Hi,

does anyone knows where to find someone who offers to act on your behalf at British Car Autions to help with car buying for a fee? The only one I know - Joe Dowd - officially retired an he's no longer offering his services. Anyone else? thx Read more

It seems to be for those in the know now, pretty much closed off through their fees, to private buyers.

My S-Max will be three years old on 29 June 2012. It was serviced in May 2010, early April 2011 (due to an extended holiday) and I now need to consider the 2012 service. Servicing regime is 12,500 miles or 12 months. My car has done 31,000 miles.

The Ford garage has persuaded me to hold off on the service until 30 May to get the 13 month MoT ticket, but by then the car will be out of time for the third service. ... Read more

That garage rang on Friday. They have ceased trading, four days before the car was booked in for the service.

Have had to book it into one of these Ford service centres. It is a independent garage with lots of Bosch and Ford branding that claims to be able to service to the same standard as the dealer. Personally I prefer either a dealer or a guy with greasy hands, so I think the S-Max is about to have its last service at a Ford branded outlet. ...

I know it's rather naughty, not to say possibly illegal, but I was caught through basic stupidity in London with no petrol and no money. A 200 mile walk seemed likely. So I went into Morrisson's, filled it up, and in the kiosk I patted myself down going "oh no" etc.

I just signed a form, produced my licence, and agreed to pay within 24 hours - at any Morrisson's petrol station. Not even the mildest admonition. I'm just on my way to pay it now. Don't tell anyone I told you.... Read more

The EU fuel figures are ridiculous. However the U.S. government publishes figures which are much more realistic, and compare well with the honestjohn realmpg website. Look on www.fueleconomy.gov. You need to multiply everything by 1.25 to correct for the difference between U.S. gallons and Imp. Galls. Read more

Most of my car journeys are very local so (touch wood) if I ever needed to make use of breakdown cover, recovery and getting home would never be an issue. However, most longer journeys (holidays, visiting family etc) have an extra 2 passengers, our 2 dogs.

So if we did need to be towed or recovered by our friendly breakdown provider, what about the dogs? Would they be able to travel in the breakdown truck if we had to be towed? If not, then what?

I have scoured the website of one well known breakdown provider and can find no reference to pets, so does anyone have the answer? Read more

Yes, it was a really hot day and I was not prepared to allow my daughters dog to travel unaccompanied in a car being towed at 45 degree angle.

Morning all,

Does anybody have have any experiences, good or bad, with this website, www.buyacar.co.uk? Stumbled over it a few days ago and on the surface of things it looks fairly promising, some reasonable deals on certain cars and what looks to be their own finance facility. Obviously no 'extras' as you might get from a dealer, but some reasonable list price savings by the look of things. Anybody used them? Read more
