Interesting to note alot of people cite the MG6's sales failure as being down to a lack of a diesel model. Yet many, no forums mentioned, recommend people don't buy a diesel because of all the likely, modern diesel, related problems. Read more
My wife's Citroen C2 suddenly won't lock via the remote fobs. Batteries checked in both and fine. Tried doing the re-set which we found on the web no joy, fuse OK. Anything else you can suggest before yet another mortgage to take it to Citroen? Any ideas most welcome.

Try a BSI reset, check the fob battery and re-sync accoring to the drivers handbook.

A short time ago I noticed the sound of water sloshing around in the sills on the passenger side when braking or cornering.
My local agent identified this, cleared the water and told me not to power wash the car, but normal washing would be OK He charged £88 for this work. ... Read more

Hi all,
some serious advice needed here on a cat replacement from kwik fit. Purchased 2years & 2 months ago, 14,000miles, and costing £530 fitted needs replacing again.... Read more
now tell me if i'm wrong but shouldn't a cat last around 50K or 5years +??
Unless stated as such by the retailer of the cat, what you, I or anyone else thinks is irrelevent. Only the courts can decide how durable a peice of merchandise should be....
I have a problem when selecting reverse gear on my Golf.
On selecting reverse with the engine switched on, sometimes there is a slight crunching noise. The crunching noise is not there with the engine turned off and this problem does not occur in any other gear. However the gear selection is sometimes not that smooth, "lumpy" would be a good description. The car has covered 120k miles, but is regularly serviced. It is a 1996 1.6 MK3 , engine code AEE and the gearbox is a 02k. I have spoken to a colleague at work and he thinks it may be the gearbox linkage cables ?... Read more
I'm going to have a good look at the adjustment of the cables between the gear lever and the gearbox this weekend. The only other non expensive option that I can think of is the clutch cable adjustment.
Any other suggestions anybody ?...
Well I've been mooting the idea of getting a new car, probably looking to replace by September/October time or so (like to plan in advance) although I'm not quite sure yet, as it is not neccessary but would be more convenient I would say in terms of car sharing/deadlines etc.
I have shortlisted the Kia Rio mostly because of the low running costs in terms of initial expense and high mpg for the 1.1 diesel ecodynamics.... Read more
Well I guess one good thing about needing a new car in the long term is to see what new developments there are and competition.
After some consideration, and upon discovery of the Hyundai i20 facelift including the introduction of the same Kia 1.1ltr CRDi 88mpg engines into these cars and hopefully at a lower price than the Rio is a worthy contender!

How many miles per litre does it use. I would have the crankcase breather sytem checked and cleaned. The crankcase may be pressurising and forcing oil past the rings and valves. Regards Peter
Hi,
Recently my Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 hdi 90 hp, gave a fault indication. Indicating a problem with the exhaust gas. The orange indicator was lit on the dashboard. I noticed that the fuel consumption had increased. I could do approx. 150-180 kilometers less with 1 tank of gasoline. Also the actual fuel consumption on the dashboard was presenting different values. It also takes a while before the boardcomputer calculates an actual fuel consumption especially driving slower than 40 km/h. Below 40 km/h no value is calculated. ... Read more
Thank you for your reply. My car was manufatcured by then end of 2004, so no particle filter is present.

When driving my 2007 Touran and you reach 75mph the throttle goes non responsive and the car slows to 50mph, which i understand as limp mode. Once you have stopped the car and turned the ignition off and on again you can then drive the car normally again untill you hit around 75mph ???
When it goes into limp mode there is NO warning on thedash board with a code or anything.....confused... Read more
Sounds like a turbo overboost condition often caused by the variable vane ring in the turbo being stuck. Your turbo, a VNT type does not have a conventional wastegate. Instead the turbo boost is controlled at source by the ECU which alters the angle of the vanes to provide more or less boost to suit all engine requirements. If the vane ring becomes stuck due to the build up of carbon deposits and rust, and will not move then the turbo boost pressure can become too high. The ECU will detect this via the turbo boost pressure sensor and will take action by reducing the engine power before serious damage results. In this condition the fault code 17965 is often generated.
The cure is not necessarily a new turbo, although I expect the dealer will tell you it is. What it needs is to be removed and thoroughly cleaned. There is a product on the market which I have used with success. For less than £50 it's worth a try, but make sure you use it exactly as per the instructions....

The Chinese are only now entering the UK / European market in any sort of meaningful way
They have to start somewhere & in order to build a dealer network they need a car to sell ..... they have....
