I've noticed there are lots of Peugeot 3008s about. yet to my eyes it's one of the most dumpy/ugly vehicles on sale. It only seems to have one aesthetic saving grace................the dashboard, which I think looks quite stylish.
Ugliest convertible award goes to the Peugeot 308cc or Renault Megane cc. Forunately VW has seen the error of its ways by re-introducing a proper convertible to the MK6 Golf range.... Read more
I've been driving one of these ugly cars today!!!!
I have a previous shape Legacy diesel that I think looks great. It went in for a service today and they gave me a new shape Legacy for the day.
UGLY, UGLY, UGLY.
And IMHO not a mechanical improvement on the older car either. It may be bigger externally but it's actually not that much bigger inside where it counts. More rear legroom but that's about it.
recently car went into limp mode. took it to lexus derby was told lexus recognise fault and vehicle will need to be off the road for about ten days. lexus say they have extended the warranty to five years on this particular ( or should that be particulate ) fault. i would like some information on what they have done to the engine. obviously no complaints of service. car. 08. 43000 miles. thanks clingy. have same problem on car with similiar amount of miles and brought in to nearby dealer and told me it is a wear and tear issue and as such it was not covered under my warranty. They have quoted me a figure of €1000 to get this cleaned. Ridiculoulsy if the part needed to be replaced as opposed to cleaned they said it would be covered. Any advice here would be appreciated
I am about to pursue some bathroom fitters through the small claims court, to get back a large amount of money after they bodged the refit. For example, they used cement based adhesive on bare gypsum plaster walls, which is a no no, because the two undergo a chemical reaction leading to tiles falling off. I am confident of a positive outcome, as I have letters from them in which they make statements which conflict with themselves, and with 3 independent surveys I commissioned. Anyway, I am preparing the case, and I would appreciate help with how best to present the information:
- I have written a 4 page summary with dates, and brief details, including references to letters and independent surveys, an adhesive datasheet, an adhesive packet, A4 photographs, and online information.
- How is it best to label the associated documents? Is it okay to for example write in red pen "Document 4" on the first page?
- Is it okay to write in indelible ink "Photograph 3" on the back of the third photo?
- I have some ceramic tiles that I kep as evidence as they show very poor wall contact e.g. 20%. Should I photograph these and attach photos, or simply mention them, and then carry them into court?
- I have an adhesive packet with relevant information on it e.g. "Contains cement". Should I photograph the relevant information, or just mention it and carry the packet into court?
Other helpful comments are welcome. Many thanks. Incidentally, I am impressed with how helpful Topps Tiles have been. I'm not trying to advertise for them, but they have been very helpful in providing datasheets, and other information. Obviously they are one of the 'good guys'.... Read more
Why should a successful claimant have topay bailff's fees for having property removed from the home of someone who has lost a judgement and can't/won't pay. He is the instigator of his own problems and he should have to pay.
I did have bailffs go in, ordered by a court, to give my non-payer 7 days notice of what they were going to come back and remove 7 days later. That certainly didn't cost me anything and proved a spur to settlement as well!....
Our 2008 Fiat 500 electric sunroof has broken. One side closes fine, however the other side will not shut fully. The motor feeds to either side of the roof at the back of the roof mechanism; from there it pulls and pushes the roof open and closed. On one side it’s fine, however on the broken side part of the plastic has come adrift – this results in it not pulling the roof closed.
Just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem – it’s out of warranty now and Fiat claim it’s not a known problem?... Read more

I always keep an eye on the car market and have recently notice an increasing trend to put small engines 1.4 (petrol) in larger cars..
I would assume this is to keep emissions low / mpg up.... Read more
The only reason you need the torque number is to get an idea of the power at a certain RPM.
Hi, Can anyone please put my mind at rest.
I have a very nice Kia Picanto, only18 months old. As we have been away a lot recently, and not using the car. With all this wet and damp weather I found that the handbrake was starting to 'seize up' on the driveway.... Read more
Hi Kia owner -- A practice that I have used ever since I started driving, motorbikes and cars (43 years) is to disengage the clutch, this disengages the gearbox and releaves some of the stress on the starter motor and battery. On modern motorcycles you cannot start the bike until you have pulled in the clutch leaver. This practice has now become second nature to me. In a car you put one foot on the clutch and the other on the brake pedal, No problems

What I've found on a 02 Corsa AND a 01 Astra is; quite often when a bulb goes out it's just a bit of corrosion on the connections....
I have a 2002 Skoda Fabia, 1.9 TDi. Car was fine for a few weeks (I bought it used) when suddenly the dashboard lights started to flicker, power steering died, and I had to limp home. First recharged battery, as engine would not start again, but that was a very short-lived fix. Replaced battery, and also had the regulator replaced on the alternator.
Car ran fine for about 500 more miles, and the same symptoms. Battery is dead, so now on recharge, as I type this question..
I have bought a new alternator now, but am wondering if that is the issue; I certainly don't want to use it if that is not the problem. I have heard it could be the ECU, but I am unsure how to check that. And do I have to go to a Skoda dealer to have the ECU checked, or...?

I wouldn't go quite as far as that, ORB (excellent advice from 659 as always). But the reputation of some basically very good cars in the VAG range is sullied by the big glass-palace VW and Audi dealers who seem to think they can still make money by ignoring their customers' wishes. Skoda have the advantage of a higher proportion of small family-owned dealers.
The one who supplied my Octavias, Jewsons of Oxford, would certainly sort out Debb's problem - but better still, as 659 says, to go to an independent auto electrician. A 9-year-old car is best taken to an independent garage anyway.

Be interested to hear if you find any faulty glow plugs.
In addition it should be noted the glow plugs light on a Focus mk1 doubles up as an ECU malfunction warning light. If/when the light flashes something is wonky in the engine management system which can result in some power loss. The Focus mk1 doesn't have full fault code data logging so if a fault is generated it isn't available for later interrogation. If a diagnostic tester or data recorder were fitted when the problem occurred there is a good chance an error code could be captured.
There may an issue with a faulty Throttle Position Sensor which is sending faulty and irregular signals to the ECU when is a certain position. The solution is to replace the Accelerator Pedal & Sensor Assy £69+VAT and/or Throttle Position Sensor £46+VAT. Check with a diesel specialist and see what they reckon, if they confirm they will be able to do the work for you, simple job so labour time is fairly low.
