I have often looked on HJ for reviews etc but never really looked in the back room. I have however been recommended to join up here to see if anyone can help with what seems like a slighly unusual problem with my E36, any suggestions/advice is much appreciated, here goes.

Car is a 1998 E36 323I with 120k on the clock, good history with alusil linered bores instead of the Nikasil liners found in older engines of this kind.... Read more

Is it possible to insist that my insurance company contests a personal injury claim? My wife was involved in a minor collision about a year ago. Wasn't even a rear end shunt. Since then we have had 10 or 12 calls asking us to make a claim, which we have refused to do. Now today we have been informed that the other party is claiming whiplash.

At the time there was no problem, when I phoned later with full insurance details, there appeared to be no problem. The police were not called nor an ambulance.... Read more

Cite the case Herman vs AAC 2012. Chap told the endless PPI callers that he'd charge for his wasted time (worked from home) and took the marketing company to the small claims court. The judge upheld his claim and the company had to cough up.

i am in the process of trying to get my money back on a mini that i purchased around a month ago, i traded my car in which was a belter but just fancied a changed (silly me).

When i took it for a test drive there was 5 miles of diesel left in the tank so the salesman said i can only take it round the block.

I drove it and and found it to be a nice drive, so when i picked up the vehicle there were a few bits a pieces that needed sorting. They did this but missed a couple of touch ups to paintwork, which they did.

A week later i noticed a knocking noise from rear passenger side got in touch and they looked at it, they had it a week changed the bushes and drop link but noise was still there, but when i went to pick the car up the customer service guy told me on the phone all was fine no noise!! i asked him if he would come out just to make sure he said he would. when i got there he just gave me the keys and said him and another cust service guy had been out in it they heard no noise.

Took it home heard the noise and back it went, in the mean time the front grill was half hanging off they fixed it or should i say botched it!!

they took it to mini dealer for the knocking and they looked at it fitted some bushes to the seat mount, still knocking noise. in the meantime i now have a grinding noise from my brakes, the 12v cigarette light comes out when you plug something in, There has been over spray on passenger side, rear bumper and overspray on the rear light cluster. The grill is now back as it was falling off.

They failed to tell me about the overspray on the light cluster but told me about the respray on passenger side.

the car has been in car peoples service bay than on my drive!!

The car is now sitting in the car peoples car park waiting for my next thrilling installment, They rung me yesterday and told me they will fix whats wrong with car, but i declined i asked for a refund and as a last resort a replacement vehicle, to which i got the reply of 'if you have a replacement car we will only give you trade value which will be substantially less than what i paid' This company is the worst i have ever dealt with and i have bought a lot of cars in my lifetime.

If some one said would i reccomend going to car people i would basically say, 'i would rather buy one off Arthur Daly'

Does anyone think i have a chance to get my money back?? Read more

So everthing built of aluminium is in danger of rotting away thats just about every engine head, gearbox, back axle ,I and many others have articles made from alumnium alloy that are older than me and I am a pensioner that are as good as the day they were bought. The whole advantage of Aluminium alloy is that they are light and surface corrode to protect itself and it lasts for just about ever.

Hi All, yesterday the heater fan wouldn't come on. It's climate control but can be overridden but nothing would make it work. After about 2 miles it kicked into life and has been ok since. Car had been standing for two days.

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand Impreza WRX STI at the moment. Does this mean anything for me in terms of what I can expect to pay when I buy? Should I be able to haggle some money of the price or get stuff thrown in if I go to a dealer with distribution stopping in the UK? Thanks Read more

Sadly, Subaru has become a dinosaur - the boxer engine and inline 4wd transmission gives it all it's excellent dynamics but makes it impossible to share components with other manufacturers so Subaru can never compete on price or volume. When the Impreza was at it's rallying pinnacle, the halo sales kept it going but now other manufacturers can do more for less on their WRC models. But without Impreza, Subaru is nothing - Legacy owners are fiercely loyal but so few in number - the XV, Forester and Outback are outclassed by every SUV/CUV out there, especially on fuel consumption - the BRZ is 2-3 decades too late. I'm glad I had a Subaru, before they depart this earth - a 2006 Outback but at replacement time it was matched in dynamics by a much heavier Hyundai Santa Fe - shows how much ground the competition has made up while Subaru stood still.

Had the car for three months with no problems. Went to start this morning and the problems started. Started fine but had a loud noise coming from the back seat then it cut out. Changed fuel pump and engine ticked over fine but any pressure on the accelerator it just cuts out. Now I'm lost. Checked the injector breather valve and let it run for about 20 mins. Idleing fine but the same problem. Any push on the gas pedal it just cuts out.

Update. Disconnected battery and left for 10 mins. Started engine back up and now it seem if its not running on all cylinders. Read more

Update. Have checked sensors and sprayed with wd40. Now cuts out straight away after starting. Also battery seems to have drained. At a dead end now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
