I am absolutely amazed(and so were they) that a local aftermarket service parts supplier was asked for pattern service parts for first service for a 2012 Korean car with a long 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. If there is a problem, the owner of this £25,000ish new car could possibly be told "No warranty" and no goodwill in the event of problems as no franchised dealer servicing,.

Invest £25grand and then not want to look after your investment? Lunacy or what?... Read more

Would like to know at start up, do I have to keep the engine running at idle for a while before moving? if so, how long.

On stopping do I need to keep the engine running for a while before turning off? How long.... Read more

If it is taking upwards of an hour to do 10 miles (15k), then I doubt that your turbo sees much heat anyway since you're going to be spednding much of your time idling. Even your motorway driving is pretty gentle; Turbo cool down is something to be aware of, but it mainly applies to petrols. A diesel is basically a huge air pump on overrun so as you slow down the turbo cools itself pretty quickly.

What a beautiful car. There was an article on this car in one of the classic car magazines (Octane?} a while back Read more

It's a Derby built Bentley 4-1/4 Litre, not a 4-1/2 Litre which was made at the old Cricklewood factory.

My Zafira (DY 10 PLATE full service history) temprature warning light came on when I was driving on the motorway and when I found a safe place to pull over close to an exit (had 4 kids in the car) I stopped the car.

The car would not start and so I contacted my vehicle recovery supplier who came and towed me to safety. Upon inspection they advised that my car needed to go to a garage. The garage then took a week to identify the problem and quoted information stored on a black box being provided to Vauxhall.... Your legal rights are solely against the selling dealer. Vauxhall's only involvement is to support their dealers - with no direct relationship with the customer.

You need to contact the dealer to get the full details and to see if you can determine why you didn't see a warning condition that occurred 756 miles before the terminal problem.

Can anyone advise me regarding a charge I recived at crown point retail point in leeds , I was in a minibus which takes up 2 spaces , the sign does say no buses or coaches , but I was going into comet and was there for about 3 mins , when I came back the excel parking guy had issued ticket , do I have to pay or is the ticket illegal , as when the retail centre was built I. Sure the landowner will have had to supply parking for shoppers , and I'm sure there will have been no vehicle restriction on the planning permission Read more

You parked a bus, having seen a sign that states "no buses" - why would you expect not to pay?

Last saturdays column included a reference to operation of a citroen handbrake and how it was operated by an electric motor.

So far as I know the motor vehicle construction and use regulations 1978 - regulation 13 -say that a handbrake may not use an hydraulic or electric mechanism to operate it.... Read more

Might be a similar arrangement to an HGV spring park brake. The brake (one for each park braked wheel) is applied by a powerful spring, and during non braking time is held off by air pressure. The brake is applied by reducing the air pressure, allowing a purely mechanical linkage to apply the brake. I guess that an electric park brake works in a similar way. Just a guess though !
