Hello all.
I will be looking for a car in the next few weeks but have a very limited budget of under £500.... Read more
I just found a thread about these in the archive, but it's read only or I would reply to that. So I thought I would start a new thread about them. I have a good few from the 1970s and 80s on my website, so if anybody wants to copy them and print them out feel free to do so. They are at www.a2ecommercials.webs.com go there and click on A2E Reference then tax discs. If anybody wants a particular year, post here or email me. Read more
I don't supply anything after the 1990s so I don't have tax discs for the 2000s. As far as I know, as long as you have the current disc on display (on the public road) you can put as amny other out of date things on the windscreen as long as it doesn't obscure the driver's veiw. The old discs tend to be copied for show use.
The latest Buzz is about cars that drive themselves, a topic that surfaces every
several years when a manufacturer shows a train of cars driving in a line and... Read more
It would make sense on motorways because vehicles could (theoretically) be closely bunched and take advantage of the slipstream effect which is the dominant factor in high speed fuel consumption. However, there are big problems with liability (the OEMs won't be interested in being liable for accidents over the lifetime of the car). Then there's the difficulty of driverless cars predicting the movements of human operated cars.
But the biggest hurdle is that drivers do not want to give up control of the car. Couples argue endlessly over whose turn it is to drive and the only time anyone wants to be a passenger is on the way back from a party....
I read a lot about "Cruise Control" and that it increases fuel consumption.... Read more
My Megane III has the identical system. Cruise control will definitely increase fuel consumption due to maintaining speed on an uphill section, also if disengaged in traffic then re-engaged it accelerates a sight harder than I would normally. The speed limiter doesn't increase consumption because it cuts the fuel regardless of the positon of the accelerator pedal. As you say, there's no override via the pedal, which would rather defeat the object. Easy enough to flick it off though if you really want to risk a quick burst!
Just blead the brakes on my (2003) B5.5 estate and now they lack bite and have more pedal travel. The first push of the pedal is spongy, and on the second it does bite. Before the blead, the brakes were sharp, requiring less push of the pedal before they bit.
I blead them manually ie without a pressure bleeder, kept the resevoir topped-up at all times, using fresh DOT 4, in the following sequence (as stated by ELSA) - passenger rear>driver rear>passenger front>driver front.
The passenger-front caliper had quite a bit of air come out, so took longer to blead than the other 3 calipers, but we did clear all the air.
For the actual bleading of each caliper, first pumped-up the brake pedal several times to build pressure, then with the pressed pedal down, undid the blead nipple to release the fluid, then closed it/released pedal and so on. Each caliper had at around 5 'pumps' of the pedal (other than the passenger-front which took more to clear out the air).
So what have I done wrong? I didn't think the ABS pump needed actuating (via VCDS) as part of a normal bleed, so am at a loss..... Read more
Do you think I'll also have to bleed the ABS pump (with VAG-COM), if (as it may seem) I've let air in to the system?
Beyond my knowledge i'm afraid, sorry....

The NX is actually quite cute.
I was tempted by a Nissan 300ZX last year and it was really reasonable (needed a few repairs which I was going to do myself), but I ended up having to put my money elsewhere unfortunately.
last tuesday i part exchanged my nissan 100nx for a skoda felicia. i wanted a smaller engine car to try and save some money.
i noticed the sunroof had tape around it the dealer said there wasn't a problem. since then it has rained and the drivers side floor has become wet. i rang him and he said i need to put some mastic around the seal to cure it.... Read more
25 quid for a secondhand alternator and half an hour to fit what more do you want ,the car is not worth any more than 100ukps with a 12 ticket.
Bought car 2 years ago have got 38.000 mls on the clock and the torque cnvertor has just gone bang rsng dealershipetc and fords {youve had the car 5yrs its out of warranty}, was the robotic reply, how can i get fords to understand that it hasnt lasted as long as i thought it should under the sale of goods act. It seems that people who buy japanese cars etc all have goodwill payments from them out of warranty {we could nor possibly comment on other manufacturers problems} Read more
Before you get to starting stalls answer this has the car got full Ford service history even under the sales of goods act you would not be entitled to full repair costs,I would find a local company that reconditions auto boxes and get it fixed.
You bought a 3 year old Ford 2 years ago and now its broken. Why be suprised, cars break, its a known fact. Should the maker/dealer repair it, no they shouldn't. Pay up yourself, no such thing as a free lunch, you cannot expect free repairs on a 5 year old Ford or any car unless it has a specific longer warranty.
My wife has an old Audi 80 TDi that we would like to keep for just another six months or so.
It has been in the family since new with 100,200. miles on the clock.... Read more

I must admit we halways have few vehicles ready to roll for a few reasons - in 2002 we bought a 1994 LHD BMW316 with 100ishK (62k miles ) on the clock. There have been occasions that this has done 0 -100miles between MOT's but has NEVER cost us anything between MOT's between 2006 and now. We are now on 265,000k's. It has got us out of holes, lent it to staff to use whilst between vehicles etc. I have never owned a cheaper vehicle over the years. I also employ a few guys who would rather spend 1000-1500£ on an old A8, 735 etc for a year or two just for the fun of itt - only epsensive bits are tyres, pads maybe and if it breaks down then split it for spares. Far more fun in that bracket than Escort estates and if bought correctly then more reliable and well built as well.
