My beloved car is selling and ending today on ebay. I have never sold privately before, but it's 14 years old and has a leaky radiator which I have put on the listing, so knew it wasn't worth going to a dealer/garage. I was advised by my mechanic to meet the buyer a few streets away from my house so they don't where I live? I'm not selling anything dodgy, but so I don't have people trying it on he said.
- Do I give them all the old MOT's and current one?
- What do I do with the V5
- Is it normal for them to want to test drive it when they have bought off ebay
- Do I ring my insurance the minute they have gone to cancel, as it's a sunday
- Who do I notify once I've sold the car?
- I printed off a which pdf that has sections for addresses etc, and a box for them to tick as sold as seen and a box for both of our signatures, should I get them to do this?
- Is there anything else I should do? I'm nervous about meeting a stranger to be given cash and go on a test drive
Thanks for any advice:) Read more
I just sold a car, and I used the PDF reciept form from What Car, which is handy, I also got the guy buying to hand over cash at my local bank branch, it went straight into my bank, went back to mine to sign over the documents. Made two receipts, and took a copy on my printer of the V5 before I sent it off.
I'd never take a cashiers cheque or bankers draft, too easily faked unless you go to their branch and see them draw it. Or ask them to do an instant bank transfer (CHAPS) into your bank, if they're genuine, they should be find doing any of the above.

As PeterN said you need the codes reading, preferably with a Lexia. With the HDi engine the injectors won't even inject fuel unless a certain pressure is reached in the common rail.
Steve.
Hi have noticed this a few times but after longer journeys when stopped at lights white smoke comes through the air vents and a smell of burning. It disperses when I drive off. Could this be a valve cover gasket although I can see any oil leaks... Any ideas would be a great help. The engine is not over heating and I can't see any coolant leaks. Read more
Thanks for this thats excalty what it was
Good morning
My parents have owned the Civic Hybrid (58) since 2009 and my father yesterday contacted me saying that he is thinking of part exchanging it for a used 2010 model with a cost to change of 9k which I thought was quite a lot and uneccessary. They love the car by virtue of the fact the road tax is cheap but to be fair they can't drive in the manner that favours hybrid driving. I secretly set the av MPG to zero when i visit them before toggling the display so it reads total mileage. When I visit a month later I check what mpg they have been getting. Never more than 40mpg. When I get the chance to drive it i get close to 60. ... Read more
Good choice, thanks for updating, always nice to hear back.
Just wondering if anybody knows if there should be any play on the clutch plate when twisted? I'm in the middle of changing the clutch on my 206 (not recommended to anybody btw) and the actual clutch plate has about 3-4 inches of movement on it where it's attached to the flywheel. I know the flywheel has springs in it, but I have no idea how tight they're supposed to be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :) Read more

Hello
Thanks for all of the feedback!!!...
Just removed and replaced the rack from my wifes 306 X reg. Didn't drop the sub frame but DID manage to remove with jiggery pockery!
The 'trick' is to take off both track rod ends, pinch the steering fliud pipes off at the reservoir and persuade the heat shield free and out up over the top pf the engine. Unbolt the rack/pipes etc., Then lying flat on your back (wear goggles) feet out under the radiator, unbolt and unclip the steering rod universal, take away safety clip - now for the fun bit -... Did a similar thing with a Citroen XM but I think it might have been easier to at least drop one side of the subframe.
This summer I'm hoping to take my car on one last long trip before I change it for something else. We're looking to drive into France and I have read all the threads about what is now law etc and all the bits and bobs I will need to have with me. This info has been somewhat bitty so I've made a list. Have I missed anything? I have never driven in France before.....
1. Driving licence (both bits)... Read more
Hi. The diesel fuel pump has apparently given up the ghost. Cost of new pump is £1725 + VAT. Cost of recon one is £420 (from RSC Eurpose Ltd). Labour estimate is about £1200 + VAT as engine has to be removed. Does all this sound reasonable? Would it be best to go for the new pump (or are they recon units anyway?) Vehicle is currently with a firm that specialises in diesels. Any observations or guidance would be much appreciated. Read more
This has the same Isuzu engine as fitted to the Vectra and saab.On these the fuel inlet metering valve would give trouble but could be replaced as a seperate part for around £200+labour.As you have found out ,the labour to replace the pump is disgraceful,so wold you want to fit a recon unit?Who pays if it packs up after 6 months.New high pressure injector pipes will also need to be replaced if system has been contaminated through pump disintegration.hth
