I have a strange problem on a Ford Focus which hopefully someone can shed some light on for me.
A few weeks ago when we had the cold spell before xmas the battery failed. Luckily I had a spare which matched the requirements so I fitted it.
THe spare was smaller than the original but seemed to do the job in the interim.
However I noticed when reaching certain revs the blower could be heard (Seems to be near to the windscreen vents) . It only seems to kick in around 2000 revs, even then it depends on torque. Its almost as if it happens when the turbo kicks in.
Presuming it was related to battery I topped up the original battery and charged and put it back I thought it may be realted to the required ampage etc.But Still the same.
Its now driving me mad - motorway driving is a nightmare!
Any ideas? Read more
how do you read the numbers on the fuse box .reversing lights not working bulbs ok cheers thales Read more
This made me smile - I have a Skoda Superb.
I like to know what the fuse assignations are before I have an electrical problem and I found the neat little card clipped to the fuse box cover on the end of the dashboard to be utterly incomprehensible....
Sometimes I rent in Germany, especially basic Opel Corsas. The tyre pressures are usually set to 2.6 (front), and 3.2 (rear).
I'm sure that this is for a fully laden vehicle when I'm just on my own with little luggage. Therefore I should change the pressures to 2.0 (front) and 1.8 (rear) according to the manual.... Read more
The recommended pressures are purely that, recommended.
By someone who doesn't know you, how you drive, what you like, how good or bad you are....
I've had a fusion 1.4 tdci for 2 years and have a desire to replace it with something a little bigger (5 large'ish adults plus lugage), better, more reliable and without costing a fortune (tax, insurance etc), budget £5k.
I am not a big fan of Fords (I consider them unreliable, solely because everyone I've had has cost me a lot of money, in comparison to any other make) and having owned several Japanese cars (no problems and more reliable than my best Ford), I have shortlisted the following; Mazda 3 1.6ts diesel, Honda Civic 1.6 petrol & 1.7 cdti (which wife has), Honda Jazz, and the Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 hdi exclusive, strangely the Citroen and in pariticular the 2.0 hdi has some excellent user reviews, I did like the look of the cmax (pity Honda don't do something similar), but it's a ford & the write up on this web site ain't great. I absolutely love the C3 Picasso but it's way over budget.... Read more
Of the cars I have mentioned the Picasso has by far the biggest boot, the Boxy civic (the best one IMHO), is on a par with the Jazz, the Mazda 3 has the smallest boot.
That said literage is one thing but actual use-ability is another, the Civic's boot is bigger than my fusion, but the wheel wells hamper loading, a fusion does'nt have a boot lip or said wheel wells, so load wise it ain't as clear cut as people might think....
hi dose anyone have an idear what i acn do, I have just done the head gasket on my renault espace but now it will not start i have compression, fuel and spark but i still have nothing HELP Read more
My volvo v70 heated seat has just burnt a hole through the drivers seat. (back) I thought it had got hot a couple of times and had turned it off but did not know there was a problem until my husband pointed out the hole and I then found that two jackets were damaged. One has a melted patch and hole and the other a burn mark.
We reported it to Volvo locally. Two sales people said they had never heard of this before so not to drive it but return it to them to diagnose the problem. We contacted the AA who came and also said they had not heard of it before and how serious it could have been not only to the car but to me had my clothes caught fire.... Read more
Electrics on cars (and other things) sometimes pack up. They just do. A heated seat is basically a toaster so it is a wonder more don't give problems.
I have seen one faulty one on a V70 before but to be fair to Volvo bearing in mind 95% of their cars made in the last 40 years have heated seats it isn't common....
I suppose its inevitable, but do you think they are going to ramp up easy targets just for revenue? Why dont more cars have speed limiters? - I thought the one in Citroen C4 Grand Picasso I test drove was a good idea. Even better if it was automatically controlled, say by GPS.
All fines that are not FPN are calculated according to income.
I think the term used is 'ability to pay' because after all theres no point in giving someone a £5,000 fine if they dont have any money, they'd never pay it. However most fines for driving offences still have an upper limit. For instance i believe its £5,000 maximum for drink driving....
Apparently, one in five is through tiredness
One in five is alcohol related.... Read more
So if you were drunk, high and tired - probability states you're likely to die
Sounds about right!
Hi,
Recently, I've noticed the needles on ALL the gauges on the car's dashboard go to the 'extremities' [i.e. 180mph or whatever] before quickly settling back down to the normal positions [i.e. half-full on the fuel gauge, 0mph etc] whenever I start the car.... Read more
Thanks for your help, fellas.
can not believe Audi's attitude towrads this problem - a complete re design of the pump and balancer shaft which means you need a new sump too but they are not holding their hands up to take ownership - perhaps they will if enough noise is made !
To make matters worse, the key part is on back order with no deleivery date ! There is one on back order from early October - My wife broke down early in January, I have had a few discussions with Audi but can only gain a loan car whislt we wait if they carry out the repair at £700-800 more ! It's c£1500 just for the parts on this job, outside of the c10 hours labour - the car has full service history and just over 40,000 miles - hardly over worked !... Read more
I do hope so; his experrise is invaluable. He last posted in June so I trust he hasn't gone far away.
I think 659 FBE was the number of his first car - a good old Lincolnshire registration.

That sounds more like it. If its on the inlet side of the turbo the only real danger is of anything getting sucked into the blades but providing you don't go cross country rallying in it I expect it will be OK.
