I will be leaving my car (06 Colt CZ1) for about ten weeks. Could anyone give me some advice as to diconnecting battery. Read more

Disconnecting the battery will be your best option. Most cars place a small drain on the battery 24hrs a day, so if you disconnect it there will be no drain at all.

It will then be down to how good your battery is at retaining its charge....

so not allowed to name and shame a manufacturer or their main dealer who did not have a filter in stock when i wanted one when the car had been booked in for the service, they knew it needed this bit, and because they hadn't got one didn't fit it, but charged the same labour for the service? Told me i needed new tyres, (not necessary) and new brake pads all round) (another Garage near by told my husband tyres and brakes all ok!) when i complained about the oil on my drive and took the car back they said it was due to a small hole!!! Is it because ima woman? have written a stinking letter to both. Read more

just a little update for all you doubters, I have had a response after 5 weeks that my letter is being looked into, and I have been asked to allow a few days to get to the bottom of this, so I will allow them that courtesy. There has been an acknowledgement that there were issues.

No FM2R II

I had one of these and that fault - it was the failure of the electronic module which prevents you shifting without your foot on the brake.

You need it replaced/repaired (I have a feeling it was a known fault at the time), but I'm sure there was a work around by lifting the rubber boot around the shift and prodding it with a biro or similar....

Don't know what system your car uses but if it has aircon probably electronic, the most likely cause is a failed servo motor. Whether its a DIY job or not depends how easy it is to get to, easy enough to change, usually a couple of screws and a plug.

If it has a mechanical system probably a broken or disconnected cable.

is it really normal for a car that does no more than 7,000 miles a year to need a full set of tyres EVERY yearly service?

Yet again my dads car supposedly needs brand new tyres "as they are on the legal limit". I cant help feeling that the garage are taking the mick (especially when they want to charge over £180 per tyre). When challenged this year (when they were reminded that the tyres are a year old and have done no more than 7000 miles) they have come out with an excuse of "tyre Stepping" . What does this actually mean??? Read more

Swap my tyres front to rear every year but never side to side which can accelerate wear as the tyre gets used to rotating the opposite way. Many tyres are directional thus cannot be changed side to side anyway.
