Can anyone advise me regarding a charge I recived at crown point retail point in leeds , I was in a minibus which takes up 2 spaces , the sign does say no buses or coaches , but I was going into comet and was there for about 3 mins , when I came back the excel parking guy had issued ticket , do I have to pay or is the ticket illegal , as when the retail centre was built I. Sure the landowner will have had to supply parking for shoppers , and I'm sure there will have been no vehicle restriction on the planning permission Read more

You parked a bus, having seen a sign that states "no buses" - why would you expect not to pay?

Last saturdays column included a reference to operation of a citroen handbrake and how it was operated by an electric motor.

So far as I know the motor vehicle construction and use regulations 1978 - regulation 13 -say that a handbrake may not use an hydraulic or electric mechanism to operate it.... Read more

Might be a similar arrangement to an HGV spring park brake. The brake (one for each park braked wheel) is applied by a powerful spring, and during non braking time is held off by air pressure. The brake is applied by reducing the air pressure, allowing a purely mechanical linkage to apply the brake. I guess that an electric park brake works in a similar way. Just a guess though !

My garage recharged my aircon system for £70. They said it would take a few days to work through. Nothing changed so I took it back. They then said it had a leaking pipe and the air compressor wasn't working. They said thye couldnt have know these faults existed at the time they recharged the gas. Is this correct or should they have spotted these faults at the time they were recharging? I am now £70 out of pocket and been quoted £1300 to repair it all. Has anyone else experienced this? Are they right or am I being conned? Read more

The left rear fog light, tail light, parking light does not work on my focus. I have cahnged bulbs but still no joy. Is this a wiring fault? fuse fault or is this done on purpose as we drive on the left in the UK? Read more

I'm pretty sure the first Focus didn't have a foglight on the rear passenger side.

Hi,
I have just purchased a used Chevrolet captiva and am due to pick it up on Thursday. Today I popped over to the dealership to sign paperwork and whist waiting about I went and sat in the car. Both my partner and I were immediately overcome by a strange odour, we later identified this smell as rabbit urine ( ex owner had used the car to ferry her pets about to shows). We relayed our concerns to the sales rep and were assured the car would be valeted.
However when we got home the smell was still noticeable on our clothes. As our concerns were raised we have spent the evening researching he subject on the Internet, it appears this could escalate to quite a serious issue unless the car is thoroughly cleaned, some forums even indicate all seats should be deep cleaned by specialist. At this point I have no reason to believe ht the dealer will not action this but I am a little concerned that car could be valeted and air freshner used to mask the smell, research indicates that the smell is very likely to return. What course of action should I take to ensure the dealership will take full responsibility for this issue. I' m worried if I drive the car away it becomes my problem.
Advice greatly appreciatated, thanks for taking the time to read this. Read more

It wasn't on intial inspection, it apperas the hot weather over the last few days and the fact they closed the doors and rear boot when sold contributed to the smell. I am currently waiting for the sales manager to call me back. I am hopeful we can come to some resolution.

The current Mazda2 is in your price range. Good to drive, and suprisingly spacious (parents have got one and took it to Spain and back last year).

It also fits in their garage....
