My 53 reg T2 seems to fire at randon on 3 cylinders and when this happens if i go over 3000 revs it loses power completely, I have to turn off ignition and restart, it goes fine after that for a while. When i go out in it 1st thing its fine but when i turn off engine and restart it only fires on 3 cylinders. It's been in 2 Toyota garages and numerous others but no fault can be found on the diagnostic machine. Any ideas anyone ? Read more
It is a petrol with 123000 on the clock, it has full service history and been serviced regularly.
I coil pack was renewed when i bought the car 18 months ago. The problem started about 6 months ago
an update for information only......so a global insurance company headquartered in switzerland has refused to pay out on the theft of my car.(value 6 figures)..quoting a technical defense of me not having any insurable interest on a car owned by my company, and so a void insurance.....this applies even where the company is owned solely by the insured, the car is the asset of the comapny and not the share-holder/partner or in the case of an llp,its member(s).
the battle is not yet lost, as the insurer provided insurance knowing of the vehicle's corporate ownership and private staus of the insurer, yet failed to disclose that the policy was technically worthlesss as in the event of a claim the insurer can fall back on this defense (google 'macaura' for details)....and yet ALL car insurance is placed in this fashion,so its back to the fos unless the cheque is forthcoming.... they dont like the fact that I rarely used the car due to the 'big freeze',
So they'd have been happier if you taken it out in entirely unsuitable conditions and almost inevitably, written it off? You were doing them a favour here by minimising risk....
A no cost way to reduce accidents and congestion on motorways, would be to have the matrix signs default to "KEEP LEFT WHEN NOT OVERTAKING". So many people sit in a trance in the middle or third lane, which encourages an understandable need to undertake. Simples Read more
But where there's a 3rd lane, drivers can use that. One normally thinks of a middle lane hog as someone going slower in front - but there's another type - the one who tailgates you for mile after mile but won't move over to lane 3 to pass you, even though they're driving a vehicle that's permitted to use lane 3.
The fact that there is a third lane is not in itself an excuse for poor lane discipline....

Petrol is probably the greatest source of benzene and most people of my generation inhaled bucket loads of it when you could afford to use it as a cleaning agent, I'm not suggesting its not harmful but we live in an age full of pollutants and they are certainly not doing us any good but in my 73 years I have inhaled many chemicals that are banned now and I am still quite healthy. I think there is a lot of scaremongering from people with bees in their bonnets. If you are permantly exposed to these things they are no doubt harmful but they affect different people differently, look at the effect of asbestos, I have lost two friends to asbestososis in recent years and yet before we were fully aware of the dangers people lives in asbestos houses, I have inhaled more than my share of it from brake linings etc over my lifetime but it hasn't affected me - yet.
Smoking must be one of the worst sources of polutants and although it kills many people, some don't seem to be affected although I certainly wouldn't do it....
I have been told that this engine has the option of NOT having a DPF. Can any of you good folk tell me if this is so as I have looked at the Citroen website but to no avail. Many thanks. Read more
Its only the pre '95, 2.0, 8 valve engines that don't have a DPF either in the 90 or 110 BHP mode, and they didn't use those in the C3 I don't believe.
Does anyone know of a reliable misfuelling device to avoid putting petrol into a diesel Xzara Picasso. The ones I have looked at don't do one for the Picasso. Read more
The best and cheapest two bits of kit I have ever come across are:
1. The eyes.
2. The nose.
1 looks at the colour of the bit you have in your hand and 2 tells you how the difference between the two smell.????
I was stopped by police for speeding ( which I admit 44 in a 40) they checked my licence which is issued by the Isle of Man. it seems that I had 12 months to transfer this licence once i became a UK resident. ( I accept that although I wasnt aware of this rule otherwise I would have done it). I have been charged with having no licence and no insurance BUT I do have insurance. I acceot that because the licence was invalid so was the insurance BUT my insurer was aware of my manx licence and had a copy of it sent to them 2 years ago, they had/ have no issues with it despite it obviously ( so it would seem) being an invalid. So for 2 years i have been paying insurance!! To add insult to injury I was informed by the officer that before I could drive again I would have to take a UK driving test. This has since proven to be incoreect ( two calls to DVLA for clarification, as the info he had was based on a consultation document rather than law, but thats a seperate issue I will take up with the the Police Authority).....anyway my question is this....if i call the insuracne company and ask them to refund me my premiums what is the likely outcome?> If i had have had an accident they would not have paid out but they have taken my money. Im not blaming the insuracne company for the offence that is/ was my responsibilty, but they have had a copy of my licence for two years and not a peep!
I find this a bit hard to follow! You say that your insurance company was aware of the Manx licence and were OK with it and you say you do/did have insurance so you have had cover and, on that basis can't have a refund. What you can do is cancel the policy and either be charged a fee for doing so and/or get a minimal refund (admin fees etc) SFAIK

You would be far better posting on the Caterham website or Pistonheads.
You are possibly the first Caterham Duratec poster I have seen on her....
