Hi my family are considering buying a SEAT Altea S TDi on motability. I owned a SEAT Ibiza SDi ten years ago which was very economical and mechanically solid, but the build quality was poor. I gather the quality on newer SEATs is a lot better and are the cars still mechanically good. Also the dealership is family run and has a good reputation, which is swaying it for the family. I just bought a golf a few days ago and noticed a light on it which i thought was the oil light as it is shaped like a tap (in my opinion anyway) and it says check. I was told not to worry about the light from the lady i bought it from that it stays on constantly but i am wondering will it fail the MOT for the light being on.
Iv looked in the manual and it says that this is the emissions warning light. It is staying on constantly and is a yellow colour. the car does seem fine, it starts perfectly and drives well and there is no weird noises, can anyone help me decipher what the problem would be or decide if the car will fail MOT for the light being on. Its probably just the free play in the bearing allowing the disc to move slightly, I wouldn't worry about it if it drives OK.
Can someone explain why every now and then when I click on a thread I get re-directed to the RSPB's website?
It doesnt happen all the time, only very occasionally. Read more
Happens to me occasionally as well RSPB, Pizza and sometimes insurance.
It's associated with the site's advertising. Either a pop up/under or an inadvertent click on a side bar ad feed.
I got an engine management light recently and the car lacks power sometimes and feels as if the engine is holding itself back under acceleration, only when the engine is hot. It will not rev above about 3800 RPM, and seems as if it is hitting a limiter.
It is sometimes hard to start the engine aswell when it is hot. Starts fine when cold.... Read more

I need a it of advice.
A guy drove intio my wifes car today ( no one hurt) but he came out of a give way, and wallop.
He immedialtely admitted liability and gave all insurance details etc.
We let our insurance company know and they passed us on to their specialist claims handling company who want to sort it all out for us including a hire car.
Meanwhile the "guilty" partys insurance company have left a message on our answer machine offering us a free car hire and to have our car fixed up.................
Do we go with our own insurers claims company or the other one??
All advice appreciated Read more
car looks deffo like a write off

I think your last sentence is important. SEATs are the same mechanically as VW, Audi and Skoda, so no worries on that score: you don't see many Alteas about as most people wanting a cheaper VW will go for an Octavia, which you can also consider.
Skoda dealers are also mostly family-run, but if your SEAT dealer is local and you like the Altea, go for it. The XL version is probably worth the extra.
