hi there guy's and girl's
bought a car private, turbo blew within 2 hour's on motorway nearly causing bad accident, was told by guy who sold it to bring it back and he would return money, got car back costing £90 and he kept £100 to get turbo taken out and new one fitted.so i was down £190 through no fault of my own .a mechanic who lived beside him tried the car and the car started,by the way he told me he got the turbo fitted in feb i think and it had a warrenty,he hadn't told me this when i bought the car.bottom line is he has texted over two week's later saying the engine is done and is threatening small claims court.... never got it,he had another type form but he give the small piece you send away i think, but he took it back when i got the money.funny looking back i always think you should go with a gut instinct and when i went to try the radio he said that the battery was disconnected for something trival and maybe i trusted him to much after initionaly going to walk away over the radio being disconnected.but sure you live and learn.no more contact so to be honest i think it is a bluff as he know's he was initionaly in the wrong not telling me the turbo was changed and giving me the warrenty to back it up,just looking back can see some dodgy stuff but it's easy in retrospect
Just got back from a ride in a colleague's new VW Tiguan. As it clattered and droned agriculturally down the road I commented that there was still some way to go for VW to get diesels to the smoothness of their petrol counterparts.
He was rather upset, as it is a TSi Bluemotion........ Read more

This is something that can mean different things to people depending on your own situation,it could be at three years old or longer,or maybe when the warranty expires,or when it gets it first big bill or ding, for me i tend to move them on when i get to 100k on the clock which is silly considering i drive a diesel but its a subconscious thing,I could keep my car for another ten years but if we all did that what would happen? Ok four feet may be a bit extreme but put it this way, all that snow we had a couple of years ago, my first 406 took me through that to work every day without getting stuck once, just put it in drive and let it do the work. I think the key is small wheels, even with the alloys they're quite small and chunky tyred on the 406 with decent ground clearance. I was seeing Mercedes and BMW's with their RWD and massive alloys/low profile tyres getting stuck on the hill and rolling back down as i just toodled past in my Peugeot.
I think when a car gets to 5 years old, your average family box like a Ford or Vauxhall could financially be described as 'old' as its lost a large chunk of its value and its not worth paying for any massively expensive repair anymore, but some cars just dont look old.
I dont want a lecture on how stupid i've been, or anything like that - I've done that already to myself.
In a nutshell, I paid all the money I had to a builder bloke back in the summer, to do all the outside of my house up. Some of the cash i got a receipt for, some I didn't, because I was fooled by him saying desperately needed the money right now etc etc etc, and pretending to be a mate.... Read more
I suspect you do not have a leg to stand on. But, you could use the threat of reporting him to HMRC as a stick to prod him into acting in your favour. However, it is quite possible that he did not keep a record of the money you gave him and hence he genuinely thinks you are diddling him. If so, then you are stuck. You could try remembering as much as possible about the transactions, where they occurred, what you both said, and remind him. As regards giving you a lecture, yeah, I did something stupid recently. I bought a bath without first checking up on the shop. I might lose £400 as the owner is a crook.
I found several builders behaving as if I was their best mate. In one case the work was so bad I am taking legal action. In the other case I ignore the best mate business. Good honest builders do not play the best mate game, and if they do, then worry. I know that is no use to you now, but it really gets on my nerves when they try and best mate you as a means to doing sub standard work, or conning you out of money.
I am trying to help a friend out and need some information for the above. Does any one have a diagram on how to route the cables through the motor and runners.
Any help would be very much appreciated Read more
Hi guys,
I am just trying to get some advice on which type of used car to get. I will do my best to describe my situation and what i'm after in a car. I already have some specific criteria that I want met, which i'll also list.
My situation/needs:
- Driving all around the UK/EU - so want something very reliable (am willing to spend a little more for reliability and quality)
- willing to spend anywhere from £2000 up to £3500 (maybe £3750 at the very most)
- possibly would want 4wd if I could get/find it for the price range im willing to spend in
- as i'll be driving around quite a lot, fuel economy would be ideally quite good, but if there are reasons for a car being perfect for my other criteria, although not having the greatest economy, im still keen to hear about it
Criteria I have already decided is a must:
- under 80K Miles if petrol OR under 110K miles if diesel
(i could be wrong about these figures, but just assuming that anything much more than this for these engine types, and you're going to start having more parts breaking down etc...)
- Manual transmission
- estate body
- don't really like Japanese, but if I am totally wrong in terms of what im looking for, I guess I could be convinced

Bobbin, I am curious to know how particles from a DPF get into a starter motor. Are you sure this comment didn't apply to DMF's ?

The gauges are not that accurate-if it's somewhere near the middle it's OK!
