Most of us understand and accept that car speedos are over calibrated , so for example if it shows you are doing 70 mph, you are ' only ' going at say 66mph . This is to build in a margin of error so a manufacturer doesn't get sued if the driver relied on 100% accuracy.

Registered Jan 2011 and ISG has worked only 3 to 4 times over this period, Been back to the Hyundai dealer numerous times without any success. They do not seem to have an answer but put it down to the fact that the "state of health" of the battery falls below 94% which is the requirement for the ISG to work. As I have only done 10,600 miles in 2 years they are putting the blame down to me regardless of the fact that even after they fully charged a new bigger battery it only worked twice. I would like to hear from anyone who has or had the same problem and would like any advice on what my course of actions should be.

Agreed. My system works most effectively when it is above 10 degrees, aircon is off, it isn't dark or raining! With these parameters it activates within a couple of miles. Outisde of this perfect scenario it can take over 10 miles.
At 5,000 miles a year of the OP I wouldn't expect to see it working very often and it wouldn't make any difference anyway.
All the press seems to be about the insurance hike for young female drivers to make them compatible with the higher risk male group of similar age. Given that the risk for the females won't change are the insurance companies just cashing in?
I will always think it unfair but given they have to comply with the European ruling should the companies be adopting a middle ground and lowering premiums for males thereby reducing the increase for females?... Read more
But her preimium has always been lower!!!
Of course it is. You're the one doing 20,000 miles, she's in the passenger seat. She can't crash into anything from the passenger seat....
Well, its finally happened. After 13 and a half years of collision free bus driving, I was driving my bus this morning and came across a minor accident that was blocking the road. I pulled into the side of the road a short distance away whilst the two drivers exchanged details, and sat there with my hazard lights on to warn traffic approaching behind me. The two women had just started to move their cars when a Volvo came from the opposite direction and lost control on the icy road. He slammed into one of the cars, shunting it across the road straight into the front of my bus. A few second later, another woman approached and lost control in exactly the same manor, bouncing off the Peugeot that was embedded in my front bumper.
Fortunatley there were no injuries.... Read more
If they braked because you were stationary under RTA 88 you will be classed as being indirectly involved i.e. "owing to to the presence of a motor vehicle on a road an accident occurs ...etc" and because of damage to them and none to you there is a need to stop and report requirement under the Act.
You may wish to report matter to your Insurers to be on the safe side pointing out your indirect involvement.

Hello - any advice appreciated, new to all this! I was involved in an accident recently where I pulled out of a parking space and moved off down the road. A motorcycle saw me do this, braked to slow down and fell off his bike. I followed procedure and rang police gave my statement, they assured me all was fine. I informed my insurance company in case third party put in a claim and they were unconcerned as no collision. However, police now want to visit me at home and won't go into details about why. I am worried about being charged with something?? Can this happen even if there was no actual collision?? Thanks in anticipation! Read more
Hmmm - No comment !
Hi all, got a problem, the remote stopped working on the wifes sharan the other day so when I got home from work I changed the battery in the fob for her thinking this was easy and would no doubt get me a few brownie points. That bit was easy but now thw remote is not talking to the car and as we have only ever had one key all the resynch. methods seam to require 2 keys to work.
Can anyone shead any light on how I can do this at home and not have to take it to the main s******s for a reprogram.... Read more
Do you mean you now have a key that does not remote lock and will not start the car?
does anyone rememer a poster that had tried to buy a Honda Civic but had his doubts about the mileage and when he got a report on the car the mileage was double what it was advertised for sale at.
The poster posted a copy of the vehicle history as well.... Read more
Sorry - I've been around for eight years or so but can't remember it. (For some reason your thread appeared twice and I've deleted the duplicate.)
(Edit - thanks - now seen in the Motoring section and E-mails sent.)
I've sometimes thought I'd like a private plate. One in particular was available for about £1,000 twenty years ago. Last year it was advertised for £25,000. However, I don't really want my anonymousmobile to stand out so have never bought one. I do like the ones the discreet ones like RS 04 LDT. Most don't know that was bought as a private plate.... Beware what you do in a car with a private plate as they are well remembered...
.... So don't do anything that you may regret. The plate was so easy to remember, all five of us including my eight year old daughter remembered it 24 hours later....
The news is that the DVLA is considering abolishing the paper tax disc.
