Anybody know of an insurance company that will put a vehicle insurance 'on suspension', ie the vehicle is off the road on a SORN and therefore there is no road use risk. If you lay something up for 6 months it could be an appreciable amount. If you cancel insurance the amount you get back is derisory and it affect the next quote as you have not had 'continuous' insurance cover.
In America suspension is a regular occurrence AND if you cancel you get back the per diem rate in full!... Read more
We are being ripped off big time. Bikerbill
Not always - using something like google for 'laid up insurance' brings up most of the big names supplying what you seem to want??
A particular warning light that depicts a car skidding or probably wobbling keeps coming up on my peugeot 406 (1996 model). It usually comes on at around speed of 30miles/ph and it might stay on throughout my journey or go off later. ps what could be the cause? Read more

Answered my own problem I downloaded a facility called touchfreeze and this seems to have solved the problem apparantly its quite common.
I have just bought a Focus with 16" alloys that have had absolutely no TLC and need refurbishing. Rather than go to that expense I am wondering if it will be possible to buy wheels trims that will fit or can be adapted to fit.
Any help gratefully received Read more
Probably fairly easy to find a replacement set of wheels for it. If placcy trims are Ok by you, a set of tin wheels and trims should be cheap enough secondhand.
Try keeping an eye on eBay......
I have an 06 Vauxhall Meriva VXR with 57k on the clock. I have a problem where ifI use more than 75% accelerator then a get a vibration resonating through the car, it appears to be coming from the engine bay. Both Vauxhall and an independent garage have had a look at the car and can find nothing obvious as to the cause. all engine mounts, CV joints etc appear to be fine. Also linked to this when accelerating and turning right (only right doesn't happen if turning left) i get a knocking/rattling noise as if something is loose in the engine bay. again neither garage can find anything obvious? i am at a loss as to what it could be or where to start ...... I would suggest that you have insufficient clearance between the engine/gearbox and the body, when you accelerate the engine twists on its mountings, the harder you accelerate the further it twists, it could also be the exhaust as that moves with the engine. If a visual inspection doesn't reveal anything try levering hard on the engine with it ticking over and see if you can reproduce the vibration. If its worse when turning right, that would displace the engine toward the left so try pushing in that direction first.
My Dad wants to buy a left hand drive car, and export it to Morocco. As all the LHD's in the UK, seem pretty high, we're looking at buying used from Europe.
Does anyone know the best way to go about this??... Read more
Transit plates allow you to travel anywhere in the EU for three days if you wish to take out of the EU then you will have to transport it.
Even taking into account the strong exchange rate the second hand car prices in Germany are astronomical there is a massive export business with secondhand cars being exported to all African states plus the eastern states this keeps the price high.Probably better to buy in Morocco if LHD is essential....
Anyone out there Run a Toyota Avensis 1.8 VMATIC 2010\2011 Petrol

Have just traded my trusty 2003 2.4 Honda Accord in for the 1.8 cvt Avensis Tourer. So far am very pleased with it, even more comfortable than the Accord and much quieter. It's too early to tell what the fuel consumption will be as I'm still playing with it.
Did a lot of research before buying as I didn't want a DSG or other type of dual clutch auto. The pundits all agree it's a solid buy and no major issue since it came out in 2007. I expect to get around 38 to 40 mpg when I settle down and drive sensibly. With the manual you should be around the 40mpg mark and with a low emission figure to keep the tax down too why would you want the more expensive diesel?
The TR has all the bits you're likely to need and as you say are excellent value for money with a 5 year 100,000 mile and extendable manufacturers warranty.
It would seem Toyota UK have recently released a batch of 60/61 plate TR Tourers to the dealers so there is plenty of choice too.
My only gripe so far is the positioning of the electronic parking brake, I like to sit well back which means I have to lean forward to use it. As someone who always used the handbrake when stationary at traffic lights or in stationary traffic I do find it annoying but it's early days and I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.
Hi. I have obtained a 04 plate vehicle for my daughter. Happy about service bills, but there is no service detail so I don't know anything about service intervals, items to be replaced etc. Does anyone know how I could obtain this information please. The vehicle is a Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9 CDTI. Any advice will be gratefully received. Colin S Read more
Thanks balleballe. I have many bills , mot's and service receipts from the supplying garage, but what I am missing is detail of the service requirements and intervals as the service document itself is not with the vehicle. cheers colin s

Good plan.. Thanks!
