What do people think about separate legal cover on your insurance (i.e. not taking out the policy offered by your insurer, but instead going elsewhere). And any recommendations? I remember Autolaw used to be liked round here but it seems from recent threads that perhaps that's no longer the case...
Thanks for any suggestions.... Read more

Hi everyone

I am not convinced that the diagnosis of a relay fault is correct. It would be very unusual for the reverse lights alone to be controlled by a relay as they draw less than 4 amps. The relay depicted is nothing special and if reqd ,should be available for less than £20 new.hth

Hi Gaynor ...... whoooooops! It happens, unfortunately.
It happened to me a few weeks after I joined a dealership; on this occassion the dealer did not ask me to pay for the repairs. ...
Hi,
I purchased a used Focus (58 plate) from a main dealer at the end of October 2011, and recently it's started smelling of smoke, neither me or my partner smoke or anyone we know smokes, and we don't let anyone in the car who smokes, so it must have been the previous owner, and the dealership tried to cover it up with some odour eliminator or something. If I'd smelt it when I went to buy it, I would have instantly rejected the car!
The bumper's paint has started peeling, and I just found out it's had a respray on the bonnet and the front bumper.
Is this good grounds for rejecting the car? You just can't get rid of smoke odour from vehicles, and now it's getting sunny it's terrible.
Thanks
Gavin

We've had a few instances of milk spilt in cars. One was from a leaking bottle in the boot, another from a flask of coffee. With three children, the last of whom was travel sick with a frequency and intensity that had to witnessed to be believed, all of our cars have been subjected to vomit.
When we had an MPV I could remove the seats and wash them (in one spectacular instance I had to literally hose the seats down). I've not tried the vinegar method but I did have success using bicarbonate of soda once the seats/carpet are dry. Spread it onto the affected area and leave in place for as long as possible then hoover. On one occasion I needed to repeat the process over several days but it always worked!...
A friend of mine has agreed to come to the UK for 3 years and will be doing approx 60 miles a day commute on mainly motorways. He has a budget of around £5k for a car and ideally wants something that will last him the duration of the 3 years he is here.
Any thoughts as to what I can help him look at? Make/Model, Petrol/Diesel?... Read more
Enough cars out there. Might be interesting to go for a Jag, nice motorway cruiser, many cheap XJs out there. Though might be best to check thoroughly to avoid huge car maintenance bills.

Just bored and googling a couple of cars seen on autotrader, and this dealer is selling cars at well below their trade value, no doubt when a punter gets there the car is gone or is priced at a lot higher price.

I have been looking for a reliable cheap load lugger around £1000 and heard great things about the V70 (petrol and diesel ), Saab 9-5 and Octavia estates
Anyone have experiences of these estates.... Read more
Have a look when you're driving about and see what's still kicking around. I see a good number of V70s going strong, some really quite old indeed.

Free standing legal cover is way cheaper that the same cover policy/cover offered as a paid for extra by one;s motor insurer. I understand they "buy the policies in bulk for less than £5 and pass them on at £25. Same sort of mark up as washing machine and white goods insurance.
