I bought the wife a 2006 Fabia 1.2 Sport in 1996 with only 300 miles on the clock. The name of Sport is a bit of a misnomer as its actually a sheep in wolves clothing with only the standard 3cyl 47kw 1.2 engine. Sport relates to lots of goodies such as leather steering and gear lever, alloys and chrome exhaust and a spoiler.

It was an ex Motability car and as new. Even the Skoda carpets were still in the boot unused. The local garage often gets Motability cars and his opinion was that the poor owner must have died.... Read more

I have found diesel VW group vehicles to be exceedingly accurate, though always a very small %age (2-4%) optimistic.

Hi all.

My partner currently drives a 56 plate Toyota Aygo that we have had for some time now. She has recently decided that she wants an automatic as she finds driving manuals quite stressful, and has decided automatic is the best way to go. I looked at trading her Aygo in for a MMT version of the same car or Yaris, however I have since read of the horror stories surrounding the MMT box. Can anyone recommend a good auto that is as cheap to run as an Aygo and costs between 5.5k and 6k?

Music to my ears, Meldrew! I don't really want to sell the Z3: it's still fun to drive as long as you accept that it's a grand tourer rather than a pure sports car - and it's a straight-six. I suppose I'd be tempted if I was offered £4,000+ for it.

I tried out Bravo just to be able to get some feedback for the forum.

Hi Back Roomers,

The accelerator cable on my Mk 2 Golf (1992 J-reg) has broken. My local mechanic has just informed me that VW stopped making these cables sometime in 2010! I know my car is getting on a bit, but I can usually get these kinds of parts and similar. I tried what was German & Swedish and the part number (192721555) doesn't appear on their system.... Hi All,

I need some genuine honest pointers please. I drive an 09 plate CLK and unfortunately every time my missus travels more than 3 miles she gets excruciating pain in her lower back.

As it is a company car I am not due a change for approx another 24 months so my thoughts were to buy a second hand comfortable second car. My budget is 5-6k. It will be used primarily for hacking about down to Tesco with perhaps 2 long distance drives per annum (Ireland).

My main requirementsis comfort so i am aiming at something with a large wheel base without a sports susoension. The follwowing are on mynshortlist. Please feelmfree to add to or comment on those below.

I've had all three;

Loved the Amazon. Really comfortable, loads of room to change positions and move around while driving to avoid aches and pains. Prone to back pain myself, never any trouble in the Amazon. Horribly expensive to run, and unltimately it becomes a bit of a pain to drive in confined spaces - small roads, towns, car parks etc....

11 days after a Main Dealer annual service including a Haldex coupling oil change (40,000 miles) the rear differential of my VW Golf R32 collapsed.

It was the first time I had driven the car after a 10 day holiday (apart from driving it home after the service) and it was about 50 miles into a journey on the M6. Prior to the failure there was a high pitched background noise which I had not noticed before.... Read more

How did you get on with the goodwill contribution? My wife was driving her Seat Altea Freetrack 4 (which uses the same Haldex 4wd system as the Golf). It was serviced at the end of August including Haldex oil change by a Seat Dealer. We went on holiday for 3 weeks, when we got back she drove the car which produced a high pitched whine then the rear diff seized and then broke. Sounds exactly the same to me. We are waiting for the whole bad news story on cost but the dealer was very quick to say that this couldn't have anything to do with the Haldex unit but it sames a strange co-incidence in a car that is just over 4 years old and has covered only 42,000 miles. Did they put enough fluid back into the Haldex unit or did this fail causing the rear diff to seize?

Hi, i have just bought a second hand car from a private seller just under a week ago now and did all of the usual checks such as HPI, VIN, asked for pictures of the current logbook supplying me with all the details i wanted and also obtained a picture of the VIN plate which matched to the log book. The HPI report came back all clear so everything appeard to be in place, so i went and bought the car drove it home no problem but last night i got pulled by the police to which they told me my car flagged up as STOLEN??? So he took all the details i could give him and told me that the car was not marked to be seized so i shouldn't worry because its somthing to do with surry police and the previous owner?
I went on to ask him what could happen as in if i could still have my car seized and he just said he didn't know which has really worried me.

The fact that the car wasn't seized there and then, is that a good sign?

I just really dont know what to do so any sort of advice would be great!

Thanks

Hi kris,
If it does turn out that your car is stolen ,you may be able to claim against HPI .
When I do HPI checks the fee includes an insurance up to £10k ,that reimburses me against a loss because the information that HPI supplied was incorrect .

It's possible you could recover the purchase price from HPI .However as DVD says its likely to be wrong info on the police national computer ,it's also possible that you're car has been involved in a cherished number transfer and the number that it currently is registered to ,has previously been on a car that's been stolen .
It may be that's where the problem originates .

There is a noticeable noise coming from, I think, under the engine bay / bulkhead area and it sounds like there is a hole in the exhaust. It is hard to describe the noise, I would say it sounds like the exhaust is blowing though.

If there is a hole, could it cause the engine to idle lumpy? Read more
