of automated manual prone to failure after 4 - 5 years and replacement likely to cost £1,500.

What is an ASM Module? and is the automated manual reffering to the Automatic version? Read more

i would guess that an ASM module is the automated shifter module .The car has an electronic robotised shift of what is basically a manual gearbox,so only 2 foot pedals. An automatic gearbox will be a CVT or torque converter type transmission.hth

You'll be fine to drive it.

although would be a lot cheaper to go to a motor factors or decent hardware outlet to get bolt rather than dealer....

Hi all,

I have a similar issue but with a 54 plate Corolla Verso. I have had the car for nearly a year, but suddenly both my reotes will not lock/unlock the car from where we have to park our car. It has worked OK since we bought it. The batteries test at just over 3 volts and I am not aware of any new WiFi transmitters etc....

Anyone else own one of these? I did have a Getz for three years in the noughties, the long warranty and the masses of equipment for the money swayed me, and this was generally trouble free until the warranty ended and the ECU failed. However, the I 20 carries on the good work of the Getz with the same warranty and masses of kit for reasonable money, but one I had as a courtesy car this summer and it seemed far more modern and better made than the Getz, in fact nearly on par with a Volkswagen. Also even in 1.2 litre form it was quiet and returned 48 mpg.

I have nearly been swayed by Dacia, see another post, but seemingly for all they are excellent value for money, the technology is old and it's likely to make up for the price of such a cheap car, I could get a poor trade in. Whereas I'm known to the Hyundai dealer, they offer a servicing plan on every used car( can't afford an I 20 new) and the customer care is good. Read more

Sounds like a good move. The new A-class seems to be just another hatchback - more expensive than a Golf or an A3 and from what I've read less good to drive. The old A-class suited a particular need, and I'm not sure if there's anything on the market now to match it.

I've recently moved to the wilds of Northumberland. The house is about a mile from the nearest village, which is then about 5 miles to the nearest town. Whichever way I go there is at least one hill of at least 1:6 to traverse, and most routes involve at least some open moorland, which apparently gets badly snowed under frequently.

My Peugeot 406 was an incredibly good snow car. It got up hills that Astras couldn't. Handled surfaces which binned Mercedes. Never got stuck even in 3ft of snow and started in -15c

In this scenario I'd just pick up the cheapest Grand Cherokee I could find with an MOT and reasonably new battery and pocket the rest. Job jobbed.

I notice these are growing in popularity due to their low purchase price and I visited the local dealer yesterday and had a look at a 1.2 Ambience model which had electric windows, central locking, CD player and all the safety features for £ 6800. Also the car was a lot bigger inside than my 58 plate Fiesta and seemed very well put together.

Normally I buy used cars for about £ 6000 and the one I have is well out of warranty and the bills are starting to mount at MOT and service time. Would it be worth buying a new Dacia with the Fiesta as a trade in as this would remove the worry of MOTs and repair bills for 3 years? Also does anyone else own the 1.2 model Sandero as on paper economy and peformance are acceptable for my needs?... Read more

A snag I noticed was you had to go right to the top of the range to get air-con, thus putting them in the same price range as the major manufacturers.

They don't even list A/C as an optional extra.

Wife intends ordering new Grand Vitara 5 door SZ5 auto in December. She is aware that a replacement model is due in 2015 but wants the current model. Cash deal with no part ex. Thanks for the responses to date FB & SM...

It has to be the Grand Vitara. She currently has the original 1998 version 2.5 V6 petrol auto which she has had from new and which I will 'inherit.! She prefers the conventional 4 speed torque convertor auto and being a low mileage user is OK with the low 20's MPG.
