Hi people, I have recently been offered a new job and its going to involve an 38 mile commute each way, pretty much all motorway. I currently have a Honda Accord Type but unfortunatly this going to have to go as it drinks the fuel :( Im hoping to get between £2000 -£3000 for it so I basically have that to spend on something more economical.
I'm thinking maybe...... Read more
Although I currently run a 2007 Corsa this query is not about my present car. I am researching getting a later car and am doing all the usual reading etc. When I spoke with a salesperson at the Vauxhall main dealer he said that Vauxhall did not provide a spare wheel on any of their cars, not even a spacesaver, only a can of sealant. He said this dated back to 2010. There is no way I am going to buy anything second hand which does not have a full size spare wheel so it looks like it will not be another Vauxhall. Does anyone know which manufacturers do provide a full size spare wheel as standard up to 2009 /2010? Or are they all in this together and does no manufacturer do this? I have looked on the internet but the results are inconclusive. Any listings etc would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks,

The weight of a spare wheel is nothing compared to a full fuel tank.
I've had my Ford Focus for 9 years and there are no signs of rust on the body at all.I believe the body was galvanised. Now i am wanting a new car i would like to know if the current models have this or an equally good process. The brochures and sales reps aren't much help in this regard. Read more
The original car never had any rust treatment the consequences are there to see, galvanising is not the only way to stop corrosion it can be made in many recipes to avoid rust but the result is expensive ie top quality stainless for one.Its exposure to air that causes rust so if you paint it properly with many coats you can also hold the bug back tried by RR but the rust was already in the metal the results were rust buckets but the crown must go to first 1957 victors rusted through in less than 6 months closly followed by the Cresta and Velox.I had a 58 cresta 3 back windows a piece of rope to keep the rear doors closed when it was stood still the inside wing moved under the strain of the steering box ,sequin bench seats good for !!!!!!!!
My wife and I are after a medium sized estate and we have narrowed it down to either an A4 Avant or a Volvo V50. Will prob go for the diesel engines in 2.0 form both around 140 bhp I read. Any views preferences? I have an 02 plate golf 130 bhp golf tdi and it's been fantastic, is the same level of reliablity, performance , economy to be found in the later 2.0 VAG tdi engine? Likewise is the Volvo 2.0 diesel the same as the focus durotec 2.0 unit? Which car is the best all round drive - we are after decent low speed drive and good mid range punch - like the golf.
What are the petrol units like in either? Dont fancy the running costs on a Volvo T5 or audi 2.0 TFSI but the costs of the 2.4 petrol Volvo or 1.8 T A4 seem to be more acceptable........ Read more
Unless you do a high mileage, a petrol would be a better bet. The VAG 1.9 TDI and the newer common-rail 2.0 TDI are fine but the older 2.0 seems to be liable to expensive failure.
If I were you I'd look at the 1.8T petrol engine in an A4 Avant or Octavia estate: I'm not sure if the Passat came with that engine. The Octavia would be the best value of those three for your money....
Hi,
I've seen a number of similar issues posted having checked various newsgroups but thery were all several years ago and none seemed to give a definitive solution (which maybe isn't possible) so I'm posting this in the hope maybe someone sees it now.... Read more
The problem you have described may not be a fault with the easytronic gearbox. You say it lacks power when pulling away. This could be an engine management fault, possibly air mass meter or it could be a slipping or worn clutch.Don't forget this gearbox is an automated manual ,so it still has mechanical internals like a 5 speed gearbox.hth

I've just bought a Z3 which I want to use as a weekend fun car, and was hoping someone on here could give me some tips for cheap insurance. All my ncd is on my main car (Juke), so the quotes I'm getting at the moment are all with no ncd, resulting in figures up to £900 for 5000 miles!
I tried a couple of the multicar ones, but they don't work out any cheaper than the two lowest individual quotes. Z3 is 11 years old, so I thought classic might be an option, but so far all the ones I've found needed the car to be 15 years old. Read more
Classic Line gave a great quote, thanks for the tip. £330 with no ncd is the cheapest i've had so far.
I have a 53 plate Vectra C which has been owned since new and has now covered 50500 miles, last weel the central locking system packed - up. When the remote unit is operated all doors try to lock but then imediately unlock and on the dash it shows drivers door open, this also happens if the key is use in any lock. As a temporary mesure a local garage has disconnected the electrics to the drivers door so that nothing electrical works on that door but I can now lock/unlock all the three other doors with the remote and lock the drivers door using the key. The local garage has suggested the problem is likely to be the door motor drive unit and has also suggested that a Vauxhall dealer will have to repair it and that a new motor unit could cost around £200 plus fitting.
Before I involve expensive dealer repairs to what is now a fairly old car has anyone any thoughts on what may be wriong. If the door tries to lock is this a indication that the motor is ok and something else is wrong... Read more
Probably don't need to take the door cards off. GM door/tail wiring usually goes inside the flexible rubber boot between the door/bootlid and the frame. The wiring in there is unwrapped to provide greater flexibility, which has the downside of making it more vulnerable to damage too. You can undo the multiplug where it connects to the socket in the frame and pull the boot back to inspect, you'll be desperately unlucky if the problem's not obviously in one of 'em.
Once you've found the knackered one, then remove the one necessary door card to fix. You'll need to do this to buy enough length on the cables to fix the crushed/severed/burned ones....
Our Honda CRV is making a very strange noise when driving along on cold mornings. The noise starts after about two minutes of driving – never from pulling away – always after two minutes, and then can be heard for about two minutes – sometimes continually, other times not – and then disappears until the car has been left standing for a good while either during the day or over night.
It only does it on cold mornings and Honda cannot figure it out from this video, although my local dealer have checked that everything is OK with the car – although clrearly soemthing is wrong! Of course by the time you get to a Honda garage the noise has gone.... Read more
My 56-reg (new to 2007 style) CR-V EX 2.0 with about 64,000 miles started consistently making the rear end noise when the weather got cold about a month ago. As someone else described, the noise is normally not there when the vehicle is used for the first time of the day, but after stopping somewhere for a while and restarting, the noise will be present for the first couple miles then go away for the remainder of the journey. The diff fluid was changed during the annual service last week, but the noise started again a day later. It is colder than usual here in London today (about 4-5 C) and the noise was present from the first drive of the day. I am going to call the dealer on Monday morning to find out what they have to say.
Hello all and I hope you can help me!
I am looking at getting 4 new tyres for my car (2007/57 VW Golf 2.0 GT Sport TDI (140Bhp)). Currently have Bridgestone RE050 on the rear and Barum Bravuris 2 on the front - all on the car when I bought it. All are: 225x45x17 - 91W.... Read more
