Pensioner led police on 27 mile chase at 10mph

Back in the time when the A64/A1 junction near Bramham was a crossroads, I was a passenger in a car driven by an elderly lady, she failed to stop at the "Major Road Ahead" sign and would have been T-boned by a truck if the driver had not had fast reactions and good brakes: my offer to take over for the rest of the journey was, thankfully, accepted.
First off i'd just like to explain what my gripe is with Brake. Where as i of course support the aims of improving road safety and cutting casualties i dont feel Brake contribute anything to this. Im sure it was started with the best of intentions and aims. The charity was founded in 1992 after Sue Williams (the founders mother) died from being hit in a stationary car by a tanker with defective brakes, the charity was formed to help victims of road crashes and to bring attention to safety issues. Thats fine.
However, they've now turned into another politically correct anti-car movement which spouts endless drivel, dreamed up by people unqualified to have an opinion on such matters and resort to some downright crass antics to get their point across. They believe the only way to drive safely is to drive as slowly as possible, they are totally obsessed with speed. To give you an example a couple of years ago a woman by the name of Mrs Cole was banned from driving for 7 days because she was on the M32 in Bristol doing no more than 10mph and wandering unpredictably between lanes. Now everyone here would agree that is life threateningly dangerous, but no says Brake. This is what Brake's spokeswoman Lorna Jackson had to say on the matter...... Read more
Hi Chris, the problem i have with this subject specifically is im highlighting how the organisation uses selective statistics (and some of it made up) so i dont want to appear to be selective myself by only highlighting some points in bullet points as it were. Unfortunately by being thorough (unlike Brake) it then ends up too long for people to bother with, but when you're debunking many years of nonsense its hard to condense it into a 200 word piece.
I might revise it in a 'Brake Say..' and then under it 'Jamie says' to debunk their very entertaining myths which might be easier to read.

Not particularly, got some reasonable insulation if i may say so myself! Also the gearbox was lumpy, engine has no power low down, the mirrors are useless, the stereo was tinny and the suspension was set up by a man who used a brick for inspiration.
Call me biased if you want because if given the choice between the best Vauxhall and the worst Ford i would still jump the latter, but i really couldnt get on with those Astra's.
If the engine management light appears on the dash board panel (bottom right ) the code for it should be P0420......this is the lambda sensor wire......disconnect plug, clean both ends, reset engine management light, re-connect plugs.
This should remove the problem but if it returns have the wiring tested before buying a new Lambda sensor. Read more

Can you arrive in the UK at Folkestone in a UK car, without tax or up to date MOT and get away with driving to a pre-booked MOT in Leeds? Without of course being fined and this ruining my Christmas when I plan to return to the UK in three months?!
I didnt deliberately go overseas to avoid paying tax, etc. it was just that i left in july and my MOT was in September and so i missed it and thus couldnt get any road tax.... Read more
I agree the best solution is an MoT near the port of entry.
As dvd points out, the regulations are open to interpretation....
Car failed on high CO (.45) on idle and high revs.
Car runs fine apart from when warm and on idle it "missis a beat" every so often (5-15 seconds). Ticks over about 850rpm then suddenly just drops to about 750rpm and straight back up again.... Read more
