OK well it's an old one 2002 but it was a gift ! MOT yesterday showed signs of oil leaks around rear shocks. I'm wondering if it's feasible if I do have the shocks changed, how sensible it would be to have adjustable ride shock absorbers fitted to render the suspension a bit more like a Citroen so that it rides a bit more smoothly over bumps.
My reason for asking is that this is a local used car and here in S.Devon the state of the local roads is getting so bad that bumpy car ride is affecting my back injury.... Read more
help ive run out of ideas
i have a 2005 corsa 1.2 SXI twinport with 51k.
it wont start , no oil pressure warning light also no side lights front or rear nor headlights, dip or mainbeam.
i have checked all fuses. i have also replaced the complete ecu kit ( engine ecu, body ecu, immobiliser, clocks barrel and key.
when turning the ignition on all warning lights come on , exept oil pressure light ) when you turn the key to start the engine cranks over but no spark or fuel from injectors. fuel pump runs as i can hear it when turning the key.
totally run out of ideas. any help would be appreciated , otherwise i will break the car as ive already spent £££££ hundreds trying to get it running

It almost sounds like the car doesn't know it has an engine fitted After you replaced all these bits did you ensure they were all correctly matched electronically. It sounds like it's still immobised, I can't remember where the bit that pings the chip in the key is but I keep thinking of fuel pump and dashboard. You need to get diagnostics like opcom on it just to know where you stand.
The airbag light on my 406 has been on for a while. Finally got the fault code read and it came up with P 0802 "level of driver permanent module trigger 2 fault. Open circuit."
Any ideas what this might mean & will it be a costly repair?... Read more

Decided to refurb and clean up the calipers on my Mondeo ST (07 plate). Took calipers off, cleaned, painted, renewed all seals, put calipers back on. Repeated on all four corners then bled the system - no brakes. Bled several more times - still no brakes.
Eventually got to a point where there were some breaks but after a point the pedal lost all pressure and fell away. This lead me to suspect there was a problem with the master cylinder. Replaced master cylinder - bled system - no brakes.... Read more

hi , can someone please help me , i have a 52 plate chrysler grand voyager , i charged the battery & when i went to put the battery back on , i accidently put the terminals on the wrong way round which caused a spark , since i've put it on the right way the central locking does not work , the immobiliser does not work , the car will start but when i turn it off the ignition lights stay on until i push the key back into the ignition , then my speedo clock & other clocks flash once & go off , could anybody help me fix the problem Read more
You will have to gat a mobile tech to run diagnostis on the vehicle. At a guess you have cooked one or more of the ECU's and blown the diode pack in the alternator. Regards Peter
I give up. After 30 years of motoring I had settled on a local garage, the owner of whom had received recognition for being a trusted garage.
For the last 5 years or so of waiting for MOT's I had observed the owner behind the counter, totally up front and total honesty, wouldnt charge if he couldnt fix it type thing, clearly proud of his reputation.... Read more

Sounds like you were quoted a ladies only price. I hope you weren't dressed up extra nice, in advance of a special night out....
Hi Guys
Had the front pads and discs replaced yesterday and it was noticed whilst the tyres were off the car that the inner edge of the tyres were thiner than the rest of the tyre. Today i took my car to a autocentre by me who have a Hunter Alignment machine and had the alignment checked. The Toe was considerable out of adjustment but the machine brought up another concern and that is Caster is more than 30 minutes between left and right.... Read more

Is having a number plate stuck on over another an MOT failure?
I just went for the first MOT on my car. It has number plates that aren't MOT-legal (at the time I didn't have the docs to get anything other than 'show' plates with the correct lettering etc - they look fine so don't get on my back over b******ized plates, please) and I took along some legal plates I've just got to stick on top.... Guys, thanks.
I didn't fit the legal plates for the MOT as I'd only be making more work for myself in stickiing on then taking off the plates (I'd have to use plenty of tape to avoid the tester finding the plates 'insecure')....

Many thanks for that advice. Excellent and you could have saved me £300 or more of wasted money.
I think I will just have the shocks replaced if they ever do leak badly enough to stop working or fail MOT. They seem OK at the moment, ie no bounce or rebound rubber-ball effect so far. The car has only done 30k miles since new so I think they should be in fairly usable condition. Replacement standard shocks are about 40 quid each. No need to put new springs in as that might make it even more bumpy....
