Right, now I don't mind bright headlights. I have bright headlights myself, I'm not one of those old men driving '96 Meganes complaining about DRL's and damned modern headlights, yearning for the day when we return to a lantern hanging off the front of the horse-drawn carraige.

However, considering we now have a rule which says any electric seat motor originally fitted to your car MUST be working to pass an MOT, I find it odd the powers that be haven't developed mechanisms to weed out all the dreadfully unbalanced and often illegal headlights on our roads. Those 100W high-intensity bulbs are actually not road legal in this country, but you can get them on Ebay for 27pence and they get through an MOT so long as they're not facing the sky.... Read more

When raining I am getting water leaking into the car that is dripping in around the top of the A post on the passenger side. It seems to be higher than the top of the windscreen so I'm wondering if there is a drain on the roof somewhere that amy be blocked. Can anyone help?

Broke a quarter light getting in, these must be one of the easiest cars to gain entry were you not a member of a motoring organistation.

my 02 ford fiesta tdci, keeps cutting out when i slow down to go round a corner. it seems to happen when its cold. ive had the car seviced and diesel filter changed. anlong with the maf sensor, cam sensor and fuel lines, there are no fault codes showing , its costing me a fortune at the garage .help Read more

Jerky slow-speed performance on my 1.4 Tdci was cleared after an MOT when the emission test blew the seat out of one of the injectors and the garage had to re-seat all the injectors. They found that the inlet manifold was heavily coked showing that the injector may have been leaking for some time. But - first try adding a dose of a good diesel additive - Miller's Diesel Eco-Max or Uniteddiesel.co.uk 's Diesel Rhino. That may, if you're lucky, clear the problem if it's being caused by a mucky injector, but if there is just a slight improvement, then that may point to you needing to replace injector seals. I'm tending towards an injector problem due to the absence of a fault code. (But I'm no trained mechanic! Just going off my own experience with this engine).

Is the tick-over steady or a bit hesitant? A steady tick-over sort of rules out the injectors.

Meant to say "pointing the pipe from the front of the car into a jar"

Last night I renewed my and my wifes' cars online with Axa at a very competitive rate. I filled all the forms out correctly and told that we both watned to drive each others cars for business use. I am a Chartered Surveyor, she works for the NHS and is mainly a housewife.

Everything went through smoothly and took our money. Checking the documents this morning my business cover is missing so I rang them up. ".....Sorry Sir, we don't insure Chartered Surveyors for business use....". They did me the 'favour' of refunding the premium without an admin charge!! I could have been driving unwittingly without insurance.... Read more

I have a citroen, that make a vibration at startup, and engine off. Everything else, driving, gearchange, etc is fine.

Could this be a sign of DMF failure. i.e when engine is up to idle speed all is ok, but there is a vibration as the engine is below idle (i.e startup / switch off). Does the DMF rotate all the time when the engine is running, or only when the clutch is engaged?... Read more

Peter.N.

Could be an engine mounting causing the problem. To check the DMF for wear drive at about 50-60 mph and gently lift off the throttle until you are neither driving or on overun, in that 'slack' position you may feel a vibration if the DMF is worn, try slightly accelerating and decelerarating see if you can feel anything, if not chances are that the DMF is OK..
