Ok i was screwing my lucas pump and i made the mistake of using the allen key with the ball on the end and it snapped of inside the pump i cudnt get it out, so i took the car for a spin and by luck i took the plastic cap of again and it was sitting there so i took it out. but now my car wont idle properly and its putting out white smoke was this because of the allen key bit or something else.? You went for a drive with a part of the allen key inside your fuel pump!?
Probably knackered something inside the pump, not sure if it could have wrecked the timing? Is it down on power?

The near side and off side front rubber gaiters nedd replacing. How long would a garage need to replace them both and roughly how long is the job to complete. Or is it a straight forward DIY job ?
best regards... Read more
I take it you are referring to the CV joint gaitors. Its not to bad a DIY job if you have some decent tools, you need a large socket to remove the drive shaft nut and a ball joint seperator to disconnect the lower suspension arm.
I would think a decent garage would be able to do both sides in less than a couple of hours so its all down to their hourly rate really, the gaitors are not very expensive.
quote...."The automatic Amarok comes with an engine stop/start system as part of Volkswagen's fuel-saving BlueMotion Technology. A first for a pick-up and still pretty rare on many automatic passenger cars. It's a fairly intrusive system and quick to restart too. The Amarok also get regenerative barking and low rolling resistance tyres which helps improve fuel economy - it averages a claimed 37.2mpg and emits 199g/km - better figures than the 2.0 BiTDI 163PS Amarok with a manual gearbox.".....

hi ive changed the cylinder head on my bora tdi as the old tensioner pulley failed which resulted in a slipped belt and a few bent valves. I brought a second hand head and fitted it along with a full cambelt kit and a new belt damper etc. Its all back together but it just wont fire. when i turn it over it seems to drain the fuel from the filter. if i put some easy start down it does start but then stops obviously when the easy start runs out. iv read somewhere that i will need to put the injectors out of the other head into the replacement one. is this right ?? my friend has the snap on solus, can i re code the injectors thats in it off that ??? can anyone point me in the right direction ??? Which injectors were fitted the originals with the engine or the originals with the head?
Our Rover V6 I think (looks like a Jag) has been with a recommended garage for 9 weeks to get a new engine fitted. The garage initially said it would take 1.5 days. I thought a week but certainly not 9 weeks. My partner and I have visited every week and rang this garage, who do not return many calls hence the need to visit. He just comes up with various exscuses as to why it is not ready. The car was supposed to be ready last Thursday and the garage asked us to ring at 5pm which we did and they said they were just finishing it and would ring us back, they did not. I went round to the garage Friday and it was closed, we were not told they would close Friday. I rang landline, mobile and left urgent probably quite rude messages and also sent a text asking for an urgent call, none of which were answered. We are totally fed up as you can imagine and it is causing a lot of stress and inconvenience for my partner who works a good few miles away. I am now wanting to visit in the morning and give an ultimatum to the garage to have the car ready by Thursday 5pm otherwise I want the car back, whatever condition and will get towed to a local (my garage tried and trusted) to complete. Anybody had anything like this happen to them before. Where is the best place to organise a tow that will not cost the earth. Legally what do we pay him for the work done so far. Car is not working as yet. Any help before tomorrow morning greatly apprecaited. Thanks Rebecca Read more
Oh I scincerley hope its not one of these cheap engine centres ?
if its is I feel we are wasting our time ? why on earth not use your trusted garage ? where they slightly dearer ? bet ist cost more now though being off the road....

In The Sun there is an attack on the use of some cars provided by the nhs scheme under the salary sacrifice scheme. If swmbo uses this scheme she loses salary, still pays BIK so the taxpayer is no worse off, she does not have a car presently, so if the hospital want to send her elsewhere for consultations they do not have pool cars so have to pay for taxis! I do wish the headline grabbers would consider this, and also consider the lower grade staff who are poorly re-imbursed for their essential use. we have given up using my car to take her to anywhere as the costs are no longer covered. Sounds more like water pump / hose / rad / usual cooling system suspects than head gasket. I'd be looking for the source of that leak before suspecting anything serious....

Police say its fine - keep it sell it do what I like with it, they have confirmed that it is a legitimate car and confirmed I will not be liable once sold.
