If there is an obstruction on a steep hill, the convention is that the vehicle coming uphill has priority, irrespective of which side of the road the obstruction is on. Does the same rule apply to trucks? Which is the bigger problem for HGVs-brake fade or clutch wear? Read more
Hi-has anyone else had this problems since the floods? Took car to garage and they appear not to have resolved the issue. Read more
if you have to tell the garage to check the sender unit , then best use another garage !

I need a car that can fit three child Seats. I have a new baby due in June and two children who will be six and four. I need to fit two booster seats with backs and an isofix base for a maxi cosy baby seat. I tried to fit all of these into my Seat Altea xl and they won't fit.
I would like to buy a second hand Diesel car with low emissions. Maybe two or three years old. It's got to be reliable I don't want to be pumping money into it in two or three years time. Any recommendations would be most welcome.

I always suspected that car sickness was invented by children wanting to sit in the front. I'm only bitter because I didn't think of it when I a bairn.
I've been considering buying a Corsa that was previously an ex police car. The dealer selling the car states that there is 6 months tax but no disc - does this mean I can purchase a duplicate tax disc from the post office for their admin charge or will I have to buy my own tax from scratch as the previous tax will only apply to a police car. Am I right in assuming that all police vehicles have free road tax so this will not be able to be used by the next private owner? Read more
(Sorry Tony G, but the used car trade does themselves no favours with tales like this. The dealer should be fully aware of the procedures required and not make misleading statements just to procure a sale.)
Bt ,couldn't agree more ,not something I would recommend .particularly as a dealer would be liable for a buyers costs of recovery from a compound etc ,when the car is seized.

Hi,
We are looking into buying a car for the Mother in Law and have found one that ticks all the boxes. However we have just found out that it has been imported from Japan as of April this year.... Read more
I did not know about the safety standards being different, so we have decided not to even go and look at the car. It's for my MIL and believe it or not, I quite like her, so I would feel awful if something happened.
We had no special reason for going for this one, it just ticked a lot of the boxes, but I am sure another will come along....
I have been looking around for an Accord recently and have come across a vehicle registered in late 2011. When I spoke to the dealership they stated that the car had never been used and was now available at a considerably reduced price. I am very tempted to go ahead as I believe that they will be very keen to sell it after all this time, but I wondered if anyone knew whether this kind of thing was a common occurrence.
Funnily enough I found another similar Accord a few months ago but pushed my luck too far in trying to get a cut price deal and ended up missing it. I am just a bit concerned that there is something about the Accord that is putting off potential buyers.... Read more

Although I was taught to use the gears to slow down, not the brakes, I soon took notice that brake shoes/pads were easier/cheaper to replace that clutch plates and started using the brakes - I do, of course, still use the gearbox on steep hills to avoid excessive use of the brakes.
