If it was a Direct Debit, then you're home and dry!
Before you go to the bank look up details of the DD Guarantee scheme on t'internet and digest the salient points; Bank HAS to refund immediately solely on your say so.
Counter staff tried to get me to phone their Customer Care Centre (even offered me the Bank's phone to do it). When I pointed out they had to refund, the Manager came out and from then on it was plain sailing. Amount credited to my Account the next day.
TBH I only did it as an interesting exercise to see how the system worked (the money wasn't a great amount), and was pleasantly surprise how easy it was and that's with HSBC.
Am eagerly awaiting a communication from VM........."where's our money...."etc
(I also warned them I'd charge them £50 if they went ahead, so I'll be asking how they intend to pay!!)
