I am having problems with the operation of a stiff clutch. The vehicle has been back to the dealership and I was informed that the clutch could be adjusted - I was then informed that the clutch cable had streched and had been tightened. After a day or so it has gone back to a stiff operation this is particularly noticeable when trying to crawl in heavy traffic. The vehicle is booked in again next week but I would like to hear from anyone who has similar problems in case I am fobbed off by the dealership. They say if necessary they will change the cable. I do not know if this resolve the issue?Thank you Read more
Can anyone let me know the location of the fuel filter for a 1999 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
The symptoms are that the car is sometimes delaying on power on pulling away from stop or accelerating. It may not be the fuel filter but it is a starting point unless anyone has other advice which would be most welcome. Transmission fluid seem well topped up.... Read more

I have a focus 1.8TDCI 2003 and I am having problems with start up and loss of power. What happens is the car starts fine from cold and runs perfectly normal, goes for a good long run and the engine gets up to temp. Then if I where to stop at a shop say and come back to the car and restart it, it would fire up but only just and ticking over very low. If I where to press the accelerator pedal I would get no revs on the car the engine is just ticking over very low. If I take the clutch to the biting point and just manage to rock the car back and forth the revs will increase and the accelerator pedal will put revs on again but this can take upto 10 mins then when I then set off the car is ploughing white smoke out for a while and doesn’t seem to have anywhere near as much power as it should.
Leave the car over night start it the next day from cold and it’s fine.
It has just been serviced by myself new oil, air filter, fuel filter cam sensor with upgraded wiring and new crank sensor. The crank sensor was fitted by just taking out the old one and replacing with the new. Should I have set top dead centre?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My car has done 90,000 miles, turbo replaced at 53,000. Quite noisy now, what parts do you recommend replacing if i wish to keep it. i now only do short journeys as i have retired but still tow a caravan now and then. Read more
Not sure what you mean by what parts should i change?
If service has been to book, its normal to wait for things to fail, old cars and noise usually go hand in hand....
This seemed to start immediately after I had a flat and I put on the spare wheel. I took it to the local National Tyre place and they put on a new tire, fitted, checked, etc. Now there's a horrible worrying whine/hum whenever I slow down in gear - it does not happen when accelerating and goes away if I have the clutch down. The guys at the garage checked all the wheels, bearings, etc and they're convinced it's nothing suspect in or around the wheels - they suggested it may be the gearbox - you can feel a new vibration in the gear stick when you slow down.
Anyone got any similar stories or ideas? If it is a gearbox thing - any way to tell how much I might be in for? It's a 53-reg 1.6 petrol with 76k miles, so won't fetch too much and if big things like this start to go, it might be time to say goodbye.... Read more
my car wont start unless you prime the lift pump goes ok when you turn it off you have to prime it again cam, glow plugs, ok selonoid ok can any body help Read more
Don't know your particular car but this problem is usually caused by an air leak in the fuel system allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank when parked. I would suggest that you park it facing down a steep hill and then look for a fuel leak. Could be round the fuel filter or even the injector leak off pipes. If you fit a section of clear tubing between the filter and pump you can watch for air bubbles. Could even be the primer itself.
Driving my daughter into Leeds this morning on the main dual carriageway through armley.
The time was just after 9am and we were travelling in a two plus lane on the nearside of the road.Because of the time the road was busy with mums on their way home and late for work commuters .
We were travelling at about 20 mph when a black seat Leon pulled in front of us from the offside lane missing the front of our car by inches .the lunatic driving it undertook a car in the offside lane and then repeated the manoeuvre further down the road ,as we followed him further down the road he was swerving the car from Side to side ,in a manoeuvre similar to the one used by formula 1 drivers to generate heat in tyres .
Further down the road we pulled alongside him ,I wound down my window ,as did he and we had a frank exchange of views ,mainly concerning my view of his mental health .
He then did a u turn into the opposite carrieageway ,forcing an ambulance that was on an emergency call to slow down to avoid a collision.
While all this was happening ,my daughter rang the police with the drivers registration number ,they said they would visit the home of the registered keeper ,if they couldn't find him in the area.
So the question is ,will the driver get away with just a warning ,is it worthwhile getting involved ,given that drivers have been assaulted in similar circumstances. How often is this kind of driving happening

I think you should always report these incidents. I don’t mind if they only get a talking to from the police – that’s better than nothing and it’s a lot better then me trying to do it.
I can’t see any harm, though, in letting them see that you’re getting a good look at who they are. It’s good for these people to feel a bit of parnoia.
A highly creative "report" by that bastion of the insurance industry, Swiftcover, surveyed 1600 motorists and came to this staggering conclusion. Who do they blame? Young drivers of course.
I have yet to encounter any modern car with fog lights that dazzle me, day or night. However many DRLs - in particular the led types fitted to the latest high end Mercedes I find painfully bright and dazzling and some DRLs seem to stay on even when the headlights are turned on. Hardly the kind of car that an 18 year old drives.... Read more
Easy one. A combination of simple mathematics and politics at work.
2 headlights = 110w. 2 sidelights = 10w. 2 tail lamps = 10w. 2 number plate lamps = 10w. Total = 140w....
I would like to buy an ix35 but I hate the shiny silver trim on the dash and steering wheel. It looks like it belongs on a 1970s Hong Kong radio. Is there a kit to replace the trim with something more subtle or can it be wrapped or painted? Read more
I ran one of these for a year and thought the trim was quite nice. It lifts what would be a fairly dark and dull interior. I assume you're looking at the premium model?
Why not try the Kia Sportage? It's basically the same car underneath, but looks much better to my eyes at least.
I've just had a quick peek at Motorpoint's site and very surprised at stock levels - much, much lower than I've ever seen. Am I accessing the wrong information or are they that low in reality?

Went to Fords of Winsford a few weeks ago and there was barely room for the customers cars! Still nothing appealed at the prices though.
