I fitted a aftermarket stereo to a Astra last nite. The stereo works. But the car has no acceleration or power steering and the check engine light is on. I used a wiring harness and hav checked all my wiring. I checked all the relays and fuses and they wer all good. Just wondering if som1 can help me ASAP

The connection ( pardon the pun) could be related to the speed sensor wire ! originally wired to the genuine radio to incraese the radio volume as the car goes faster !

I have seen many cars whetre if this is earth or a power supply added it causes monumental problems ! normally flat spots or severee hesitation and loss of power....

I was driving my car close to home when a Stop, Check Coolant warning light appeared. I arrived home ok. When the engine cooled down i checked the coolant level on the expansion tank and the coolant level was just below Min. I filled the coolant to just below the Max.I took the car for a drive until the engine reached its normal driving temperature and when the car reached 10 miles the Stop, Check Coolant warning light appeared. I stopped the car and checked the coolant expansion tank and it was still just below Max. I checked around the engine and the rubber hoses for any water leaking and i could not find any water leaks. The engine has always stayed at normal driving temperature. The only thing that i can think of is maybe there is an airlock somewhere in the radiator system as the coolant level was below Min before i topped it up. Any help would be great as my car knowledge is minimal. Thanks. Read more

Could not get my extra fix of HJ's opinions today, No HJ in the motoring section! Read more

If you're in need of this kind of 'fix', there are lots of Qs and As in the Ask HJ section of this site.

There's a wealth of information on here, and for anyone who has joined us recently, do have a good look round if you haven't already.

I have posted before about clutch/DMF issues on the Focus 1.8 TDCi. I have recently bought one, 2009 with 134k. I decided that given the high mileage and a rattling sound that it would be prudent to change the clutch, DMF, slave cylinder and gearbox oil (as the car is young and in overall very good condition).

Having shelled out for the job, I was disappointed to find there's still a noticeable rattle when you stop the engine, right as it comes to a halt. Might be a bit on startup but harder to hear. I just want to check if this is normal for this model. I listened to a friend's 2.0 TDCi and couldn't hear it, but that may be a different setup?

From what I've read, it could be the auxillary drive belt tensioner, i.e. unrelated to the clutch/DMF.

There also seems to be some 'play' in the drive, so if you put your foot on and off the accelerator esp in first gear it jerks (I realise this is to be expected to an extent but I can feel quite a bit of play). It seems to be slightly worse than before I had the DMF/clutch changed. Maybe this is just normal too!

Obviously I want to go back to the garage asap if the above behaviour is not normal... Read more

My eyes keep being drawn to new Lexus GS on the right of the page, and watering.

Whats happening at Toyota, who on earth authorised that accessory shop sale special front skirt to be fitted to that fine car, the grill treatment is little better...are they trying desperately to better Audi in the who can make the most horrible looking car competition.... Read more

What I'm really looking for is something of the size of the TT or Scirocco. I actually liked the look and performance of the Honda Integra - not the hot 196bhp Type R imported from Japan, but the "softer" 160bhp Type S which appeared to be sold in the US & Canada (as the Acura RSX) a few years ago

I'm afraid you're at the mercy of the marketing men - I see American versions of Honda's and Japanese cars that would appeal to me but are not sold here. Toyota Caldina estate for example.

Max the Dog

Hello all, first time poster.
I wonder if anybody can offer advice please.
I have some limited experience in Car Sales and very much wish to further
a career in the trade.
(Yes, i'm well aware its a tough game with long hours but I know its what I want to do. ;-) )

Unfortunately openings for people with little experience are few and far between. Most Dealerships appear to want experienced sellers only.

Anyway, my question is, are there Training Courses available that I can take that are Industry recognised?

I'd appreciate any pointers. Read more

Thanks for the pointers guys.

My mother is 80, has heart, back and walking problems and so has a blue badge.

Recently we parked in a disabled bay, it was 5pm and our car was the only one on the street, walked away from the car and two minutes later realized that we had forgotten to display the blue badge. So I walked back to the car and a traffic warden on a motorbike had arrived and was already issuing a ticket.... Read more

Appeal it - but accept that you did technically contravene the regulations and so should accept any eventual penalty gracefully.

As the traffic warden took the photos AFTER the Blue Badge had been put in place, there is a lack of evidence, ie there's only his word and your explanation....

Hi Everyone (My first post into Honest John).

Steel wheels are rare these days so often MORE expensive than alloys - so don't just consider steels.
